Dugan in Airlie

Sharks star Josh Dugan has been involved in an ugly nightclub altercation during an off-season fishing trip to Airlie Beach in Queensland.

And the drama could increase with Dugan failing to report the incident to his club or NRL integrity unit.

The Daily Telegraph has been told Dugan’s group of friends were involved in a fight before being ejected from Boom Nightclub by a bouncer on Thursday night.

Witnesses claim Dugan was involved in a scuffle with security, who eventually calmed him.

The entire incident was captured on CCTV. There were suggestions another melee erupted outside the establishment.

While conceding there was a fight, Dugan – who is engaged to Jordan Allan - claimed he was attempting to disable a flashpoint moment involving his future father-in-law and brother-in-law.

“There was an altercation with his future father-in-law and brother-in-law and Josh removed them from the situation to defuse it,” said Paul Sutton, Dugan’s manager.

The Daily Telegraph offered Dugan a chance to tell his side of the story but he declined. Sutton indicated Dugan didn’t feel a need “to defend himself.”

While Dugan claimed he did not initiate the fight, his presence around another pub brawl will frustrate NRL officials.

One onlooker claimed the melee was “messy” and “there were people everywhere.”

“Dugan and security went at it,” he said. “It will be there for all to see on CCTV.”

Cronulla and the NRL integrity unit were unaware of the incident on Friday night but are certain to investigate further on Saturday. Sharks officials were scrambling to contact Dugan for a briefing.
The fight shocked local patrons, many being tourists.

Dugan was in Queensland with mates away from football at the Great Barrier Reef. He had posted photos of his trip on Instagram.

Although police weren’t called, local cops have been privately discussing the fight.

There was no suggestion Cronulla would consider terminating Dugan’s contract, which still has two years to run at Shark Park.

While his form toward the back end of the season was impressive, speculation continues though that Cronulla may look to offload Dugan through salary cap pressure.

Rumours are rife Cronulla would look to shift Dugan and prop Matt Prior if possible. While English Super League clubs have spoken about Prior, interest in Dugan has been minimal.

Dugan’s behaviour has been sound since his now infamous drinking session – albeit on a day off - before an Origin game while in camp at Kingscliff on the NSW north coast back in 2017.

The Sharks aren’t due back to training for another three weeks. In 2017, Dugan signed a four-year deal at Shark Park worth a reported $3m.

Here is your sauce, which not many can click on to read here in bizarre world

Will the club use this an excuse to drop him for salary cap space? I'm sure he's got very tight behavioural clauses in his contract which would allow them to, but I'd hate to see this being a way of doing a Dugan out, Moylan stays shuffle

"And I heard a voice in the midst of the four beasts
And I looked, and behold a pale horse
And his name that sat on him was death, and hell followed with him"

Good to see the real duges back.
Missed him.

Sounds like f**k all happened. If the statement is true and all he was doing was getting his in-laws away from a situation and the club manages to cut ties with Duges I will be done.
FFS NAS is video'd absolutely destroying merkins in another country and gets a slap on the wrist for "defending a mate" who we all know probably started it in the first place.

Duges gets into an argument defending his in-laws and allegedly tries to walk away with them, with no footage, not one mention of punches being thrown or any police involvement and he is crucified.

f**k off, what a stitch up.

Self defence.
Protecting a mate.
Maybe.
Maybe not.

But a couple of things..

If he doesnt know - or didnt learn last week after nelson - thats theres one rule for us and another for elite professional sportsman than hes dumber than we all think.

And - its funny how the real professionals never ever find themsleves at an rsl punching on with bouncers.
Just these idiots.

It’s all a beat up and really nothing. But if we’ve learnt anything and we haven’t it’s that if you punch seven shades of shit out of someone, best be that you quickly self report. If you do then a pay on the back and we are done.

If you seperate a fight at a pub and leave but tell no one, 6 months suspension and career resumption at the Titans.

OT: kinda. Duges is advertising lipo treatments only Facebook. If it ever comes on again I’ll
Post a screenshot

Forget the incident itself.

Post incident obligations is the important part.

The NRL will almost ALWAYS forgive, mitigate when players and clubs come forward. As it’s so hard to investigate otherwise. Hence if you stay quiet or try and cover it up get ready for a large hammer to come down on you.

Was probably such a minor incident . Just remember it's in QLD I'm sure the witnesses would give false evidence

Maybe the club should employ some folk to go out and engage a few of our more expensive flops into a bit of fisticuffs, and make sure someones got a camera out ready. Salary cap problems sorted.
