Spin. The ABC didn't just admit anything. They did a poll which reached out to 54,000 people. The poll covered all range of things from how many times to you eat meat and would you like more sex. The poll was not statistically random/controlled, rather it invited merkins who felt inclined to answer a zillion questions.

From that survey, 2/3rds said that they thought that merkins were too easily offended these days.

Being political correct (aka being polite and considerate to merkins around you) is a two way street. I have no doubt that many people who responded to an ABC online survey would think that those on the fringes whinge too much, however it is very likely that those respondents are not from a ethnic minority, LGBTQ, unemployed, live with a disability or live in poverty etc.

The survey was drafted for the purposes of a TV Show - Australia Talks. Interestingly the ABC released data on political correctness and the anti-PC Murdoch press and 2GB have lapped it up. You think the PC enforcement crowd are shy about having their voices heard?

Why try and redefine what PC means? We know what it means. We have a term for it. It's different from your attempted redefinition because it posits that we only need to be "polite and considerate" to some people, presumably because others have had it too good for too long. One person's offensive (to some) ideology is publicly acceptable while another person's offensive (to some) ideology is not.

PC is on the nose because it's not about decency, equality or any positive stuff (though it claims to be). Instead it's about revenge and vindictiveness. And the Bible says that's bad.

Actually just over 50% of new immigrants think PC has gone too far as well. Is it because they are from different cultures and just haven't had the chance to see the benefits to themselves, personally, of political correctness? The survey shows immigrants who've been here ten years actually have a lower view of PC than the people who were born here. Evidently after the gloss of be-nice-to-merkins wears off, these new arrivals realise that PC means paying endless lip service to ideas that concern privileged bourgeois uni kids and white collar professionals who don't have any real problems to keep themselves occupied.

My mum says the only Liberal voters where she lives are Muslims and Chinese. She can't work it out, just like you.

PC gets a bad rap because there's a shit ton of f**ktardery done in it's name or attributed to it because reasons.

The actual definition, principle and practice is far closer to what @Gronk has said than that which gets bandied about by most.
