Australia are putting there faith in a bald man(Nathan Lyon) on this last day pitch, FFS somebody glue a wig onto his scalp before the start of play before it's too late

Smith just being Smith, so no surprises there.

Wade and Head have been very good. Both have tightened up their techniques, although could have been a different story if Anderson was fit.

This game reminds me of Cardiff 2009. Had them on the ropes but couldn’t bowl them out on the last day. That last 90 - 60 mins was brutal as an Australian fan.

Ashes 2019: England ball change requests during first Test slammed by Nasser Hussain, Michael Atherton
THE ASHES

England’s cricketers have been criticised by their past greats for repeated complaints about the condition of the ball during Australia’s second innings of the first Ashes Test.

With Steve Smith and Travis Head building Australia’s lead at Edgbaston early on day four, England captain Joe Root looked for other ways to stem the flow of runs.

His attention turned to the ball, which - to the surprise of many - has offered little to no movement for pace bowlers during the first Test.

England's desperate tactic

1:00
It certainly didn’t on Sunday morning and Root began to ask for the ball to be changed within the first 40 overs of Australia’s innings. The ball is meant to last for 80.

His claims were that the ball was out of shape, although the umpires’ circular tool, used to test the shape of the ball, proved otherwise.

Several requests were made, including once when Root had umpire Joel Wilson bizarrely smell the ball (it reportedly landed in someone’s beer). Most notably requests were made in the morning session when play was stopped three times in less than six overs for the umpires to check the Duke’s.

Whether it was the end of an over or not was an irrelevant factor, as one of the requests came five balls into one Stuart Broad over.

Former England Test captains Michael Atherton and Nasser Hussain weren’t sold on the tactics from Root and his bowlers, with the former suggesting they were attempting to “fool” the umpires.

Hopefully the rain can save us today. After the first innings it doesn’t seem we’re capable of a the required run rate assuming we’re even able to stay out in the middle for the entire day.
Smiths total didn’t surprise me at all but Wades, wow.

Rain wont save you, forecast looks to have turned right around, lot of sunny periods, no rain

go for the draw is your best bet, we would have taken that at the start of the test, certainly at 8/122

I could see Smith, Head, perhaps even Wade bowl a few to give Lyon a bit of a break every now and again.
Whilst the pace bowlers go from the other end.

Don't think we'll run through them within 2 sessions. Gonna be a long day I suspect before this result is known.
