Harsh..great coach Yes never won a premiership but in 85 pretty unlucky. Warren Ryan (smart?) tactic bombing Burgess all day making us drop out. Slippery down the touch line was it out? and got beaten 7-6
Comparing to McGregor....ha..we were still a pretty resilient and tough side under Roy through his tenure
No way is he comparable and his articles generally show a bit of commonsense and if anything dont reek of bias IMO. Dont have to though agree with everything he writes.
Yes, we were resilient then. And why was that? Possibly cos we had players like Wynn, Young, Jarvis, Trudgett, Beattie, O'Connor, Rogers, Gearin, Johnson, Morris, Stone, etc etc
And afterwards what was there? Garry Longhurst, Bronko Djura, Darren South, Jason Hoogerwerf. The proof of the pudding is in the eating. In 1986 we scored just 57 tries from 24 matches and in 1987 we scored 62 tries from 24 matches. Wow. The stuff that legends are made of...

I actually never suggested that they all played in the '85 Grand Final, but they were all at the club in the Masters years. A pretty good squad that he inherited from Harry Bath, a man who could coach.

In 1980, an iconic Australian film titled " The Club" was released starring Graham Kennedy and Jack Thompson. Loosely based on the Collingwood AFL club in Melbourne, it explored a lot of the issues we're seeing at SGI- factionalism, ego, player revolts, divided Board etc. Could be time for a remake?
While at school, when I think it was year 11, our English class watched The Club and we had to discuss it in class or do some kind of assignment related to it. I actually thought about it recently and may have even considered mentioning on the forum.
