Braithwaite, 71, will belt out his iconic classic Horses at halftime of the Sharks’ round two clash with arch rivals Melbourne Storm at Kogarah Oval on Saturday night, March 21.

The Sharks are tight-lipped about the cost of the performance but music industry insiders suggest it would be a six-figure amount.

“It’s so easy for fans to watch from home these days,” Mezzatesta said, “So you’ve got to try new things and make a bigger effort and give fans more value for their money.

“We’re going all out with an Aussie legend.

“It’s a Saturday night, it’s Melbourne Storm and it should be a great occasion.

“If you want to grow your audience, which we’re committed to doing, this is the way to go.”

The Sharks are one of nine Sydney NRL clubs that struggle for funds against the big one-team, one- town operations like the Brisbane Broncos and Melbourne Storm.

The clubs has always been in a battle to survive.

“You’ve got to keep raising the benchmark,” Mezzatesta said, “All clubs have got to go to another level because sport is a tough a market.

“We’ll do whatever we have to show our fans we’ve got a competitive footy team and a great atmosphere at our games.”

As if that bloke would be charging 6 figures

He would be happy to collect royalties and have this to make him relevant again.

Barry Crocker belts out some fine singalong tunes.

Is everyone going to game going to wear their bellbottoms?

Outrageous.
Waste of money - nothing against the bloke absolute legend, but they would be better to get that Michael Jackson impersonator. Bloke bring his own mat and pretty sure fell on his arse due to the dew

I remember sitting in the cheap seats on a flight to the Hong Kong Sevens in 1989 and going to the rear of the plane for a smoke and a beer and Daryl was in the the last row sucking back the darts and beers too.

Six figures is BS.

He would have worked for free back then.

Six figures. :joy:
Probably closer to 10k and even that is a massive amount for him to sing one song.

And he'd probably have a drum machine thingy backing him.

But then again where would you find a half decent drummer these days.
