Ryde Eastwood 44 St Marys 24

Half back, Mitch Gray crossed for 2 tries in the first 13 minutes and then Tristan Evans Tsoi came off the bench and scored 2 tries in his first 20 minutes on the field to see the Hawks in total control at 24-6 at the break, and on resumption they almost immediately extended to 30-6.

The Saints supporters were given some hope when Maizen scored and following a raft of penalties in the RE red zone, Evans Tsoi was binned and St Marys scored twice more giving a scoreline of 30-20 with 22 minutes left. Shortly after his return from the bin the NSWRL's top scorer suffered what appeared to be a serious jaw injury when he defended against Seumanu on the tryline. RE resisted the pressure and scored 3 more tries. The goal kicking could be an issue in a more competitive match up, with the RE goal kickers landing only 4 from 10 whereas Papa kicked 7 out of 7 for Cabra yesterday.

RMC

St Marys 32 Hills 16

In a game that bore some similarities to the 2017 GF when Auburn came from next to last to make the big game only to see Wenty blow them off the park, the Hills fairy tale came crashing down as St Marys were irresistible with 5 tries before the break to lead 26-0.

When they changed ends the Bulls supporters were believing again as Hills struck a purple patch to score 3 times in 8 minutes including arguable the try of the year. With their season on the line at 26-16, veteran Lestrange fumbled the restart and St Marys regained their composure and after a few sets Sini crossed in the corner to wrap up a GF spot.

Wenty and St Marys have managed to defy the lottery finals system so we will see 2 teams play for the title after losing only 3 games out of 22. By contrast, the NSW Cup GF will feature 2 teams that lost a total of 21 games.

How many tries has Evans Tsoi scored. Can you post some stats on top try scorers etc for both grades

What a joke the SS and RMC grand finals are at liechardt and the Flegg and NSW cup are at bankwest. Would have been a great day to have them all at bankwest.

While I tend to agree RE: occasion, the logistical problem is time. CC is the top of the tree and its GF being on Ch 9 means it needed to be 3pm kickoff. If you count back you end up with an 8:30am or 9am SS decider and that's shit IMO.

But agree it's BS that the NSWRL originally said all 4 at BW and that's not the case. Even the Jnr Reps were at Bankwest

Bonus for NSWRL they get to double dip on gate takings.

could do what some of the other NSWRL games do, have the TV CC game at the required time, then have the RMC or SS game afterwards.

That's what I was getting at with my pinnacle comment though - NSWRL want CC to be the pinnacle. This method works fine for the semis and prelims but I think it would be negative for GF Day - hundreds likely leaving ahead of a GF would be a buzz kill

I actually think they should go one better, and have the CC GF before one of the NRL prelims, then have a Flegg-SS-RMC GF day standalone
Yep thats a great idea. They could play the CC grand final before the roosters v storm game at the SCG.
Only issue is the gate taking the NSWRL might miss out on.

Yeah I agree this would be a good idea , it would suit better , like a curtain raiser for the roosters storm game. They should play all grades at bankwest like they said. They would make a killing !

I think it is something like this:

RMC

18 Jake Maizen (St Marys), Isaac Rabuatoka (Wests)

15 Roman Loelu (Mounties), Maliko Filino (St Marys), Jake Toby (St Marys), C McCoy (Hills)

13 Eddie Aiono (Mounties)

12 John Faiumu (St Marys), Josh Lewis (Guildford), Charlton Schaafhausen (Wenty), John Tohi (Blacktown)

11 Eli Roberts (Wenty), Josh Bergamin (Wenty), Marli Sini (St Marys), Michael Pearsall (Asquith), Jack Gibbons (Wests)

10 Epa Navale (Wenty), Josh Minhinnick (Wenty), George Tsikrikas (St Marys), Matt Whyte (Brothers), Josh Camroux (Guildford), Pat Bolea (Hills)

9 Jett Karam (Mounties), Jordan Remfrey (Asquith), Ryan Foaese (Brothers), Dave Baumann (Hills)

Honeti Tuha scored 8 for Cabra and 2 for Asquith.

SS

29 Tristan Evans Tsoi (Ryde Eastwood)

23 Shayden Stevens (Moorebank)

17 tom Menzies (Asquith)

16 Julian King (Guildford)

15 Theo Leato (ECE)

14 Shannon Gallant (ECE), Grant Lahey (ECE), Mitch Gray (Ryde Eastwood), Reg Alofipo (Ryde Eastwood), Skippy Lipano (Wenty)

13 Jake Horton (Moorebank), Tyrone Shelley (Wenty), Shaiquan Terekia (Wenty)

12 Craig Moustakis (ECE), Jake Kamire (Moorebank), Josh Risk (Ryde Eastwood), Angelo Panambalana (Ryde Eastwood), David Sisifa (Wenty), Isiah Tuari (Cabra)

11 Anthony Raheb (Cabra)

10 Alipati Potifara (ECE), Vaenuku Vatuvai (ECE), Tyrone Harding (Moorebank), Brad Cousins (Ryde Eastwood), Alec Panetta (Belrose)

Even though they made the last 4, the top try scorer for St Marys SS was only 9 each by Aunsese Scanlon and Feilo, because they gave so many different players an opportunity play and 48 of them scored.

Ryde-Eastwood win the Shield and Wenty win the Cup

RMC

Wenty won 32-14 to end a streak of 11 consecutive wins by St Marys. In that run the only time St Marys scored less than 30 points was in their win against Wenty at the start of July. When Kurt Falls kicked a long range penalty on half time it was 8-8 and despite a 3rd try to Wenty shortly after the restart, Jake Toby conjured up a try to put St Marys ahead 14-12 at the 50 minute mark. Beau Henry had missed all 3 conversions. Wenty dominated the last 30 minutes and wrapped up 3 consecutive premierships, equalling Newtown's hat trick 1995-97 in the Metropolitan Cup and Ryde Eastwood's success 1974-76 in the Metropolitan League. In fact Wenty have now won 7 in 11 years, just short of their run of 8 in 10 years in 2nd Division 1964-73.

SS

Ryde Eastwood's last major success was being Metro cup winners in 2000 although the did win Metro reserves in 2002 when their top side were hammered 44-12 by Sydney Bulls. After an absence of 14 years from these competitions, and with a young squad the Hawks were widely expected to be a bottom 4 side and after a modest start with 1 win from 4 games RE developed combinations and toughened up the defensive line and won their last 11 games, including 3 against GF opponents Cabramatta. It was 2 tries each after 20 minutes but the Hawks did all the scoring in the second half. Walt Wilson, the RE coach moved from NZ to allow his son to trial with Wests Tigers and was offered the coaching job.
