Just on that, two of there players returned home after there match . I guess they can cover for that but how can they continue to cover if more go elect to go home to there wives and families?
Was going to say this, if the comp goes on after the Warriors have elected to cross the ditch allow Redcliffe to take their place for the year. They have said in the past they are NRL ready, let them play with their qld cup players + any warriors players who elect to stay in Australia.

They can use dolphin stadium as no crowds will be allowed anyway to capacity isn't an issue, better than giving certain teams an extra bye
i like your ideas, what happens if half the warriors team stays in aus,
warriors team could get players from qld, nsw cups, and keep playing under the warriors name, cbus stadium this weekend v raiders round 2,

then lottoland round3 eagles

With the coronavirus pandemic almost certainly teams will fall. However I think many of the Sydney teams should unite to form new clubs to ensure their survival. An 18 team comp would be great, however I realise that is unlikely to happen. Regardless I think this setup covers the majority of areas which we should be looking to expand to while also keeping the importance in the rugby league heartlands.

Queensland:
Keep - Brisbane Broncos, North Queensland Cowboys
Rename - Gold Coast Crocodiles (a great mascot which I'm surprised isn't used more in Australia, Titans is a shite mascot and they will most likely fold anyway so the new team to take their place should have a better name)
New Teams - North Brisbane Dolphins, South Brisbane Jets (Redcliffe and Ipswich must rebrand to this or it is pointless to expand into those areas)

New South Wales:
Keep - Newcastle Knights, Parramatta Eels, Penrith Panthers
Rename - Illawarra Dragons
New Team - Northern Bears (Manly to merge with the Central Coast expansion bid)
Merge Teams - South West Bushrangers (Tigers, Sharks and Bulldogs) and Sydney Rabbitohs (Rabbitohs and Roosters)

Other:
Keep - Canberra Raiders, Melbourne Storm
Rename - Auckland Warriors
New Teams - Adelaide Dingoes, Wellington Orcas, West Coast Pirates

At the rate things are going you probably wont need to merge Roosters and Rabbits anyway because the Tigers, Bulldogs and Manly could very well drop off the perch, maybe even a couple of others. Roosters and Rabbits are probably 2 of the most financially secure teams in Sydney. If anything, Roosters take on the northern side of Sydney, mantaining the Sydney name or become North Sydney Roosters. They play games and are embedded in the Central Coast anyway so the link is there, and NS Bears as a feeder. As history has shown, they're also not adverse to a name change.

Souths maintain their name and take up the southern parts of Sydney that you've abandoned by moving the Dragons completely to Illawarra.

Clubs won’t fall over they’ll just keep cutting costs until it’s all over. Theyve just been given $4mill to see them through and in reality they could shut down everything and have virtually no costs other then fixed liabilities like office rent etc which wouldn’t be much.

Many rugby league experts believe that Brisbane and Perth will definitely be the top contenders for an expansion club when the time comes.

Only a couple of months ago former NRL CEO Todd Greenburg was touting a second Brisbane based team saying: “I say they are in the box seat because that’s genuine through the numbers and analysis.”

But what about New Zealand?

There are many gains to be made in having a second New Zealand NRL club. The potential growth the sport could benefit from in the country is huge. New Zealand is a rugby union mad nation with many people not too fond of the Warriors. Having a brand new Kiwi franchise would create hype and generate a real buzz for the game of rugby league in New Zealand.

You could see sports fans adopting a new New Zealand NRL team as their own, supporting something fresh. The talented secondary school’s Rugby Union players could be convinced to become league players. Joining a brand new NRL team would be very enticing to these young stars as making the All-Blacks squad is a very difficult task.

The NRL and New Zealand Rugby League would have a big opportunity to grow the game further in New Zealand, a place where there are many passionate rugby league fans, however still not enough. There is an incredible amount of talent in New Zealand, as we saw with the dominant NYC Warriors sides in the early 2010s. Many young Kiwis join Australian sides because there is nowhere else to go.

If there was a second NRL team, the sport in New Zealand would be become immensely more prevalent whilst also seeing an increase in talent, and viewership numbers rise.
There is always a flip side to everything tho and it’s no different with adding second New Zealand club to the NRL. A lot of pundits think the two clubs added should be another Brisbane team and Perth. Both places make sense.

New Zealand Rugby League isn’t exactly flush with funds either and would struggle to help back a new NRL team. Even if they could do it, how would Wellington or Christchurch be able to get more than 10,000 people attending games?

Sustaining the crowds would be very tough in these cities, especially in Winter. The Wellington Phoenix football side only has started to get solid crowds due to their team’s success. Another risk is would they even gain a following? All New Zealand league fans support the Warriors or another NRL club already, would any of them jump ship to this new side? If they didn’t, who would support this club?

As you can see, expansion is always subject to great debate. The NRL have a major decision to make. Whether they should even expand at all, or have another team in Brisbane, a new one in Perth, Wellington, Christchurch or one of the other destinations that have been mentioned over the years.

New Zealand needs something extra to create growth in the sport of rugby league tho. The time may not be the right time for any expansion at the moment, but the NRL has previously stated if the game expands it would be in 2023.

When that time comes there should be two new clubs in the NRL. Brisbane and Perth may seem to be the front runners, however, a Wellington or Christchurch team would give the game a massive opportunity to grow.

It will be very interesting to see what direction the NRL takes. It is definitely a massive decision for them to make.

There seems to be very little interest in bidding for an NRL license in NZ.

That could change if/when the NRL calls for bids, but if it doesn't then you'd be reliant on either the NZRL or the NRL it's self setting it up, and frankly, it's unlikely that the NRL would set up a bid in NZ (and I reckon it'd cause trouble if they did) and unless they are willing to come under the ARLC's banner we don't want the NZRL anywhere near a new NRL club.

Unless there's a drastic change it's unlikely that NZ will be an option for the time being, but even if it was it's more likely than not that Birsbane and Perth would still be better options anyway.

I am leaning towards NZ 2 rather than Perth.
However, if we could get them both through relocating Sydney teams it would be perfect.

That $15m the Sharks have in reserves is going to be chewed up during this Coronavirus pandemic

NZ2 lol, Channel 9 doesn't even know the Warriors exist. Imagine putting it past them the idea of a second New Zealand team?

We are looking likely to lock ourselves into a contract that will deliver tens of millions of $’s a year less than now. Expansion was always an outside bet given the nature of the nrl, if that tv deal happens it hasn’t a cat in hells chance of happening.

It can still happen by way of relocation which is arguably the best way forward anyway as there are too many Sydney teams.

Brisbane Titans
Western Tigers or Western Panthers
Southern Sharks
Wellington Sea Eagles

I think they will still bring in Brisbane 2 in the next 5 years but anywhere else is a 10 year prospect I would think. That is unless their is another breakaway comp or the NRL collapses and has to start over again.

I'm not really a fan of relocating anybody, but relocating the Titans to Brisbane is a supremely bad idea.
