Let's just say this happens. Who would agree to be head coach if Flanagan is assistant? Wane?
If this rumour had any truth to it, then I'm sure it would be a cheap & temporary appointment until Flanagan takes over. So Maybe Ian Millward, Dean Young or Nathan Brown would be my guess as the Dragons way of doing business.

Can anyone think of an acceptable reason why the cut off to renew for existing members is so early?

Putting aside the shambles that was 2019 and the nonsensical decision to sign McGregor for a further 2 seasons, why should you pay now when the draw isn't even known. With the split in venues a lot of supporters take either a Kogarah or Wollongong package. What if the 5 games at your venue are on dates you can't make, in the sought after Friday 6pm slot or just against rubbish opposition like the Titans.

Several other clubs haven't opened up their member renewal yet but ours is closing? Only reasonable thing I can think of is the club expects renewals to be significantly down and will then go the the board and let them know folks are not renewing because of the super coach. Exit McGregor

Anyone else got a thought on this.

Testing the waters.

If memberships are down or being cancelled, then the club knows the fans weren't blowing smoke from their collective behinds.
If memberships are about the same, then no action needed.
If memberships are exceeding last year, then McGregor earns a further 3yr extension.

If the first point is in fact what's happening, what will the club do? That is the more important question.

It simmilar to ticket sales for concert tickets to see the big bands ( Neil Diamond did it, so too Cat Stevens). They start selling up to a year before so they can earn interest on large volumes of coin.
One of the ways promoters earn their coin.

The Dragons are looking to get as much cash in the bank early as they can.
Problem is, they still have an idiot as a coach, so their request, like ours to them, will fall on deaf ears.

Why would McGregor stand down?
That makes no sense at all. Would he forfeit his 2 years salary? Fat chance.
Only way Mary goes is if the board cannot agree on signing Flannigan and they bite the bullet, sack Mary and bring in a proper NRL first grade coach.

There are still plenty of Idiots out there ready to renew despite being dished up the same crap every year.

didnt realise cheika is related to supercoach.. all comments re cheika could be a direct copy of mary and lack of game plan etc I especially liked the quote similar to " if you take the intercepts away we were close ...... ah memories of tries from kicks !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
we need to ensure that we sign a 3rd assisstant so that when ( if ) mary goes we have an able body to step in and be headcoach whilst flanno continues the cc job and 'other duties' whilst BJ then pleads with greenberg about having flannos penalty changeed to 12 months so he can officially coach in 21
