Last drinks at the Royal Oak this weekend. :frowning2:

Gotta say that it beggars belief that they can compulsory acquire and knock down a building built in 1813 to put in a tram terminus, meanwhile Maccas on the corner down can happily do a JV with Stockland and put up a tower.

Love The Royal Oak. A beer and a counter lunch before or after excellent Theatre at The Riverside. Eels Mad Monday Hangout for many a year as well. An Eels institution.
I agree Gronky. Going to miss the old girl.

Yeh, It's a bit sad that such a lovely old pub has to go but it all has to do with the width of Church street at the point where the Royal Oak sits.
The McDonalds site is set back and Church st is much wider at that point, as are the points further north of the Royal Oak.
The RO was given a 6 week extension (stay of execution) but still chose to close this weekend anyway.

If it's any consolation, the owners are reopening the Royal Oak across the road in the bottom of a new office tower being built. Hardly an historical site but at least the proprietors can continue trading and a popular drinking hole remains in North Parra.

The Pork Barrelling Stadium in TSV is starting to look good. Pretty sure Elton John plays there at the end of Feb.

A long read, but a lot of great things said about Parra......and well deserved too.
This will be an amazing addition to Parramatta's skyline and there'll be untold tourism benefits.

Lisa Havilah’s ambitious plans for Sydney’s Powerhouse Museum
Few cultural institutions in Australia have been as controversial as the high-profile museum project in Parramatta.

As chief executive of the Museum of Applied Arts & Sciences, Lisa Havilah has hundreds of millions of taxpayer dollars at stake. James Brickwood

Lisa Havilah was only 21 years old when she opened her first art gallery. Growing up on a dairy farm in the southern NSW town of Berry, Havilah was, in her words, a failure at high school, disengaged and uninterested.
With no hope of gaining a place at university, she applied to the local art school and was immediately entranced.
Keen to display her work, she and her boyfriend (now husband), ceramicist and curator Glenn Barkley, approached a Wollongong gallery about holding an exhibition. When they were turned down they took matters into their own hands, convincing a local business to rebuild a disused kitchen warehouse

Yes, it's important in the growth of the City of Sydney and the reinforcement of Turnbull's 30 minute city concept.

Great for our club as well.

The glorified touch football rugby 7's players absolutely ripped the begeezus out of the playing turf this weekend. By the finals it looked like an absolute mess. Lets hope the government reinvests some of the revenue they're getting from hosting 1000 games there a year.

I don't think so, it was just covered for the concert I believe. Either way it looked a treat early Saturday . 2 full days of those mofos digging their boots in for traction and playing game after game in every weather condition imaginable it got absolutely hammered. Ripped up turf everywhere. Looks even worse at the ground then on tv.
