From that article:
"To encourage teams to field their best players, $1 million will be awarded to any club that wins the Nines and the NRL Telstra Premiership."

Is this saying that they get the million only if they win both or that the prize money for 9s is the same as the premiership
Sounds like you have to do the double to see the million to me.

3 hour time difference and they want people turning up at 3pm??

Who benefits from new competitions created after a TV deal is signed, other than the tv companies?
I’m sure the NRL gets no extra money for the 9’s WC last weekend or the new 9’s competition starting in 2020
Next season's Nines isn't a "new competition", it's the same Nines that spent four years in Auckland before going on hiatus.

The only change is to the women's draw, which will now feature the four NRLW sides instead of the international sides.

It is a new competition for this broadcast deal.

It's a bit of a mistake not to try something new with the 9's in my opinion. Adding a few "exhibition" clubs/teams to mix it up could have been good even if they were in a separate group from the 16 NRL clubs for this one.

How about Burleigh, Newtown, PNG Hunters & Kaiviti (Fiji) Silktails? Or even West Coast Pirates with a few high profile invites.

With this new draw is it possible to play each side in the comp once before meeting them again. The tigers played St George and Cronulla once in 2019 on Round 24 and 25, whilst we played Penrith and Canberra twice in a five week period!

NRL Nines confirmed for 2020 return in Perth

Tue 22 Oct 2019,

The return of the NRL Nines is confirmed, with Perth's HBF Park to host the footy festival in 2020.

With the World Cup 9s garnering positive feedback over the weekend, fans will get another taste of the modified game on February 14-15.

Fun is the focus of the two-day tournament. Supporters are encouraged to dress extravagantly and join in the party while enjoying some high-octane summer rugby league.
The NRL Nines, formerly held in Auckland, started in 2014 but went on hiatus from 2018 amid player workload concerns after a World Cup.

All 16 NRL clubs and four NRLW sides will compete in the revamped concept. The men's competition will feature four pools, while the women will play a round-robin.

To encourage teams to field their best players, $1 million will be awarded to any club that wins the Nines and the NRL Telstra Premiership.
"Nines is the fastest form of our game. It shows the speed, agility and attacking prowess of our most exciting players," said NRL head of elite football Graham Annesley.

After successfully bringing State of Origin II to Western Australia's Optus Stadium earlier this year, Annesley said the state's hunger for rugby league is clear and the 20,500-capacity HBF Park is the ideal venue.

"The sell-out crowd in Perth for State of Origin highlighted how much interest West Australians have in rugby league and we are committed to growing the game here," he said.

"There are few better destinations than summer in Perth and we want this event to be a summer vibes festival. We're looking forward to seeing a stadium of colour to kick-off our 2020 season."

WA tourism minister Paul Papalia heralded the Nines as a major coup.

"We're thrilled to have locked in the best in rugby league, playing in the fun, fast, Nines format," Papalia said.

"We have earned our stripes by hosting some blockbuster NRL games in Perth, showing just how popular the sport is here in WA and how well we host big events.

This is another chance for people to get their mates together and enjoy another rugby league first for WA with the Nines tournament."

The Sydney Roosters were the most recent NRL Nines champions, with the Parramatta Eels, South Sydney Rabbitohs and North Queensland Cowboys also having lifted the trophy.

However, Parramatta's 2016 triumph was stripped because of salary cap breaches.

Great news for Perth, have a good friend in Perth and might be a great opportunity to visit. Guess it's a great opportunity for Perth to sell out both days and show they are ready for a team or at least more regular games in the short term.

Great news for Perth fans. Would be great if they also announce a WA team will be playing in the NRL by 2022.

Not sure why they’re playing Friday or Saturday unless it’s because of the daytime heat?

Farce that this new nines tournament has been announced to take place on a Friday and Saturday. You'd think if the NRL learnt one thing from the world cup it's that nines tournaments simply have to be played on Saturday and Sunday
TV would dictated when the games would be played.

Highly unlikely a multi-billion dollar company like the NRL would care what fans of RL would like

5 sell outs of hbf, 34k to double header and 60k at origin. Don’t think we’ve got anything left to prove tbh.
