2019 Crowd Watch

I think people are getting a bit carried away with the Gosford crowd. Now there is no doubt it is a great crowd, and one that I don't think South's would have got at ANZ based upon their crowds in general this year (and the fact ANZ is really really on the nose with RL fans in 2019), but 1x 19.5K and 1x 14.6K crowd doesn't mean a team in the region would suddenly be nearly filling Grahame Park each week.

Gosford has shown if you give it a decent game at most Saturday / Sunday timeslots (especially if the sun is shining) they'll turn up, which is better than some grounds at the moment, but as shown in the past Thursday's and Friday's are terrible for CC (could you imagine a 6pm game at Gosford on a Friday?) and games against poor opposition don't rate.

This year will also be only the 3rd time since 2000 that the avg. for Gosford is more than 16K when the venue has held 2x or more games in a season...

Not so for Friday 6pm. Think it could be a great timeslot. After work crowd destination. Make it an event especially with train travel so handy and league's club next door! Thursday night game would be an issue but that's it .

You get a boost once every second year when you get to host the anzac day game.

Btw, the eels have won 4 wooden spoons in the last decade and are coming off one from last season, we have made the semies twice in that time. How would the roosters go if the roles where reversed? Like they did in the early 80's when they had about 300 turn up for one game?

lol the early 80s

We have no fans remember? and Parra has a huge fanbase apparently so it shouldn't matter how the teams are doing, Parra should always, without exception, outdraw the roosters.

The fact is there is absolutely zero proof that Parra would get massive crowds with sustained success.

Speaking of a 'boost', you are the only ones out of our 2 clubs with a brand new state of the art stadium to play out of whilst we have the SCG yet we still have a higher home average.

So no team gets lower crowds when they struggle on the pitch for years on end?

Does any team get a decent crowd at ANZ stadium where parra were playing lately all while being a wooden spoon team?

Memberships over the last 5 seasons show parra well in front even though they won a couple of wooden spoons whilst the roosters have been winning GF's or vying for them and can't get within earshot of the eels. Your team should be averaging 20k a match with all that bought success it's had for the last 24 years, last time parra had a premiership winning year they averaged 20k. The Roosters taking out the boosted anzac game wouldn't have averaged 20k once. You can thank the dragons every second year for boosting your pathetic crowds.

Oh and as for stadiums, I'm quite sure the SFS was way better than Parra stadium and it's grass hills at either end until a decade ago, still had no roof over it.

In the 5 yrs after Freddy left, the roosters missed the finals 4 times and also collected a wooden spoon, their avg crowd was 14,000 for those years.

The roosters still average the highest Sydney crowd this year, not sure why the ANZAC crowd is always brought up, as ever team hosts some form of traditional match, eels usually benefit from the Easter weekend, plus having the new stadium this year and competing for the top 4, still can’t get the most crowd average in Sydney,

Souths and dragons always harp on about how well supported they are during the good times and bad, yet the crowds have been abysmal also,

As a question, what sort of average crowd do people class as acceptable? 13k at small suburban grounds is classed as a great thing for some teams, but not rated when the same crowd is at SFS or ANZ.

The majority of teams are now taking home games to the bush,Perth,Darwin,NZ,Brisbane, should all these games be taken out of official home crowd figures?

A good case for a consolidation /expansion club namely the Central Coast Bears. It's a win/win waiting to be added to this competition . But unfortunately it does not have the influential support it needs within the game to happen. It's basically a licence to print money with a Leagues club, modern ground on a rail way line and a real shot of regaining lost Bears fans along with cementing the Central Coast as another rugby league heartland area. Juniors are there and more would come with the anticipation of such a club. The local derbies would be immense: Central Coast v Newcastle and Bears v Manly Warringah. So many positives along with the high visibility the code gets when featured at this location on a major train line during game day.

Why do the bears deserve the spot? They aren't even committed to the area with their NSW Cup team.

The Roosters are arguably the 4th franchise in their own precinct. They are a complete embarressment for the code.

Thats hardly a local derby. It takes about two days to get from Manly to Gosford.

Parra have more fans, that is not what we are talking about, we are talking about attendance.

Why shouldn't ANZAC Day be included? It is for the Dragons as is Easter for those teams competing. The last few years have involved more roosters fans than dragons as well.

The point I am making is that it is a complete myth that 'if' parra were successful they would have a huge crowd average, history doesn't back it up. The fact is they are regularly out performed by clubs that allegedly have no fans.

I agree parra are an embarrassment, but, you won’t get better living on 1980s glory.

30+ years of disappointment, poor recruitment, retention and junior development only add to the myth of parramatta being loved or successful.

only fools those who half heartedly support them.

Lucky the wanderers offered to share the stadium with them, or they may have been forgotten again for another 30years.

Parra have been trying to buy success since the mid 90s, they just suck at it.

.

The ANZAC game distorts the reality. It is a
huge statistical outlier and can be excluded because their is an explanation for it which is that it is really an NRL event promoted by Nine and the NRL to try to compete with AFLs ANZAC day event.
If other clubs get the same from Easter Monday then exclude those as well.

Roosters have held no Friday 6 pm games this year and two thursday night games wilst parra played a rival in penrith on a thursday and have 2 rival games again on shitty nights, one against the dogs on a thursday and another against manly on a friday at 6pm, the roosters have held not one 6pm game on a friday. Parra will have a bigger average by years end still.

edit we had a 6k crowd in darwin, maybe we should only use sydney averages eh? hows that premiers.

Cute. Hopefully that crowd transpires into premierships, otherwise that would be embarrassing.
