Parramatta Leagues Club board sacked, administrator appointed

Push for Parramatta Leagues Club reforms partially successful
Adrian Proszenko
September 10, 2019

It’s taken three years and more than half a dozen attempts, but Parramatta Leagues Club members have finally agreed to a new constitution that ensures the Eels are protected from privatisation and will continue to receive leagues club funding.

The latest attempt to introduce the governance changes were passed at the ballot box at Bankwest Stadium on Tuesday night. A total of 76 per cent of the votes were in favour - just above the 75 per cent threshold required to amend the constitution.

"We have to vote ‘yes’ so we can get on with it and Max can retire," Fitzgerald said, before adding: "I am sure we will beat the Broncos on Sunday."

However, the first of the two motions fell five agonising votes short of allowing the complete reforms, that would have allowed members to install their own directors from 2021.

The vote took place just a day after the Heraldrevealed that the Leagues Club had been cleared of salary cap rorting after a year-long investigation by Liquor & Gaming NSW. The regulator investigated allegations that Eels players were given subsidised rent on properties owned by the league club. However, there was no evidence of any breaches of the NRL’s salary cap or the Registered Clubs Act. PLC chief executive Bevan Paul was also cleared of any impropriety following a raft of allegations, that were believed to have emanated from a disgruntled former employee.

The Eels have been reliant on grants from the leagues club to help fund their football operations, although they are hoping to get to a point where they are self sufficient.

Actually it fell 15 votes short as you need a 3 to 1 ratio to get up
The stupid merkins had 5 voters more than they needed to get over the line, they were never gonna change their mind
Every time this has gone to a vote the opposition has had just over 100 votes each time
This number out of 28000 members is what has been holding the club back
One dissenter got up last night and complained that there was no postal voting as discussed in the last meeting and when the first motion failed he the got up and spoke against the 2nd motion which included allowing postal votes. Mind boggling

Of course I am for real. 20 years of admin is better than giving control to bonehead factions.

Admin is not there by choice. They are there because 27% of plc members can't see the woods through the trees.
Gee thanks scoop :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

I wasn’t able to make it out there, sorry guys. To hear the ‘yes’ vote lost by such a small margin made me feel pretty guilty, even though I had no chance of getting there on a Tuesday night.

I’m so glad the vote to let postal votes be done in the future went through. I’d say there would have been quite a few more people in the same boat as me who weren’t able to get out to vote for whatever reason who will now be able to have their say.

Even stupida are the 26,000 + members who CBFd turning up.

I could be f**ked. I really wanted to get out there on Tuesday.
However due to work, uni study and taking care of a sick one year old, a club vote takes a back seat unfortunately.
I’m sure there were plenty who just didn’t want to make the trip and others who just don’t care who sits on the board as long as the police machines still work, but not all of us can be called stupid for not turning up.

?? How many of those can’t vote because either a) they haven’t been members for 3 years or b) are children/pets?

Pretty sure that pets and kids can't join a casino. Will need to check the legislation but.

Has anyone said what the PNRL voting proceedure is going to be like when it comes around? Who will vote? PLC members or Eels members?

Was it just a dig at whiney for not flying interstate to vote then? Gee what a Spags lover he is.
Or was it a dig at people like me for not becoming members 3 years ago so that we could vote?

Not sure why you even posted that. What a waste of gravity.

If I meant either you or Hiney, I would have said so.
