So what’s stopping a team getting a bunch of possible soon to be retirees and putting them on a 5 year back ended deal and knowing full well that they’d be paying a lot less in year 1-3 and the payout would occur in 60% of the cases after 4-5 years when they are on overs? This is a dangerous game we’re playing if teams start manipulating the rules to allow this. Eventually a team will go broke.

you say that like it’s a bad thing, if a club goes bust relocate them or kick them out.

This is a loop hole that only the richer clubs could look at doing.

without reading his contract that’s just a load of hot air.

Yeah if his contract says he’s owed the full amount despite injury or retirement, he should get it as both parties have signed off on it. BUT it should be on the cap.

Insurance is there for Sam, it’s not there to cover Souths payments to Sam. If Souths are stupid enough to put in his contract that they’ll pay him even if he retires 3 years before it’s done, then that’s their own f**king fault and they can play with a million off the cap for the next 3 years.

Isn’t this what Wayne did at the Knights? Without the medically retiring part?

You might be on to something here.

Except for the fact that the NRL have banned heavily back ended contracts after what Hasler did.

It doesn’t even need to be back ended.

You just sign someone on a 5 year 5 million dollar deal and after 2-3 years get them to medically retire, and give them a dish washing job in the leagues club for the next 10 years at a few hundred thou a year.

that’s a dish washers going rate isn’t it?

So if Sammy is on a 10 year deal for an admin role at souffs, I take it he won’t be going to the uk anytime soon.

He should be made to stay at Redfern and not not jet setting off spending his millions all over the world.

By the way! I love it when other fans think it’s smart to bag us by calling us souffs and slagging our fan base. Especially those tigers numbnutts who Cleary forget that singleted moron Lauries Nicholls and the rapist who can’t string 2 words together

don’t get me started on St Merge and a few others :grinning:

You call yourself souffs.

We are just being respectful and pronouncing it like the locals do.

You think Souths predicted he'd have to retire early giving them an off season to try and find a replacement for one of the best in the game?

What a strange, high risk plan.

You can do a lot of work on a laptop these days although I imagine Sam will be mainly logged into Pornhub

Some clubs, when they go bust after decades of uselessness and poor management, just find two fairy godmothers who buy them outright. Ive heard thats always an option.
