The article itself - regardless of the authors error of factual information - is nevertheless concerning as there are undoubtedly teams interested in Tyson . Any number of NRL clubs would jump at the opportunity of signing such a complete player .

I am sure that Tyson would like a premiership ring on his own finger and most unfortunately he simply will not get one at the Dragons , at least not in the near future.
He would be stupid to go to Souths, he will be medically retired in a year or two.

I think Tyson is a decent chap and won’t be swayed by the money but the opportunity to play under a decent coach could be our main issue.

Hopefully, Flanagan’s timing works in our favour.
You see if the Dragons had any intelligence you dont let a player like Frizzell come into his final year without a contract. Get it done and dusted prior to Nov 1.
Dragons think all their players will be loyal and give Dragons first shot at them

Wont happen.

Agree.

Bit of a "made-up" story to excite the fandom. How in the hell would a SMH journalist be privy to any meeting between the Dragons and Matterson, if there even was one.

A lot of jumping at shadows atm, and all surrounding our dismal performance in 2019 (especially). Rumours of players wanting out, requesting release etc, are not fact until the club confirms them.

The only issue, for me, it the lack of transparency from the club with its releasing of pertinent information surrounding our team and players.

A lot of these rumours could be put to bed rather swiftly, if someone would just open their mouths and speak. If they're staying, say so, if they're going, say so. Clear the air now so we can all approach the oncoming pre-season with the knowledge of what we have or haven't.

Dragons and Tigers consider Matterson-Leilua player swap

Ryan Matterson could head to St George Illawarra on a player swap with Luciano Leilua in a move that would result in the star forward taking on Wests Tigers in the opening weekend of the 2020 season.

Dragons officials met with Matterson’s management on Tuesday to express their interest and work through a range of scenarios with a view to snaring him.

Matterson’s future remains undecided after the Tigers granted him permission to speak to rival clubs despite having two years remaining on his existing deal. The 25-year-old has been excused from training commitments for “personal reasons” until his future is decided.

The Dragons, Eels, Rabbitohs and Titans are among the contenders for Matterson’s signature. However, the Tigers have made it clear they won’t part company unless they get a favourable outcome in the form of a player swap or financial compensation.

That could potentially be satisfied by Leilua, despite the fact he too is currently under contract. The younger brother of Joseph Leilua has made 43 NRL appearances after making his debut in 2016 but hasn’t nailed a starting spot in coach Paul McGregor’s side.

The Samoan international has shown glimpses of the potential that had him earmarked as one of the most promising young forwards in the game but could benefit from a fresh start.

Tigers coach Michael Maguire is assessing all of his options as several clubs attempt to offload players due to salary cap pressures. Cronulla playmaker Matt Moylan and Titans utility AJ Brimson are other targets the Tigers are considering as Maguire attempts to reshape his roster.

Leilua is an attractive proposition given he could help fill the void that Matterson would leave in the forward pack if the fringe NSW backrower is released.

The Dragons are also mindful that lock Jack de Belin can only return to the side if he is acquitted of rape charges. De Belin’s hearing is scheduled to begin on March 2, with an outcome expected just before the start of the 2020 season. Matterson is viewed as a strong addition to the Red V regardless of de Belin’s availability.

With preseason training set to commence for some clubs next week, Matterson is hoping to have his future resolved as soon as possible.

Souths are also a contender for Matterson’s services, particularly if Sam Burgess is forced into premature retirement due to his shoulder issues. How much the Rabbitohs will have to spend will depend on whether the club is granted salary cap dispensation for Burgess.

The transfer market is set to go into overdrive from November 1, the date from which clubs can negotiate with players who are off contract at the end of 2020. The big-name free agents include David Fifita, Jack Wighton, Latrell Mitchell, Jake and Tom Trbojevic, Cody Walker, Jai Arrow, Josh Jackson and Tyson Frizell.

However, there is likely to be more immediate movement as clubs tinker with their rosters ahead of their 2020 campaigns.

Exactly... These f**k wits, running a club, don't seem to realize
that, they are only making it worse for themselves. The fans won't stand for this treatment... It shows in the club, discounting
Memberships. :joy::joy:
What a f**kn joke..
This is a club, that someone had to" die"
before you could get an invitation to joint.

I reckon a good start to fix most of these player moves and manager swap deals mid or in a pre season is the only move month is October, where as by Nov 1 clubs have the rosters settled with no movement allowed until next October. You can sign someone for the following year but also they cant come until Nov 1 of the year you sign then. Call it a TRADE or SHOPPING window if you like.
The only exemption are the 2 grand finalists who usually play early October, they have 1 calendar month from GF to sort their rosters.
It will stop most of the clubs and player managers trying to shed on contract players and spend their valuable time focusing on uncontracted players or filling holes instead of shopping people around and providing leaks to journos for stories as have little time.
Clubs will think twice about signings cause you may not be able to offload mid contract..(unless overseas)..and make a depth a real focus for all as if you have injuries or people going abroad they have to be filled within your own squad until end of season.
If they leave after Nov 1 cant register at another rugby league club in this country until Nov 1 following year.
Clubs will have to June 30 to add their own internal development players to make up the Top 30.
Then you will ask clubs cant approach a player before Nov 1 of the final year of their contract?
Correct....another words you cant sign someone until they are in their final year on contract unless the call comes from overseas..but clubs will be reluctant to let them out of contract because they have to fill from within unless happens in October
Make sense of that if you can...I know what I am trying to say.

eg. Frizell cant be approached before Nov 1 2019 as per rules, so after that if he signs with another club then he goes to that club from Nov 1 2020 not before. Frizzell could only leave our club prior to Nov 1 2019 if he goes abroad to play or if he just wants out and stays here he sits out 2020 rugby league season here

Leilua is on the rise so why get rid of him? Swap Matterson for James Graham who is past it! Patterson comes with some baggage.
By the way, we need a whole backline as our forwards are solid enough unless Frizell leaves.

Matterson would be a great pick up but sounds like a bit of a sook wanting out of the Tigers because HE thinks he should be paid more. Pretty poor attitude.

Wests Tigers cashed up after Matterson released and Matulino medically retired

Wests Tigers are set to raid the player market after releasing Ryan Matterson and being granted permission by the NRL to have retiring prop Ben Matulino’s contract declared exempt from the salary cap.

The Tigers will have more than $1.5 million to spend next season, and more than $5 million in 2021 after a number of key movements over the past few weeks.

Former Kiwi international Ben Matulino has been forced into retirement after 248 NRL games following a knee injury, clearing almost $800,000 in the salary cap for next season.

The release of Matterson, who has been offered a three-year deal at the Eels worth around $500,000 a season, also frees up another $400,000 of space.

It comes after the recent departure of centre Esan Marsters to the North Queensland Cowboys.

Five key match-ups of the Wests Tigers' 2020 draw

The Tigers have been active in the market place and have identified the likes of Gold Coast’s Jai Arrow and AJ Brimson, as well as St George Illawarra’s Zac Lomax, as key signings for 2021.

The Tigers confirmed Matterson’s release and Matulino’s medical retirement on Thursday afternoon.

Matterson Released by Tigers supposedly tigers couldn’t get a swap deal done yet in the same article says Luciano is still heading to the Tigers and Matterson is heading to the Eels

Dragons probably dudded themselves again
Nothing surprises me anymore about this Club ...... It’s like they are oblivious to the dire circumstances the Club is facing.

The tigers are chasing both luc and lomax.

Tigers also after Milford from the Broncos.

A lot of speculation around players atm but nothing concrete.

BJ Leilua was supposedly leaving the Raiders now he's staying as an example. Luc may be swayed by this. As far as Lomax, a lot will revolve around his partner and brother. I see Hayden will continue in the DS at least for 2020.
