Again, thanks for your efforts posting all the links.

As i said brother, this is a cover up... Useless morons.

Spot on...and they think this will appease the fans....

Will serve them right if we get our lowest memberships next year,,,

PEOPLE REALLY NEED TO CONSIDER WHETHER THEY WANT TO SUPPORT THIS TYPE OF MEDIOCRITY AND SHEER DISHONESTY IN TERMS OF THE WAY THEY TREAT THEIR FAN BASE.

I will add to that, that I am at the point that I really don't care....why should I ? The board doesn't....

I have better ways to spent my hard earned dollars than put up with these amateurs....

It would be interesting to see actual (true) membership and attendance figures since McGregor took charge and especially 2019.
If the Board sees their income tanking, they have no choice but to do something drastic.
What may be emerging with Gould is a cheap band aid solution whereby they give the impression to the fans that Gould is being hired on a long term mission whereas he will only participate short term in a skewed review in an attempt to exonerate McGregor and keep him on.
That won't cost much and the Board can point to Gould and say how astute their decision was to keep McGregor going if Gould conveniently comes to that conclusion during his review.
The real tragedy is that contract extension earlier in the year. Second time the club has made the same mistake and Johnston threw his total support behind McGregor.
In the objective world of business, the sequence of events should be:
1. Bring in an independent hatchet man - could be Gould or someone else.
2. Fire Johnston for perpetrating and perpetuating this mess.
3. Fire McGregor and all his assistants.
4. Fire Millward as he is a major contributor to this disaster.
5. Install a new coaching regime and let that champion bring in his own support staff.
Then the fans could have something to look forward to instead of dreading the start of the 2020 season.
I know it ain't going to happen but I am just taking a leaf out of Possm's book.

I really love your posts.

Dragons draft in Gould to help with end-of-season review

Phil Gould will begin a review of St George Illawarra football operations next week after being approached by Dragons coach Paul McGregor.

Gould, NSW’s most successful State of Origin coach and a two-time premiership-winning mentor with Canterbury and Penrith, has more than 30 years experience as a coach, administrator and commentator and is considered one of the most knowledgeable people in the game.

He was a guest at the annual Illawarra Rugby League luncheon in Wollongong, which was a roast in honour of McGregor and attended by many of his former team-mates and coaches.

McGregor later asked Gould to help out with St George Illawarra’s annual review of football operations and offer an outsider’s perspective on areas he and the club can improve.

After confirming his interest to Dragons CEO Brian Johnston, Gould will be involved with the review once the team’s season officially ends after Saturday’s match against Gold Coast at Cbus Super Stadium.

“Paul McGregor asked me a couple of weeks ago if I could provide an external set of eyes and ears over the Dragons' end-of-year review process,” Gould said. “I spoke with Brian Johnston this week. Brian, Paul and I will meet again next week after the Dragons' final game.”

Dragons out to honour milestones

While the specific details of Gould’s role are unclear, it is not expected that the review will lead to him taking on a permanent role with St George Illawarra.

Gould has previously been involved in end-of-season reviews at other clubs, most notably at North Queensland where he recommended to the Cowboys in 2010 that Neil Henry should remain as coach and Johnathan Thurston as captain.

“The end-of-year review process, conducted by every NRL club every year, represents part of the process of future planning,” Gould said.

“I’m happy to lend a hand. It's not a paid job. Every year, even during my time at Panthers, I get NRL coaches, assistant coaches, chairmen, CEOs and even players requesting to catch up and have a cup of coffee to talk about life, their football clubs and their careers. I've always been more than happy to help if I can.

“I’m looking forward to speaking with the Dragons club next week.”

Johnston said that while the club undertakes a review at the end of every year, it will have added significance this season given St George Illawarra’s disappointing 2019 campaign.

"Nobody at the club is happy with how the Dragons have performed and that's extended to all our stakeholders including members and supporters," Johnston said.

"We are committed to reviewing all aspects of our football department to ensure improvement in 2020."

There is no suggestion that McGregor’s job is under threat, and he is expected to commence his new two-year contract in 2020, but changes to the club’s coaching staff have been predicted.

A series of changes were made after the 2016 review overseen by a panel comprising former Dragons skipper Mark Coyne, sport scientist Dr Craig Duncan and performance specialists Dirk Melton and Clare Prideaux.

Among their recommendations was that McGregor leave recruitment decisions to St George Illawarra head of pathways Ian Millward so he could focus solely on coaching and the Dragons fell one win short of a finals berth in 2017 before finishing seventh last season after leading the premiership for 18 rounds.

Without the services of key forward Jack de Belin for the entire season due to the ARLC’s no-fault stand-down policy and captain Gareth Widdop for most of it after a shoulder injury, the Dragons have struggled and will finish 15th regardless of the result of Saturday’s match against Gold Coast.

Widdop reflects on Dragons memories

Tyson Frizell (ruptured testicle), James Graham (broken leg), Korbin Sims (broken arm), Corey Norman (fractured cheekbone), Tim Lafai (ankle), Zac Lomax (broken thumb) and Jeremy Latimore (knee) have also spent extended time on the sidelines.

Once the team was no longer in finals reckoning, Tariq Sims underwent surgery for a groin injury he had battled since round three and rookie winger Jason Saab had shoulder surgery, while hooker Cameron McInnes broke his leg in last weekend’s loss to Wests Tigers.

Besides the loss of Widdop (Warrington) and Jeremy Latimore (retiring), the Dragons roster will be largely unchanged in 2020, with the likes of Saab, Tristan Sailor and Jackson Ford expected to feature more regularly in the top team after making their debuts this season.

The club’s Canterbury Cup team are minor premiers and their under-20s are also in the finals of their NSWRL competition.

I am so over this club, I cancelled all my families memberships last week. Told them they would not get another cent until McGregor was removed as coach. Then all the rumours about McGregor being under real pressure and possibly being sacked started earlier this week. I started to get hopeful that maybe I would be renewing next year after all, but no I should have known better. This board are a complete joke, I do not recognise this once great club anymore. I have always accepted the joint venture and I still do but the nrl might as well move the club to Wollongong full time and rename them the Steelers, give Cronulla the Kogarah area because the way the club has been run for years now I do not see the St George dragons when I look at the club anymore. I always try and give the club the benefit of the doubt and think they will eventually make the right decision but no more. This latest episode with the so called review which was never going to be about doing the right thing for the club but rather trying to find a way to ensure they can keep McGregor in his job has done it for me. I will always be a dragons fan but until I see an actual dragons club that I can feel a part off I am done supporting this mob.

Well there are some dumbasses who will not give up their membership because they apparently support the team. Must be that bleeding for the club that Mary is renowned for.

Good lawd , this is getting worse by the moment “ McGregor asked Gould . . “
Just how much power does Mary have ? Who is actually running the J.V. ? By all accounts it would appear to be our nemesis Mary himself ! We may need a silver bullet to finally rid ourselves of this bloke once and for all - it may be the only way !

Big changes coming fellow supporters. Gould will recommend changes to both Kogarah Oval and Win Stadium, both to be 98M long with low hanging roofing. According to Mary's logic we will be unstoppable at home.

I prefer the stake thru the heart method Gareth, much more dramatic

Mary puts the call out to Gould, haha,
I've heard it all now. If this is true, it's the one thing they have stuffed up on in this BS cover up attempt.
How and why can the coach under pressure be the one calling the shots for a review about himself?
It beggars belief and if true, Mary ain't going anywhere anytime soon, sadly, cause he seems to be the one calling all the shots. F'ing disgraceful.

Great post. This board did not deserve receiving the benefit of doubt.

Hello emu62 , it’s been a while since we have had the pleasure of your company.
But yes I do like your idea , a hell of a lot more bloody and more agonizing screams involved.

" McGregor later asked Gould to help out with St George Illawarra’s annual review of football operations and offer an outsider’s perspective on areas he and the club can improve."
Mary is going rogue after securing his part of the old boys backroom deal. So far Craig Young and BJ have received their part of the deal - being appoint as a Board member and CEO respectively and now it is others who are waiting for their piece of the pie. But Mary has seen that some of these decision making old boys are costing him credibility - we that's his view of the situation - and so bringing in Gould may shake things up causing some of the incomplete deals to be wiped.

However, everyone including Gould know Mary is the main problem, closely followed by Millward. To complete the review and leave one or both of these fools in place would smack of a coverup and adversely taint Gould's reputation.

So I am predicting a fair din-come review resulting in the following:
  1. Gould's appointment as head of the football department and develop a five year plan for SGI Football Department.
  2. Mary will be sacked and replaced by JD as the new head coach.
  3. Gould will supervise player training and recruitment/retention leading up into the Christmas break.
  4. Brown will replace Millward as recruitment/pathways/retention officer. He will take over these responsibilities on Nov 1 and report directly to Gould.
  5. There will be a major shake-up of the High Performance and Fitness Department. They along with the unavailability of De Belin and Widdop during 2019 will be one of the major reasons given for the poor performance this season.
  6. Key players will be retained and unwanted players will be let go. Brown will be busy identifying new recruits and developing an effective pathways plan where essential skills, body shape and long term contracts will be part of the grooming of players identified as suitable for first grade development.
  7. Brown will do a deal with a couple of ESL clubs where those juniors moving up but not quite ready for first grade can spend a season in the ESL prior to competing for a first grade spot.
  8. Other Clubs will need to payout these contracts prior to poaching our finest and brightest juniors.

@possm ,

Not sure if you read / heard the news re Goulds involvement mate..

Gould's role, if any , will be part time and not hands on. As quoted in the DT..

" There are also moves for Gould to have an ongoing role with the club beyond the review. The plan involves Gould becoming a coaching consultant to McGregor and help mentor the St George Illawarra coach and his assistants. It is not expected he will be involved with the day to day coaching of the NRL side, instead he will act as a sounding board to the under-siege McGregor."
