The only thing he breaks is his own body, he’s done.

He’s on 900k, why help the merkins?? Let them stew in a shit of their own making.

Would never pay $900k for him ever!!

However at the $400-$500 price range he could offer good value.

He was averaging 110m 5.2 TB before his injury this year. 2018 his form wasn’t that good but previous years 17/16 he was making 110m 3.0 plus TB busts per game. Pretty good attacking stats,

Yeah in a perfect world we wouId chase someone better but we are somewhat limited in who we chase / what we can afford. A fit bird would definitely improve our side.

Also his 2018 / 2019 injuries were unrelated, a strenum injury and a knee injury, so it’s more luck then anything.

Also bird offers our pack a different body shape, plus he has that arrogance/competitive/confident nature about him which could be something we need to go to the next level.

Where you going to play him?? He gets continually broken playing in the backs why would you throw him in the second Roe?? Chasing Bird who we don’t need just because we may get a little cheap is the signing of a desperate club. We aren’t that club anymore let the Dogs and Titans sign him.

Birds good player no one is doubting that but he is beyond broken , we didn't sign Welch due to his injury why would we pay good money for another player that is broken .
Matto would be good , but the manner he left us and now wanting to leave tigers makes him a no for me , so Fifita is the best bet

On the edge. We need an edge forward and him is the only one currently potentially available for 2020.

Yes his injuries have been bad over the last 2 years and off course you wouldn’t touch him if he wasn’t medically cleared.

However at only 25 next year he is still very young and has time on his side.

Plenty of players have had poor runs with injuries and come through the other side Tedesco / slater / Marshall.

Anyone who wants us to sign Bird to play in the forwards has rocks in their empty heads and at this point we don't need an any high priced backs.

Matterson would be good if he were to solely focus on football and his game in particular to go to the next level, which he is capable of. He needs to find better consistency.

But Fifita would be better at the right price.

They all play in the halves or fullback. hardly comparable to want to pay 500k for Bird to play second roe. A bloke with a bad injury history and chronic arthritis. As I said why help the Broncos??? And we should be leaving those 50/50 desperate signings to the Dogs and Titans.

No way.
Matters in shines in the middle. Make a great lock.
Fafita is destructive
Anyhows I heard RM is very high on Clearys list.
The eels are a much more attractive option at the moment than the complete basket case that are the Penrith Panthers. We have a quality roster and if either RM or Fifita were to join us then we become a top 4 side (on paper), capable of jagging a premiership over the next few years with a bit of luck. Surely even you can see the Panthers are not even close and won’t be for a while.

I never said any of that.

Yes, Fifita is 19 - and will be demanding $650,000.

That is seemingly ok, but paying $500,000 for a fringe Origin player with more than one string to his bow is crazy?

Ok, then...

Where did I say that anybody's suggestions were crazy? I just disagreed with some and explained my side of things. I was just suggesting that if he's a like-for-like replacement for Ma'u then you'd imagine their salary would be in the same range.

NRL Scout: No show at training — the new twist in star forward’s standoff with Tigers
WESTS TIGERS

Ryan Matterson’s standoff with the Wests Tigers has taken an intriguing turn this week, with the star forward failing to turn up to training over the past few days.

Less than a week ago, reports emerged that the former Rooster was being targeted by rival clubs and that he was in the hunt for an upgrade.

Possibly the Tigers’ best performer in 2019, Matterson is said to be on $350,000 but such is his form he could easily increase his salary by as much as 50 per cent.

And mystery now surrounds this latest development, and it remains to be seen whether the 24-year-old is attempting to make a statement or not.

When foxsports.com.au asked Matterson’s agent Gavin Orr if the Tigers lock had failed to show up to training, he responded: “No he’s crook and has doctor’s orders to be off training.”

The club insist he was there on Monday.

Either way, it doesn’t look good, and will have other Tigers squad members questioning the player’s commitment to the cause.

Michael Maguire had instructed the Tigers to train for the weeks following their defeat to Cronulla right up until the grand final.

However, RLPA rules stipulate players are only allowed to train for two weeks following their final game.

Matterson has not shown up since the players returned on Monday this week and this new development will fuel further speculation that he wants to leave Concord.

One way in which Matterson could stay with the club on improved terms is the ongoing situation with Ben Matulino.

The Kiwi international played 13 games this year, but since a knee injury in Round 14 has not been seen in Tigers colours.

Such was the severity of the injury, there was talk the club might look to medically retire him.

It is understood that the club have now lodged paperwork with the NRL to do just that.

In doing so, the Tigers can free up significant cap space to the tune of $800,000, which would allow them to re-sign club favourites Benji Marshall and Chris Lawrence who are both off-contract.
