i would be taking another look at scott drinkwater had a good end of year with the cows with a good off season could be a good buy

Depends if we consider Drinkwater better than Thompson? Drinkwater is younger so if we did bring him over we would really need to think of him as a long term fullback.

I'm unable to fathom why others keep suggesting that we need a new fullback. Thompson handled the position well & he's one player who really puts in.
To be perfectly honest, I'd be far more comfortable with a dependable fullback like Thompson than Mitchell or Moylan in that position.
No need to fix what isn't broken ....... or have I missed something?

Josh Reynolds has his court appearance today , let's hope it is baseless and gets thrown out.

I think It won’t get finalised or dealt with to finality today unless the police withdraw it.

That won’t be happening I’d say.

She’d have to come forward and retract her statement and they may not believe her version this time around. They may try to talk her out of it or just say too bad.

If her allegations were not true, then she could be charged herself. Rare.

If he’s tried to talk her out of it, he’s in big big trouble.

Anyway, It’s police v Josh, not the alleged victim v Josh.

He could plead guilty and accept the avo I guess. That would finalise it.

Thompson really polarizes fans. I see a lot of love for him.

Me personally, I think he is a depth player that is made to look good because the rest of the back line is shit.

Yeah he puts in, his heart is 100%. But we wont ever win a comp with him at the back.

My view is we need players better than him across the park and he should either be working on the wing, or else in reggies.

He should be able to play almost anywhere in the backs. His assignment this summer is to watch 6 hours of Greg Inglis per week, make notes, practice step and injecting himself into the line.

Hes safe enough, fearless and I like him. Needs more in attack I agree.

I love the guy and I think he deserves a first grade spot on the wing but I completely agree with your point about winning a comp with him at 1. To be fair it could happen if we could get a great team around him but replacing Thompons at 1 with a gun fullback is the way to improve our team the most.

If we do get a 1 we have plenty of wingers and if we had a crack at JAC I wonder who would miss out.

Exert from above article

Another name being thrown up is Alex Johnston. Souths are undetstood to be willing to let him go with Wests Tigers linked to the fullback.

But there is a sticking point. The Tigers have no desire to sign Johnston and then effectively rule themselves out of the race to sign Mitchell.

The Tigers offered Mitchell a whopping four-year, $3.3 million deal only to take it off the table after the Roosters star began shopping himself around.

But earlier this month the Tigers indicated talks could be back on — as long as Mitchell made the first move.

The only excuse to move Thompson to the wing, would be if we signed a fullback who was head & shoulders above him.
Fullback is off course one of the most important positions on the field. It requires a player who puts in 100%, who's reliable under the high ball & in defense, a player who's never caught out of position.
Thompson is reliable at fullback from what I've seen.

Players like Mitchell & Moylan go missing in a game far too often to play fullback.
I'm really hoping that Mitchell gets signed at fullback at another club [On less than the $800K he was offered by Easts, lol] Then we'll get to see how we dodged a bullet by not signing him.
[As much as I point out Mitchells flaws, I do believe that he's got the inherent ability to be a superstar at fullback but for that to happen his attitude needs to do a 180* turn]

2020 is a rebuilding year where I expect to finish around 6th under Madge but far from a Grand Final.
So keep Thompson at fullback for another year & hope that a specialist fullback comes onto the market for 2021.

@Legion - did you see how many times Thompson dropped the ball last year. He is also not a big guy and lacks the ability to punch us forward at certain times. I can't call him reliable at the back.
No I didn't get to see all the games. The ones I did get to watch Thompson played well & I can't remember him dropping the ball [Something that makes most of us groan in frustration]
Memories a funny thing. I guess that what sticks most in my mind is that he puts in week in week out from what I've seen. Thompson is a team player & there's much to admire.

Yes I agree that he lacks size & that he's better suited to play on the wing but as I said, 2020 is a rebuilding year. It would be far better for us to stick with Thompson for another year rather than paying huge money for a player who comes with issues and hope that a specialist fullback comes onto the market for 2021.

Maybe Madge spots a young fullback in England who we could pick up for $500-$600K for 2021.
A player who would love to play for us & prove himself in the worlds toughest Rugby League competition. That would be ideal.

Well looks like we've missed Latrell, shame as talent wise he would have been a great (albeit risky) get. Either way I'm glad the club went hard after a big name. Overall I think our squad is solid however lacking that strike back to become a genuine top 8 side. If we dont get one I think we'll be in for another 12th-8th season.

On a perhaps different note , Pascoe happened to say the club has another signing which is hoped to done this week.
Better not be a f**king Souff$ player:rage:

just the comments from pascoe this morning that theyve had no contact at all with Latrell since they pulled his offer. surely if he was a chance at joining at least something would have happened

Probably straight batting it so the media speculation doesn't spin out of control. Makes us look weak after the "pulling the deal" statement as well if we intimate that we were negotiating again with him and miss out.
