This year I'm driving down from Qld to be there, haven't had a driving holiday for a few years so looking forward it. I believe it's about a 9 or 10 hours there... broken up by stopovers somewhere.

Booked the accommodation months ago so we could be in town and walking distance to the pub. Also a short walk to the bus that'll take us to the game.

Mudgee made us feel very welcomed last year. Loads of fellow Saints supporters were there and loads of us travelled a fair way.

Hope the team puts in an effort this time.
If you like wine make sure you go to Stein’s
Excellent reds and if conditions have been good they might have some excellent Riesling as well
If the have any clean skins they are very good value too

I think I've been there. One of my old mates from Sydney has family history in Mudgee, he bought a bit of bushland there years ago just to stay connected. He knows the area well and that includes the wineries. And of course he's a Saints supporter.

I'm not a big wine drinker so I usually end up as designated driver while the rest of them get stuck into the fine art of wine tasting, aka drinking free plonk.

Although, Mudgee also has a distillery. And a brewery. So I definitely found out how to pace myself.

Very nice part of the world. Particularly liked the back areas of Lue, Glen Alice, Glen Davis and of course, Kandos!

Maybe you could get to the Opera House in Gulgong and do a mighty rendition of our team song if not maybe Mark Antony’s soliloquy and subsequent monologue in honour of our hopefully soon to be departed coach.[/QUOTE]

My take on this:

X teams defensive line being hammered. Captain gives nod and 1 player goes offside, ref blows penalty. Captain challenges the off-side ruling, knowing hes wrong but gives (a) defensive line time to reset, and (b) gives his defenders a breather.

Besides a strip penalty, I cant see any other time to use it other than what I said above.

Waste of time.......literally!!!!

Point taken DS- it could be used as you describe. However, in the specific example that you cite, if I were the referee and the review found the player to be offside, I would be inclined to charge the player who was offside with a professional foul and give him ten minutes in the bin.

That might help to stop the cynical use of the challenge- at least in that instance.

I was there with my wife and two boys- particularly remember the ride home on the bus and the hammering the poor lone Roosters supporter received

That "poor" lone Roosters supporter on your bus, after the Dragons won the 2010 G/F, has been laughing his head off at the Dragons ever since. He is yelling and screaming his head off at us for near on 10 years as we have done bloody nothing while his club has won the premiership in 2013, 2018 and 2019 with a big chance of winning again in 2020. I would rather be him than the Dragons supporters on that bus now.
All the best for 2020 guys, hopefully we will have some things go our way for a change!

Near perfect record FFS!

I think his exit will come via the players listening more to Flanno

- thus humiliating The Waterboy & leading to his loss of the Shed ( the Boardroom justification for the sacking of many coaches).

Despite what happens in the preseason & trials, and despite form & the many selection options available with our junior talent, I’ve no doubt that the teamsheet for Rd. 1 was
filed & laminated months ago.

It’s how he’s kept the Shed for 7 yrs.

But Flanno will be his undoing -

(and maybe folks Gould knew that)

Not a good idea the captains challenge. So you're playing an average game there's at least 5 tries in the game for get referred to the video ref there is at least 12 additional minutes and then the rest is to more referrals to the video ref that disallowed tries there's another 6 minutes 2 captains challenge is another 6 minutes.
That's an additional 24 minutes at least and then you've got to add in the time it takes to pack a scrum a dropout kick-offs so you're probably talking about at least 30 or40 minutes additional favourite above the 80 minutes ridiculous.

It's a depressing but not terminal situation DD- I'm sustained by the old saying that all things must pass- Nick Politis isn't immortal nor Mary nor the incompetent SGI Board of Directors -and when that all happens our large reservoir of local talent will leave us in a much better position to add to our premierships than the Roosters.

Didn't a bloke with a surname of Anthony play lower grades for us in the late 60's ? May even had a brother.

Out of all those, the captain's challenge should take the least time.

...each team will only be allowed one incorrect call per half or per game so the onus will be on the captains to be sure before attempting to overturn a decision. [Source]

It has the potential to save time. For example, minimise captain's asking for 'clarification', which has also become an exercise in time wasting. If a captain doesn't use their challenge, in theory they don't have any right to question the decision. All the ref has to say is, "are you challenging?" If the answer is no or the ref is met with silence, then it's back to the game.

Refs aren't perfect and they are guilty of howlers from time to time, but the players have to take some responsibility as well. Trying to milk or delay the play is something we'd like to see less of.

We'll see how it goes.

Still another stoppage that will waste more time it take longer for the game to complete full stop doesn't matter whether it takes 5 seconds or 5 minutes it's still more time out of the game.

I think you’re missing the point that it’s designed for to remove time wasting by captains.

Not sure as we certainly had a some players that were specialists in 2nd or 3rd grade and never got a top grade jersey (oh for that era to come back)
I might be able to access some old RL programmes of that era if so I will look to see what I can find.
