Rumoured Signings

Laugh all you like, but if Souths held a press conference on Monday 21 October 2019 to announce the signing of a player for 2021 from another club, unless the player had permission to negotiate (e.g. Matterson) then the NRL would be obliged to come down on Souths like ton of bricks for approaching and signing a player under contract when clubs are not allowed to. It would be a monumentally stupid thing to do.
hahaha

What a greedy merkin

Ricky needs to dump him and not play him in the grand final
Canberra forked out 200.000 pounds transfer fee to Wigan. Do they get any of that back?

Contracts are no longer worth the paper that they're written on. How do players get away with walking away from one? Or threatening to walk away if they don't get a pay rise?

It's not like it works both ways.
Clubs aren't permitted to downgrade players like Ash Taylor who are under performing.

Maybe the answer is to limit ALL contracts to one year. Wouldn't that be a hoot? lol

Lol, a million plus for a bloke who filled his boots against a self-destructing Blues side in 16/17. Fmd the market is a joke, and my club has a reasonable first grader in the 7 on almost that much

Crazy money for someone who’s best position is wing, and will be forcing a pretty promising fullback in drinkwater to change positions.

So that will be over $3mill of the cowboys cap on three players. What could go wrong?

We didn't win a premiership because of Holmes, he won one because of us.
We offered him the biggest contract the club had ever offered, geez he must've really disliked Flanno, especially to get out of the last year of a very good contract as it was.
He will not win the Cowboys a Premiership and he is not worth that much, but good luck. He is a very good player, just not a champion yet. Hopefully he goes better than the last former Cronulla fullback you bought...

I know its been done to death but Mate received a message ( from an apparently close to the club associate) that Mitchell to Souths on a 4 yr deal is pretty much done . Reckons Rusty and Packer want to make him the face of the club on about 5 mill for 4 yrs. Also say's David Fifita will be chased and in 2 yrs when Haas is off contract they will go hard for him. They've conceded next yr they will struggle but plans are for the following 3 after that to be at the top.

Mind you he's full of shit but is pretty adamant this is happening.

Well your mate is full of shit re Haas at the minimum, because he signed a 6 year contract in 2018, so four years until Souths can even chat to him.

Probably makes sense why Cam Murray wants out of Souths then too, should partner up nicely with best mate Cordner.

If Souths sign any of Latrell, C. Walker or SBurgess on a long term deal they will fortunately be unable to compete for a premiership anytime soon

5 years + rarely works out though. RCG signed with Penrith for 6 years about 12 months before signing with Parra for 5 as the latest example, granted Penrith are clowns.

19 year old boom NSW & Australian forward, he'll either get comfy or hungry.

Worked out okay for the Cowboys.

Seems to be working okay for Manly.

There’s a long, long list of players we’ve signed to four and five year contracts that have not see the end of them.

We’re f**king hopeless.

Scared to lose talent in a pond full of it. Dumbest club in the nrl we are

Yep, you're right those so far are the exceptions. DCE is coming into year 5 and looks set to see it through. At ~1.3M until you've got a couple years left why not, team is successful as well.

Taumalolo is only 2 years in to a deal that'll see him through to retirement age and at $1M you could argue he's a bit of a bargain right now.

It's a weird situation that continues to occur.

Loved Lewy and loving Wade, didn't mind Mick Gordon at the time. But you's did snatch Dave Simmonds from us so fairs fair I spose.
