News Coronavirus and NRL

There is only one thing the gov can do to stop Covid19 and that is to shut the country down for 6 weeks. Nobody goes anywhere, like NZ is doing. Let the existing cases resolve and not have near as many new infections.

Otherwise, nothing they are doing now is about stopping covid19, but "flattening the curve" as they say, which means they know they can't stop it, they are trying to lengthen the time it takes to get to the herd immunity level of 60% infected so as to not overload the health system.

How long it will take to get there is anyone's guess. I don't think anyone can even guess at when NRL will be back.

114 cases today
118 recovered

You would think that becomes the norm now as people can’t do anything

Well how does it spread so fast if no where to spread it? It isn’t like HIV or something that once infected you stay infected.

I am not saying it will go away but numbers will have to drop if you can’t spread it
People were cramming into pubs and cafes up until midday yesterday. The peak is still way off

If there is no mid week origin. Those shortened weeks could be used as full weeks. The draw is going to have to be re done now anyway.

If AFL wanted to play a full season where would they play? There is this little thing called T20 World Cup in October using AFL venues.
Yes, the draw will have to be redone, but there is next to no chance of a full season being played.

The AFL will almost certainly use Marvel Stadium as much as possible, and possibly even some smaller grounds (Princes Park, Moorrabbin, Whitten Oval etc) for the odd game. It's certainly doable. There are grounds in every city they can use away from the main ones T20WC takes over.

It'll be a logistical nightmare for all codes.

Yeah, no this isn't how it works.

Still got the cruise people showing signs of it. Given within 10-14 days you have it out of your system in 2-3 weeks all those idiots from the beach party and others crammed in will be back to healthy.

I do agree it will keep going up over the week but in 2 months though given we can’t do anything should be plenty more recovering than we have new cases

Isn’t that the point of these lock downs?

I can’t see a ‘season’ of more than another 8-10 rounds + finals. I just can’t see the season resuming in June which is only 8/9 weeks away especially as the health experts are suggesting this pandemic is only going to get worse in the short term.
I also think the so called unity between the game & RLPA is going to get tested(due to pay)making any agreement on a season start & length still very much up in the air.
Also, depending on how late any modified season runs potentially impacts the start of 2021 given the need for a dedicated off season as part of the CBA conditions(not sure of those but certain a minimum number of weeks is required).
For me, all the media talk about the NRL getting going again is simply to provide content. The season is basically cooked(as with most sports across the globe).

The players suck it up or they go dig holes for a living

Just out of curiosity, do you have a MD, or a PhD in epidemiology?

Fox must be about to go bust. I bailed on it last night and let them know why/
You would think they would be looking into putting together an 8 team super league or something. 4 Sydney teams and 4 Brisbane teams. 2 comps. A super bowl in October.

I'd probably reconnect to watch that.

Qld borders are closed but not completely. Anyone going to qld just has to self isolate for 14 days.

Nrl could still go ahead with their plan of moving the league to qld. Just sus pop end league for 4 weeks. Give everyone time to get there and self isolate. Start games again.

Yes, I was driving past a pub at around mid-morning yesterday and it was full of people. It was like the old six o'clock swill from the 1950s and 1960s, except it was a 12 midday swill and they were all risking spreading a virus.

The bottle shops were doing a roaring trade as well. People are the dumbest animal sometimes. The bottleshops are not closing, but that didn't stop the rush.

What’s closed?
The following facilities will be restricted from midday local time on Monday:

  • Pubs, registered and licenced clubs (excluding bottle shops attached to these venues), hotels (excluding accommodation)
  • Gyms and indoor sporting venues
  • Cinemas, entertainment venues, casinos, and night clubs
  • Restaurants and cafes will be restricted to takeaway and/or home delivery
  • Religious gatherings, places of worship or funerals (in enclosed spaces and other than very small groups and where the 1 person per 4 square metre rule applies).
Other facilities are not impacted, but will be considered under stage 2 restrictions, if necessary.
