Brett Morris Best Club

I’ve seen the interview associated with this, Brett doesn’t actually say “best club” with reference to the Chooks.

Look at the decade since we beat them in the GF.

There’s still another year in the current decade to go, but point taken....it’s been a shitacular* eight years since Bennett left.

*not an actual word, but the Oxford Dictionary should list it as an adjective one day.

It does look like the Morris boys will get to play in the same team again in a few weeks time. They will end their careers at the Roosters just like their dad. Could this be the year that Josh finally wins a grand final? Who cares you say? Fair enough!

I find it very sad that both bent over backwards to play together at Canterbury and (soon to be) at the Chooks, but the same relish didn’t apply with SGI.

Anyone wish to fathom a reason why?

Coughs....McGregor.

Brett is now at his 3rd Club and obviously does not have any affection to the Dragons.
I note that even Darius Boyd who just played with us for 3 years and recently announced his retirement > called out the 2010 GF win and how much it meant to the Dragons and fans.

Any sentiment Brett had for the Dragons quickly evaporated when he wildly celebrated his match defining try (against Saints) during an elimination semi final in 2015. He has already spent almost half the time away from the club than with it.

He should’ve been a one team player.

As for Boyd, he’ll be remembered as a Dragons’ premiership winner and a CC medalist (not sure he should have received it though as I had both Hornby and Smith well before him). In hindsight, he was never the same player post 2011, in my opinion.

Peter Doust and Mary were the ones responsible for B Mos and then Merrin leaving the club. Both decisions big mistakes in my opinion.

Doust and McGregor have been responsible for a lot more rep standard players leaving too (the most recent....Widdop).

It's only a matter of time until a Roosters fan sees this thread and uses the salt from it to add flavour to their back to back premiership with one of our favourite sons.

If so, just point out Brett’s Dragons’ 2010 premiers tattoo celebrating a win against the hapless Chooks.

I'm getting tired of people blaming the club for forcing out B.Morris and Merrin.
Brett was tried at fullback and didn't quite fit. The Bulldogs came and offered him fullback money and he left.
Trent was offered the biggest deal for a forward in Dragons history and left because Panthers offered more.
Josh is the only one that was unwanted (by Bennett?).

Quite incorrect in relation to the twins,

Prior to departing, Brett was (after years of accepting pay cuts) denied (by Doust) an opportunity to recoup lost earnings with an upgraded contract.

Josh’s exit had nothing to do with Bennett, who has publicly stated as much:

Its true that Gasnier was selfish with his decision to leave so soon after being welcomed back but he did provide strike in the centres that was important in our march to the GF.

The contract I recall for Brett was $700K and he didn't last long as a fullback there either. He is a specialist winger and not worth anywhere near that even in today's market.

With Merrin, the contract was either $600K or $700K and was a very good offer and with the decline in Merrin's game at the Panthers was proved to be more than reasonable.

I'm not saying that the club hasn't been diabolical in forcing a few others out, but I can't cop these 2 as examples....the club could not and should not have done any more to keep them.
Sometimes you just have to let go.

If quality players are removed from a playing roster, any club worth its salt should have contingencies in place to soften the below.

In Brett’s case, the likes of Nabuli and Ravalawa aren’t fit to shine his boots, let alone tie them up, With Merrin, someone such as Latimore is a poor imitation.

Darbs and Morris were never again better than they were in 2010.

f**k we were mean.

Guys, I have a feeling that the Roosters have made a big mistake in taking on Josh Morris. I for one think that he is a mocker. He missed out playing and winning a GF with us in 2010 as he left us in 2008 and joined the Bulldogs in 2009, he played in a losing Bulldogs GF against Souths in 2014, joined Cronulla too late as they won the GF in 2016. Is he going to ruin the chances of the Roosters winning 3 in a row?

We will just have to accept that we disagree on history.
My recollection was that Brett was already very well paid for a winger (as was Nightingale) and one of the priorities of Bennett was to re-align the roster to the cap and stop the fan favourite wingers and centres from chewing up so much of the cap.

Only stain in Brett's career is joining the Dogs. Appart from that like father like son. Funny how Brett tried to get Josh to Saints previously and he buckled and stayed at Dogs only to take Brett and stain his career. Pretty sure he promised him they would win a comp. And now that Brett is at the Chooks wants to join his bro there. Wreaks of someone so desperate to win a comp it aint funny because he knows his brother once the careers are over won a comp and he didn't which proved all along we had the better Morris.......lol.

Also, refer to my earlier post. Josh is not going to do what Latrell Mitchell did at the Roosters. The Roosters will have an up and down season especially with Josh in the team.

1. Brett has played a part in winning comps (plural) with SGI in 2010 and last year with the Chooks.

2. As Brett is already at the Roosters, it’s actually Josh who will be joining him.

3. SGI lost the “better Morris” in 2014 die to gross mismanagement (Doust). Also, I feel he left because a poor relationship with McIdiot,

4. Are you aware that Josh is a proven SOO player? I’d have him back in a heartbeat over Aitken, Lafai or Williame:

We had the better Morris at the time is what I meant. Also what I meant is Josh will be joining Brett which he could have done at the Dragons before that but didn't.

Anyway it sucks how that is a reason now for a release. Leaving the Sharks in the position that they are with no backs is pretty poor. He should have stuck it out. They were good enough to take him from the Dogs where he was no longer wanted so he should at least stick it out for the year. I am sure every other player in any code would like to end their careers next to their bros why is he special.

Yes, they had it bad in 2009 coming last and then 11th, 13th in 2011 and 2012 then 15th in 2016 so they did have bad seasons not like the Storm - although they of course had cheated a few years with their salary caps. Anyway, Brett can only say good things about the Roosters as he is with them now.

I'd like someone in our club to stand up and say the same good things about the Dragons - anybody there? I can't hear you!![/QUOTE
Hey at least we have the Titans in the comp.
Right?

On another note we are up against top four side over next 5 weeks. The coach will be under immense pressure.

The sharks told him last year that he could explore his options. Partly because of the cost for the contracts of Xerri and Ramien, who they have signed long term in Josh’s position. They only decided to block him going to the roosters because of their injury toll.

It’s fine to preach loyalty, but it has to be a two way street imo.

Surely the most appropriate way to 'recover lost earnings' would be to arrange a third party sponsorship over two to three years to cover these funds. Doust should have just got someone to phone the Gordons to arrange the TPA.

Just imagine if SGI signed J Moris in 2014 instead of losing B Morris to the Dogs. Would have been a great right centre option for us - Aitken to the forwards in reserve grade.
