Maybe the reason was he wanted to get rid of him

I think Gould advised Brennan not to apply for the Newcastle job before Brown took over from memory.

Wanted him to stay and continue developing the Penrith jnrs and leave the Newcastle mess to someone else.

The Roosters attack is so dynamic. Wonder if we will have a more dynamic attack under O'Brian.

To be honest I just wanna see him bring some mental viagra. Our team can't seem to get it up when it matters. If we do that and become competitive, I'm sure everyone here will consider next year a success.

Can't find the article online but in the Telegraph they say Willie Peters is set to join David Furner as the other assistant. He's with the Rabbitohs currently.

Kearny and taylor coached at the roosters and storm when they did quite well before they got their own teams.
yep we really are heading into the unknown here. He'll either be a genius or a deadset failure. Reckon we'll know about this time next year.

If he's any good we'll be heading into a home final and if he's not we'll be posting in the "sack O'brien " thread.

Oooft. This is everything that's wrong with rugby league decision making.

Hang on.. Apologies Knight Vision. Home final would mean 5/6 as well.. Not top 4.

Still don't like the statement but nowhere near as outlandish as "Top 4 or bust" as I mistakenly read it.

Yep, I've got it all ready to go in there, polished the floors, got the windows all cleaned and the knives have been sharpened.

Seriously, knowing how our fan base is, if we get out of the blocks poorly it will see a bit of action early.

The big thing that O’Brien needs to do next year is reduce the gap between our best and our worst. I know that we won’t be at our best every week but our worst has to be better than what it was this year.

I can handle losing games by a try or two if the boys are clearly busting a gut out there but some of the shit that we dished up this year especially during that 6 game losing streak late in the year was pitiful.

Also I want to see us become capable of winning from behind again. Winning games this year seemed to be solely dependent on us getting a big lead early and then doing enough to hold out the inevitable comeback attempt when it happened which we managed to do reasonably well but it was all about blowing the doors off the opposition in the first half. However when we were down at half time we seemingly imploded in the second half every time without fail. The second half efforts against the Roosters at the SCG and Manly at Brookvale are two games that spring to mind.

If we can fix that problem and start to win a few of those games then this will make a massive difference.

KNIGHTS HOPING TO STORM PREMIERSHIP

NEWCASTLE’S new coaching staff will certainly have a Melbourne Storm feel about it next season.

Incoming coach Adam O’Brien was inducted as a Storm life member before joining the Roosters this year. He has appointed former Storm players Rory Kostjasyn and Eric Smith to his Knights staff as development coaches.

Kostjasyn was already part of the Knights’ set-up but Smith will arrive in the pre-season.

Smith has been the Storm’s pathways coach and coached the club’s under-20s. He is also coach of the Sunshine Coast Falcons, who this weekend are playing for a spot in the Queensland Cup grand final.

They will join David Furner and Willie Peters, who are O’Brien’s NRL assistants. The pair worked at South Sydney last year. Scott Dureau will head up the Knights’ junior development.

Meanwhile, at the insistence of O'Brien, Gardner said the club won't be talking down expectations in 2020 despite not making the play-offs for the past six years.

"Adam is adamant we are a top four club - it's what he expects of the team, it's where our fans expect us to be and the playing group needs to be on the same page," he said.

I noted Pearce during last night awards mentioned the "hope to be playing finals footy in the next couple of years " or words to that effect.

Barny on the other hand mentioned a "Premiership" - therein lies the difference between the 2.

Pearce is a weak mind. The weak minds Joey spoke of.

Let's hope O'brien isnt all talk. If he's serious then Pearce wont be expecting to play first grade with some of his efforts this year. Our 1 million dollar a season player should be playing at the top of his game EVERY game.
