The rest of the summer....

So while test cricket is our summer sport, we have no more test cricket and its week 1 in January.

Its a f**king joke.

To be fair Twizzle, we've not really scheduled tests past the first week of January for the last thirty years or so. There's been the odd outlier (last year vs. Sri Lanka for example), but for the most part the Sydney test is the final test of our home season.

yeh true, but I really like test cricket and its still the middle of summer, hell even an ODI series would still give us some cricket to watch as I just cant get into T20s

1998/99 was when CA decided to block out tests then the ODIs. They'd decided in late 1997 to have specific ODI and test teams (dropping Tubby and Healy for Gilly for instance).

Before that ODIs had been sprinkled in between tests.

I hate how there are no tests through Jan and with ODIs the way they are, should just rejig the schedule and go back to sprinkling them between tests.

You know I'd even be happy to watch Shield cricket till the end of the season, be better than the BBL.

Gone are those days as well.

I am guessing that with other countries adopting the same specialist test/ODI teams it would mean that the touring party would have to be too big
One compromise could be that visiting limited over specialists play in the BBL while the tests are on (could also do the reverse for test specialists)

CA and the schedule is an utter clusterf**k.

How they've bent over and accepted FIVE tests per summer is pure idiocy.

For as long as I remember...the big summers were The Ashes of 5 tests. India and South Africa should be 5 tests too, but I can live with 4. That gives other teams 2 test series (I hate 2 tests but a decent compromise).

In the other years, we have 3 test series vs SL / WI / NZ / Pakistan for 6 test summers. I had hoped - and I know they were working towards adding more tests in summer for January. Now, the compromise for ICC / India seems ridiculous.

The Domestic One Day cup is dead. Poorly promoted and not really cared for. Crowds are dead. Sure, the BBL has taken over, but they've killed the Shield too.

The whole schedule is a hodge-podge. Australia should own Nov-Feb and give no one else a sniff.

And sure, it's about money...etc etc. But they bang on about Tests being best, but then expect up and comers to make it in hit n tickle and wonder why no one can make solid inroads or decent averages in First Class cricket. Even with the BBL, take a look at this year's standard. Pretty f**king poor. The decent imports don't really come here now and the sides are packed with peripheral state / grade players. The "Test" players don't even play BBL.

Sorry...I'm just so frustrated. Surely they could arrange another couple of Tests in January!?! There are venues in Sydney, Perth, Adelaide, Brisbane, Melbourne with Tassie, Canberra and elsewhere available. FFS - going to 5 tests, some venues won't have Test cricket except for every 2nd year. Imagine State Govts etc? They'll pull investment in infrastructure/promotion etc when they lose hosting Tests. And Sydney and Melbourne won't ever miss a test, so fans etc will drift away when there isn't a test every year in their city.

And mix up the schedule! Going to SCG you rarely, if ever, see a "live" Test. First world problems, sure...but CA needs an absolute overhaul.

Look, we’ve listened to your concerns, but India is fine with this so go f**k yourself.

-CA, probably.

I think it comes back to rubbish scheduling as it seems to be the usual pattern.

CA imo don't want a home men's international one day series in Jan/Feb to cannibalise the BBL and the Women's T20 World Cup which is understandable but haven't really thought it through.

ODIs should be scheduled in October/November before the tests instead of the T20 games we had. Domestic OD cricket happens then it makes sense to play internationals then.

Tests maybe start in December instead of late November with maybe Perth moved to after the Sydney test to ensure Melbourne and Sydney have a better chance of live series games as they should.

BBL final on Australia Day weekend and play T20 internationals end of Jan.

I would like it set up this way.

Agreed.
This has easily been the most boring summer of cricket for a long time as far as viewing goes.

Just notices that India are playing NZ in a few weeks time
A triangular series with Aus, India and NZ either 50 over or T20 in Aus/NZ instead of 3 ODIs in India would have been interesting

See thats the bit that annoys me, we go over there for just 3 matches, and they come to NZ for a whole tour. It would be better if they come over here then head to NZ, or least a Tri Series between Aus, NZ and Ind. Wouldve been perfect. But no, once again we bend over backwards and let other organisations dictate where we should be playing so that it stuffs up the whole schedule.

Seriously someone needs to have the balls to stand up and say we're doing it our way, like it or not.

While I don't disagree that would be better, the game is a business and ODIs have been bad business in Aus for years now. We have to accept that the fan base has ultimately played a big part in creating this situation.

Obviously almost all of us in here would go to ODIs given the chance, but we're no longer in the majority

The conspiracy theorist in me thinks india want pay back from us beating them over there just before the WC, they were 2-0 up, we ending up winning the series 3-2. This tour was organised after that series not before

Sounds silly from our point of view, makes no sense, but we are talking India here. Money would have played its part

IIRC the last women's international T20 I went to at Manuka had a bigger crowd than Aus vs Pakistan did.

Boomers gonna boom.
