No thanks, but we have a really experienced hooker and a former fullback that you can have, you will almost then have a complete set with Hunt, Norman, Pearson Tariq and Korbin Sims and Maranta.
Only if they can all be put together and become something like Voltron, Devastator.or Power Rangers.

You can have Maranta and Pearson back the rest we’ll keep. The Sims’ are south coast (Gerringong) boys and we got Tariq from The Knights not you guys.

Phil Gould rages at 'awful' refereeing decision on botched Dragons line drop-out

Gus rages after line drop-out
Legendary coach and Nine commentator Phil Gould has slammed the referees after a questionable missed call from a bungled St George Illawarra line drop-out in their two-point loss to the Rabbitohs.

Gould was left incensed after referees allowed Ben Hunt’s woefully executed short line drop-out kick to stand despite the fact that Paul Vaughan was ahead of the play in an offside position.

According to Gould play should have been stopped and the Dragons should have re-taken the drop-out in the same way that play is often stopped if a quick tap is attempted off a penalty while teammates are in an offside position.

In bizarre scenes, Vaughan actually hurdled the ball as he attempted to race back behind the goalline as Hunt was taking the kick, which squirted off the inside of the halfback’s foot and rolled towards the sideline without ever threatening to travel beyond the 10m line, as is required.

Paul Vaughan had to jump out of the way after Ben Hunt attempted to make a quick restart (Nine)
But rather than pull the play back and give the Dragons another opportunity to take the drop-out, the referees awarded a penalty to the Rabbitohs, suggesting that they were happy to let play go on until the ball failed go the required distance.

It was a sequence of events that confused viewers and angered Gould who described the officiating as “awful” as the Rabbitohs capitalised with a Dane Gagai try from the ensuing set of six.

“The refereeing is awful honestly. You can't be saying one thing and doing another. That's just terrible,” Gould said on Nine’s NRL coverage.

“They stopped 20-metre taps, they stopped quick taps from penalties because you've got a teammate in front of the tackle.

It was a night to forget for Vaughan and the Dragons despite a late fightback (AAP)
“When (Hunt) takes it, Paul Vaughan is five-metres in front of the line drop-out. He actually has to hurdle the ball to get back (onside).

“Why hasn't the referee pulled that back? He's had to hurdle the ball he was that far in front of (Hunt).

“If St George (Illawarra) had got that ball back (had the ball travelled beyond the 10m line), you don't think they'd have gone back and made him kick the line drop-out again? They didn't apply anything.

“They’ve been stopping taps all year with one person an inch in front of the play.”

The play left all of the commentary team dumbfounded, including Parramatta Eels legend Peter Sterling who bluntly described it “as bizarre as it gets”.

Gould also took aim at Hunt for choosing to kick when he did.

“Why Ben Hunt kicked it with Paul Vaughan in front of him, I will never know,” he said.

“It was the worst kick I've seen so far this season and the referees just looked at it and came up with a pineapple.”

Not disputing that they were Gerringong boys or that you got Tariq from Newcastle (via Cowboys), but both Korbin and Tariq came through our U20's system (followed Ashton here).

In any event, just a bit of banter. Hope you guys get some relief from your coaching woes over the off-season.

Thanks for the background information lynx000 and also thank good lord that we Dragon supporters are not alone with our thoughts on the maestro’s ability.

With the line dropout. Should we have gotten another chance at it as Vaughn was infront of the kicker?

No. The people involved can wallow in their stupidity.

Hunt and Vaughan deserve every bit of mockery coming their way. One of the most ridiculous things I’ve ever seen on a footy field.

I thought the Dragons played well and deserved to win. Saab reminded me of Ricky Walford Mark II and Lomax played well. I think that I would retain this team apart from dropping Duffy and replacing him with Ravalawa. Canterbury Cup team is hopeless. I like the look of Jason Gillard who as only played three CC games and should replace Maranta or Masters who are both useless. What is Tom Carr up to now? He played well with the Bulldogs CC last year. They should flick Allgood and Latimore now.

Dragons talk Gareth Widdop's sideline conversion
Gareth Widdop breaks down his clutch sideline conversion on Friday night while Blake Lawrie and Tariq Sims explain how much work the English international put into his goal-kicking at training.

All Dragons can talk about how widdop made those clutch plays. He did but you usually talk like that after a win..not a loss . Sorry i forgot. like the semi against Souths last year..they were good enough for wins to Mary

Widdop's goal kicking kept us in the game. He was on song in this regard.
Would have been a nice story for Gaz'z return, but futile in the end.

Bottom line, they scored 4 tries to 2, and were the better side for 70 plus minutes.
