I have a Turkish friend called Ufuq - Pronounced you-f**k... I also have a 5 year old son who has to call him deli-amjar (Turkish for crazy uncle), as we know where it's heading if he knows his real name.

Just discovered this thread. I briefly worked with Ernie when I arrived in Darwin just after Cyclone Tracy. He was a civil engineer and a nice bloke. Growing up with that name obviously toughened him up for later life. The family name was actually pronounced 'Wonka' (as in Willie), but that didn't help much.
