I’m Victorian and finished year 12 in 2004. Not once did anyone from rugby league come to my school. Someone from rugby union did, though - and this wasn’t even a private school. Younger family members have never had anyone from rugby league come to their school either.

And there in lies one of the many problems.

On paper it looks like the NRL spends loads on grassroots but in reality a very large chunk of it goes to the top tier of grass roots only. There needs to be a massive investment in a national schools program, with Grant caving in to the clubs demands for $13million annual payment it took a big chunk out of the grass roots funding commitment sadly.
