According to Hooper anyhow. Who is jamie Sheppard ?

The cashed-up St George Illawarra Dragons have stockpiled a $4 million war chest for 2021 as the Red V look to sharpen their roster for a premiership assault.
The Dragons have 12 players in their top squad off-contract at the end of next season headed by representative stars Tyson Frizell, Jack de Belin and James Graham.

Young guns Luciano Leilua, Jackson Ford and Zac Lomax also form a part of the Red V’s roster jigsaw, with other off-contract players including Euan Aitken, Jacob Host, Tim Lafai, Josh Kerr, Jonus Pearson and Mikaele Ravalawa.

As evidenced by the Parramatta Eels’ resurgence from a wooden spoon last year to the second week of September this season, having almost half of your top 30 roster off-contract can often work in favour of clubs.

St George Illawarra have not been active in the open market since landing the signatures of halfback Ben Hunt and English international Graham at the end of 2017.

But with so many big-name players off-contract, the club will be in a position to make some smart roster management decisions.

A host of big-name players will all be able to sign with rival clubs as of November 1 for the 2021 season.

The Dragons are monitoring the situation of Wests Tigers star Ryan Matterson, who is expected to make a call to sign with Parramatta later this week.

l

No question the Dragons need a big summer and a fast start to next season after finishing 15th this year.

Coach Paul McGregor finished last season under increasing pressure but will welcome some new assistants in Shane Flanagan and Jamie Shepherd.

Club favourite Dean Young will still form a key part of McGregor’s coaching assistants but Ben Hornby and Matt Head have moved on.

Flanagan will not be allowed to start his role until December 18 with the NRL insisting he complete a 12-month suspension.

All the more reason why the Board should sack Mary, bring in a real coach and then see what we have. Personally, I like to see SGI keep:
  • Frizell
  • De Belin - if he is available
  • Leilua
  • Lomax
  • Ford
Extend the above players now!

Buy the following players for 2020 and beyond. If we don't have the cap to buy them, let Hunt return to Brisbane and have 6 Sailor and 7 Norman:

  • Holmes - 1m
  • Matterson - 550k
For 2020 start the season with:
1. Holmes / Lomax
2. Saab
3. Lomax / Ravalawa
4. Ford / Lafai
5. Pearson / Pereira
6. Norman
7. Hunt
8. Kerr
9. McInnes / Luke
10. Vaughan
11. T Sims
12. Frizell
13. De Belin / Matterson

14. Graham
15. K Sims
16. Laurie
17. Leilua

For 2020 star the following backs in reserve grade:
Dufty
Pereira
Aitken
Lafai
Young Winger
Clune
Young Halfback

We are not getting Holmes, I’d personally take Dugan again if the Sharks sack him, he can fill in until Ramsay is ready.

Jamie Shepherd has a winning ratio of 20% with the Sharks. What an astute appointment?
Oh and where did yoiu dig that stat from
Caretaker Sharks job for 1/2 a season with some players suspended and a botton 4 squad at the time that Sharp left
Fed dinkum.negative Nellie..did you look up his stats whilst being an assistant...cause that is what he is signed for?

It’s actually not a bad place to be long term, pending some good decisions.

Give Flanno a year with this squad to work out who stays and who goes. With Mary’s dire management of players transitioning to first grade, it’s impossible to know who can actually make the transition.

Keep all the juniors. Let Flanno choose between them. And in 2021 recruit to fill gaps.

Jamie has a Kogarah connection... Leave him alone ;)

Marist College Kogarah

Shepherd was a part of the college as a teacher of many subjects, primarily Personal Development, Health and Physical (PDHPE). He also coached MCC Rugby League teams.

NRL Career
Playing
Shepherd played for the Eastern Suburbs Roosters first grade team on six occasions from 1992 until 1994.

Coaching
Early career[edit]
Shepherd joined the Wests Tigers in 2004 as coach of the Jersey Flegg (under 20's) team. He stayed there until the end of 2007. He then joined the Melbourne Storm (in 2008 and 2009) as their Recruitment Consultant. In 2011, he joined the Cronulla-Sutherland Sharks as the Toyota Cup coach.

NRL[edit]
In 2014 he was elevated to caretaker coach of the Cronulla Sharks first grade side following the resignation of caretaker coach Peter Sharp. He served in this role until head coach Shane Flanagan returned from his twelve-month suspension at the end of that season.[2] In his first match in charge the Sharks came from 24-0 down in the first half to defeat the reigning premiers Sydney Roosters 30-28 in what was described as "One of the most incredible victories in the history of the Cronulla club - and quite possibly the NRL." They won the match despite having captain Paul Gallen and senior player Luke Lewis unavailable for selection due to State of Origin commitments and despite having terminated the contract of key playmaker Todd Carney in the week preceding the match in addition to it being Shepherd's debut.[3]

In 2018, he joined the Newcastle Knights coaching staff as an assistant coach.[4]
