Was that the match in which Shaun Edwards got sent off??

No, Dermott nearly got sent off for an elbow on Fitler but got away with it.
Edwards send off was Ashes tour Match 1 in 1994, high tackle on Bradley Clyde. Was a soft send off, he clipped him with an open hand after Clyde had stepped inside of him and Clyde took a massive dramatic dive.

TBF progress really isnt being made very much in most of those countries (PNG being the exception), just that those countries are benefiting from migration to NSW/Qland/NZ where the kids of the immigrants are playing the game in a very developed system. How many of Tonga or Fijis team were born in their country and played Jnr RL there at any age?

Fiji have been producing players for the past few years, from either code for the NRL. If you follow the Fiji NSW Cup Facebook page they often display photos of current Fijian Sevens players and what Fijian Rugby League club they had previously played for.

In an interview after the All Blacks massacred the Tongan Rugby side earlier this year, the Tongan captain said in and after match interview that Rugby League has become the most popular sport in Tonga.

It's clear as day that unless you have a team feeding into a premier competition like the QLD Cup or NSW Cup, you will struggle to produce professional players. Look at PNG, since the inception of PNG hunters in 2013, after the 2013 RLWC the Kumuls they have won 8 of their last 12 tests.

Thought we looked much better when Williams came on. Widdop was great at FB in RLWC. I'd have had Williams and Hastings in halves with Widdop at FB. Austin on bench to come on to spell Hodgson at hooker and open the game up a bit in second half. Of course that would have meant us actually having an outside back in reserve in the squad but we can put that stupidity down to the coach.

Burgess was our only damaging runner and Bateman looked dangerous first 20mins when we played an open style of offloading. Didnt see anything in the outside backs to get excited about, very very avg, oh for the days of Connolly and Offiah!

When you look back at the last time GB had a truly great team we seem to have lost our ability to develop really skilled players!

1992 RLWC final team
FB 1 Joe Lydon
RW 2 Alan Hunte
RC 3 Gary Connolly
LC 4 Garry Schofield (c)
LW 5 Martin Offiah
SO 6 Shaun Edwards
SH 7 Deryck Fox
PR 8 Kevin Ward
HK 9 Martin Dermott
PR 10 Andy Platt
SR 11 Denis Betts
SR 12 Phil Clarke
LK 13 Ellery Hanley

I've watched every match & McGilvary has shown some toe, made yards & broken tackles in every game. Been near your best player (top 3) in every game too. He's worth his jumper.

Hodgson is the only English spine player who's above NSW cup level

In your opinion. Clarke is a better hooker. So is Roby (but sadly on his last legs). Lomax was outstanding at stand off for Saints all year but gets shoved to fullback by Bennett. Williams was good in last year's Series win over New Zealand. Smithies coming through at Wigan is an excellent young loose forward who should have been on the tour and Knowles at Saints would have played if he wasn't injured.

Hodgson may well be excellent in the NRL but he doesn't work in this team. His distribution is too slow, he tries to control all aspects of our attack getting in the way of the halves, and routinely makes the wrong decisions with ball in hand (kicking aimlessly) - Widdop is no better. I'd readily admit GB were bloody awful on this tour - but much stems from Bennett's tactics and his over-reliance on using Hodgson as the main man in the team.
