It was announced on NRL 360 last night that Sam has a serious infection in his shoulder which could spread. It is dangerous. He is on a drip and taking antibiotics to his veins near the heart. No guarantee when he will return.

George Burgess is suspended till the playoffs.

Thomas Burgess is injured.

Looks like Souths are finished for 2019.

Main thing Sam brings to the table is influence over the refs. Surely he could be a waterboy/trainer and have the same impact.

He has staph. He will likely lose 3-5 kgs over the next week or so. Back in a month

He's been dealing with it for a couple of weeks already and he's already dropped about 5kgs. The tele are late to the party on the story.

He will be ready to go next week or the week after at the latest.

Regardless... We've pretty much made the finals anyway. A good freshen up could be exactly what he needs coming into the back end of the year.

What the club does not need is to fall out of the top four. You cannot win the Grand Final if you are not in the top four. Without the three Burgess brothers Souths will fall out of the top four and therefore are done for 2019.

South Sydney scraped home to win in the last 10 minutes against the lowly North Queensland Cowboys. Therefore they cannot be expected to beat the two classiest teams: Sydney Roosters and Melbourne Storm. Hence South Sydney's challenge for the Premiership is over.

The lowly team that thrashed Roosters last week?

Start talking when you’re above us on the ladder

The Cowboys hardly "thrashed" the Roosters by winning 15-12. The Roosters were under strength anyway. This week the Roosters were only missing three stars (Isaac Liu, Joseph Manu, and after 6 minutes Jake Friend) and they managed to thrash Newcastle Knights 48-10. South Sydney could not have beaten the Roosters yesterday, even with the Burgess brothers playing.

In any case in upcoming matches Souths will lose against the Storm (at home), and possibly Cronulla, Brisbane and the Warrirors (all away games), before the Roosters thump Souths in Round 25 to confirm the Roosters 2nd place.
