Yeh I did know GD...it is just one of those silly rules I dont agree with.
Yeh you should play a certain amount of games to qualify for the semis

They all got dropped
If Dragons were playing semis this weekend Sailor Ford and Pearson would all be that side.
Who plays for Ressie if Host Rava and Dufty shouldn't...

Agree to disagree.
Luck of the draw. Dufty and Rava did not play the semi or get selected and should of been picked for a token meaningless 1st grade game anyway as should of Host. The NRL coach did not need to pick those qualified reggies players for a token 1st grade game (for what. extra 1 game experience against the 16th place side especially Robson) either at the risk of jeopardising the semi final win aginst the Dogs. Lucky it did not.

CANTERBURY CUP

Five things: Canterbury Cup preliminary final v Newtown

The Canterbury Cup NSW Dragons are only 80 minutes away from a grand final appearance when they take on the Newtown Jets. Here are five important factors about Sunday's massive game.

Grand final awaits

With a place in the Canterbury Cup grand final on the line, there's no doubt Sunday's clash will be an intense NRL-standard clash.

After 24 rounds of the regular season, the Dragons finished as minor premiers and come into the match as the team to beat. The Newtown Jets meanwhile snuck into the finals in seventh place after winning four of their last five games.

2016 was the last time the Dragons (then called the Illawarra Cutters) made the grand final in the state competition, when they narrowly trumped the Mounties 21-20 in a thrilling decider.

The Newtown Jets will have redemption on their mind though, following their six-point grand final loss to the Bulldogs last year.

Stars back on deck

The Dragons are fielding a full-strength side for the preliminary final with a number of NRL players available for the do-or-die clash.

Fullback Tristan Sailor, winger Jonus Pearson, back-rower Jackson Ford and hooker Reece Robson have all been named to return to the side. Towering forward Josh Kerr also returns to the starting line-up with Mitch Allgood shifting to lock.

The influx of NRL players has forced coach Mat Head to fine-tune the line-up from their last start victory against the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs. For the full team list and positional changes, click here.

Wheeler: we can't afford a loss at any stage

Wobbly record

Despite finishing clear of the Jets on the ladder by six points, the Dragons failed to trump the Sharks' feeder side on both encounters this season.

In Round 11, a late charge from the Dragons wasn't enough to prevent a 36-22 loss. Their Round 16 match also had a similar script, with the Dragons storming home in the second half to only fall short 24-18.

Photo finish

There wasn't much between the two sides at the conclusion of the regular season further adding to the exciting contest.

The Dragons finished the season as the highest scoring team (612) behind the Jets (610). The Dragons also finished on top for most tries scored (110) to the Jets (109).

The Jets can, however, claim the most goal kicking success (87), but true to the competitiveness of both sides the Dragons are right on their heels (86).

Home ground advantage

The way the chips have fallen, the Dragons will get the home ground advantage and play at Netstrata Jubilee Stadium, Kogarah this Sunday.

The match kicks off at 3:10pm after two curtain-raiser matches involving the Sydney Shield and Ron Massey Cup preliminary finals (first match at 10:50am).

Tickets for the day are $10 for adults with kids free. Tickets are only available at the gate.

If you can't make it to Kogarah to cheer the boys on in person, the match will be broadcast live on Channel 9 in NSW. For people out of state, you can see live updates via our match day centre here.

Hey Willow, would have been great catching up with you and seeing the game but unfortunately I will be working, hopefully the boys will get up, I was fortunate enough to watch them play against the Bears at North Sydney Oval a few months ago speaking of old school.

yes same, not to the extent of choosing him as our next FG coach but....IF they were to choose from within if they dump the bald plum Id much much rather it be Heady than any kind of Young or Hornby!

Long time lurker, first time poster.
Anyone in QLD have any tips on how I can watch the Reggie’s game on Sunday on TV/PC?

Fox isn’t showing the Dragons game and FTA is showing QLD Cup.

Cheers

I had the same issue in Qld but found an easy solution.

I can watch NSW C Cup on 9Now which is Channel Nine's On Demand service. You have to sign up but it's free. Once in, go to 'Live TV' when the game is on and that should do it.

I can watch it via my Fetch box (Optus) in the Catch Up section, and I imagine there are other set ups that do the same on your TV. But failing that, I understand you can watch it on your device or computer. Go to https://www.9now.com.au/.

@George Dragon or @Dragonsamy can you guys shed any light on the injury to Periera?

He's been out for some time now and must be more serious than first thought.
Jordy had some pressure on his spine that was giving him some tingling.
He was advised by the specialist not to play again this season to be safe.
He has been training still and should be fine by next season.

CANTERBURY CUP

Throwback Thursday: Canterbury Cup road to finals

Before the Dragons take on the Newtown Jets for a place in the Canterbury Cup grand final, take a look back at their journey to the minor premiership and the finals series.

St George Illawarra 34 defeated Newcastle Knights 16
Round 4. Sunday, April 7, 2019
McDonald Jones Stadium, Newcastle

It took four rounds before the Dragons claimed their first win of the season with a comprehensive victory against the Knights in Newcastle. Their early-season losses had them placed down the wrong end of the ladder coming into the match.

A draw against the Mounties, and losses to both the Rabbitohs and Panthers, combined for a lackluster start to the season while the Knights opened their campaign with a big victory over the Newtown Jets.

With a point to prove, the CC Dragons blew the Knights off the park much to the disappointment of the home crowd. It took 17 minutes before Jonus Pearson opened the scoring, but the Dragons would only claim a 12-4 lead at half-time.

Four tries in the second half extended the Dragons' lead and confirmed their first win of the season, propelling them onto a four-game winning streak.

St George Illawarra 24 defeated Penrith Panthers 22
Round 15. Saturday, June 29, 2019
WIN Stadium, Wollongong

The Dragons came up against a Penrith Panthers outfit with a clear plan to upset the home side, but a Darren Nicholls try stole victory in the shadows of full-time to elevate the Red V into first on the ladder.

The Dragons drew first blood after just two minutes when Jai Field fooled the Panthers with a dummy before racing 40 meters to plant it down. Both sides traded blows for the remainder of the half, but the Panthers ultimately claimed an 18-12 lead at half-time.

Four minutes into the second half, the Panthers extended their lead to 10, leaving the Dragons with a tough task of making up the deficit. Jackson Ford was the man to get the Dragons within reach of victory, burrowing over with 20 minutes remaining.

The match became an arm wrestle although Nicholls would prove the difference when he split through the Panthers' defence from close range. A Tristan Sailor goal put the hosts in front with five remaining on the clock to temporarily seal top spot.

CC Dragons match highlights: Finals week one v Bulldogs

St George Illawarra 24 defeated Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs 22
Round 24. Saturday, August 31, 2019
Belmore Sports Ground

The Dragons produced a performance worthy of a premiership when they trumped the reigning premiers in this thrilling and gritty win which locked up the minor premiership.

The Dragons defence was rock solid to start the match and built the foundations for the impressive victory. The victory ensured the Dragons won the minor premiership following the Rabbitohs' shock loss to the Wentworthville Magpies later that day.

The Dragons showed plenty of character to finish as victors and backed up that performance the following week, again against the Bulldogs, in week one of the finals in a golden point thriller.

CANTERBURY CUP

Stat attack: Canterbury Cup preliminary final v Newtown

The Dragons have a tough assignment in trumping the Newtown Jets in Sunday's grand final qualifier.

Overall, the Dragons hold a strong record over the Jets winning nine of 14 matches between the two sides, however, the Jets have won both encounters this season.

There is almost nothing to split the two sides in attack; the Dragons finished the season as the highest scoring team (612) ahead of the Jets (610). The Dragons also finished on top for most tries scored (110) ahead of the Jets (109).

The Jets can, however, claim the most goal kicking success (87), but true to the competitiveness of both sides the Dragons are right on their heels (86).

But it's defensively where Mat Head's side begins to explain why they have the title of minor premiers. The Dragons are far more disciplined in defence, with the Jets topping the league for missed tackles (866) – over 100 more than the Dragons (740).

Danger man
William Kennedy

Kennedy might not be a household name, but his recent form in the Canterbury Cup has him front of mind for players in the state competition.

Hailing from Bathurst, the 21-year-old was a key factor in Newtown's run to the grand final last year, and he has continued his form for the Bluebags in 2019 where he's posted astronomical numbers.

Kennedy is the second-highest try scorer of the competition (15) and also claims the second-most tackle breaks of any player (97). He has the most kick return metres of any player (798) and has racked up 12 line breaks and ran for 2,235 metres.

In his most recent outing against the North Sydney bears in last week’s elimination final, Kennedy almost single-handedly won the game for the Jets, scoring a double, running for game high 193 metres and busting a crazy 14 tackles.

CC Dragons match highlights: Finals week one v Bulldogs

Key match ups
Lachlan Timm v Wesley Lolo

Destructive impact collides with hard-working consistency in this front row match-up.

Timm and Lolo play different roles for their sides despite both weighing well over the 110kg mark. Timm is consistently one of the top performers on the Dragons stat sheet and currently has the most tackles of any player in the competition (819). Timm also ranks second in post-contact metres (1,417) and total run metres (3,875).

While Lolo's numbers might not seem up to the heights of his opposite number, Lolo only plays on average 20-30 minutes while Timm plays upwards of 60.

In that short amount of time however, Lolo’s impact on the field can be devastating, racking up 468 tackles, the ninth-most post contact metres (973), and a total of 2,499 metres.

Adam Clune v Jack A Williams

Both Clune and Williams are pivotal to their side's success and Sunday's preliminary final will be no different.

Clune has been the key to the Dragons' lethal attack in 2019, with an impressive strike rate of putting his teammates into the clear. Clune has produced a competition high 26 try assists this season.

Combined with his seven forced dropouts, three tries and 1493 total running metres, Clune will need to be at his influential best for the Dragons to come away victorious.

Williams's 10 try assists are solid, although they pale in comparison to Clune. Williams's passing ability is second to none out wide while his pin-point kicking is always a feature of Newtown's attack.

No, you watch it live on 9Now.

I watch it live on TV in Qld because I have Optus and their Fetch box connects me to all these other services, including 9Now Live.

If you don't have Optus Fetch, you still be able to watch live on your laptop through 9Now Live.

Btw, welcome to the forums Shaun. Loved your work with the council street sweeper in Brissie. ;-)

Check the 'Live' tab while a game is on.

I've only ever watched it Live on 9Now. I've never tried to access previous games.

Hard to imagine that they would geoblock the live broadcast on all formats besides Optus Fetch.
