Ball Stripping Good or Bad?

Don’t make out like the Roosters have some great innovative coaching staff. They just steal all the best players.
They aren’t going to work things out next year they will just swap Aubusson for Semi Radradra.

Robbo’s innovations all come in the form of air tight defensive structures, so its unsurprising that a “duhhhh more points is more football” simpleton such as yourself can’t recognise them.

Our utter dismantlement of the rest of the top 4 in last year’s finals series to the point where they all looked embarrassingly lost with the ball in hand was a masterclass in game plans by Trent

Air tight defensive structures?
FFS, defense in the NRL is 10 men in a straight line accross the field moving up in a straight line. He has just copied Bellamy's innovations but then out recruited everyone by a long way for the last 6 or 7 years.

And if you think defensive plays turn up on any highlights reels you are off your meds. My argument is the game needs to improve the attack because firstly, currently defense is dominating attack secondly, attack is boring repetative and too structured and thirdly nobody except the hardest of hard core fan watches the game and gets any pleasure or entertainment out of defense. If you do get enjoyment out of defense then you are the equivalent of those rugby fans who think ruck & mauls and lots of penalty kicks at goal are great sport.
Improve attack makes defense more entertaining.
(Cooper Cronk admitted during the week that the teams he has been involved with spend 70% of their time working on defense and 30% on attack....thats the two teams with the best attacking talent in the world, how putrid. ).

I hate it.... but only because my team absolutely sucks at it - If I was a Raiders fan I'd be all for keeping it the same as it is now

No doubt the NRL will respond to the big issues by removing this blight- which happens as often as twice in some games- as they continue to tackle the big issues.

But Melbourne can twist your head off however they like & for some reason it's viewed as some mythical boundary that Melbourne alone are so good at "pushing" without crossing.

I wouldn't say it hasn't helped them... I'd rather their position on the ladder than where the Panthers currently sit

It's just a little string to the bow. Some teams have great kicker & can get 40/20s or convert every try. Some good offloads & second phase. Raiders have a smart #9 who has developed his strip play because he's smart enough to spot a lazy player & take advantage & partly asa self defense mechanism to make big blokes have top think twice about how they charge into him.

It's not leading to a rampant Raiders who are unstoppable because of a silly rule. It's just a little style of play which makes a point of difference when you play them.

Brother, I am in full agreement with you, but as I said in my first post, the Panthers are f**king horrible at it, which is the ONLY reason I think it should be outlawed... Other than that, I think it's a great ploy for teams to take advantage of where they can.

Have a maximum of 2 in the tackle, and allow ball stripping.

You get big men waltzing down the field 15-20m a run until someone gets their legs properly and a shift toward cannonball shape guys with legs too big to get around but ok. If that's the game you want.

Whatever. The 3rd tackler is always part of a wrestle and never, repeat never, needed.

I'm not actually against the idea. But it will dramatically change the type shape of players in FG. Less need to get across to make as many defensive efforts. More need to win the first collision rather than step it. More incentive to cash into the line than try to get through a gap.

It's quite a dramatic shift & as artificial as any other rule we've added lately- a flat our limit on who can tackle who & how. It will need fiddly buts around try scoring situations & areas- unless you want constant bereaver tries from 2m out...

I'm just not sure you've thought it through vs allowing a one the last meaningful contests in the game which may just "settle in" (given we've only just changed it.. again) & became a rule which is easy to grok & police & forces a ;ump to think before he smashes into a smart little man, and another avenue whereby an aware footballer can take advantage of a tired lump with a smart play.

Instead of banning it, existing calls like , "held", "release" could be called clearly to reduce other impacts of the strip or attempt & when it is allowed/speed up the play. Put onus on the stripper to get themselves the F out of dodge once the ref calls held/release.

Better ideas than completely changing who can tackle who.

Being able to constantly recruit superstars doesn't hurt.
