I mean, how long does traditional TV even have left?

I don't watch it, ever. I'm probably a little bit different to the average person but it can't be too far away that everyone gets rid of it and watches more specialised online stuff.

A viable path forward for Nine is to actually do a serious job of the football, take control of more games and transition it over to some kind of online content. Be the network that does the production for the NRL.

Their current tactics are short-sighted. It won't add to the NRL product or the ongoing viability of their network.

They need to make bank in the short-term but all this reversion back stuff is stupid.

Boomers. They still need to get their fix of Poirot on 9GEM...

The jury might be out on PVL
But f**k me he's a breath of fresh air.
He might come across as not well spoken Etc but he has the TV execs all interested .
He has the media taking potshots at each other .
He has ch 7 interested
& what will elevate him to legend status is at the moment he is positioning CH9 over the barrel .
If he goes in dry .& completely does 9 over I will be forever in his debt

All comes down to how much Ch 7 are willing to pay.

Nine only have rugby league. Seven have everything else and need to forecast for Tokyo, cricket, AFL, etc. They’re also shit financially.

I can’t see them being serious about broadcasting League. Every possibility Seven and Vlandys are just seizing the opportunity to maintain/drive up the price. Doesnt Vlandys already have a relationship thru ch78 and Racing? If this is case, you’d hope Nine don’t call their bluff

If seven has the money and were actually keen on NRL rights it could lead to the creation of a FTA sports dedicated channel, they would definately have enough content, and clashes in live games can still just be shown on the main channel

I won't give a f*** as long as NRL is front and centre.

Actually, it'd be awesome not to hear anything about NRLHQ, or the machinations of the comp.

On aside, have been watching old MNF games from 1985-86. The access was awesome. Coaches, players... even Rabs was at the top of his craft with Graeme Hughes and Bill Anderson.

That's because Channel 9 management are using the same management strategies used in the early 1980s. Only ever look at the short term and at costs. Ignore the fact that to make money you have to spend it. They think people will watch any old shit, which is why they haven't done anything innovative on air in more than 20 years.

Obviously we all want the footy back ...
nsw gov needs to sign off on it though as does Qld gov .. agreed it’s overkill but the fact remains the restrictions are in place and no amount of carrying on will change it until they lift them

We did use to have ch 10's free to air sports channel one, which I quite enjoyed but it never had league!

Traditional TV (both FTA and pay) rights are still the bread and butter of any major sporting competition including the NFL and EPL and i cant see that changing any time soon.

The advertising revenue they can demand in the local markets means they can and will pay far more for the rights than anyone else.

What does that make Palaszczuk?

This turkey thinks 34 blokes can't play a game of footy well after the curve has been flattened, but it was ok for millions to line up like sardines for local elections at the height of the pandemic.

Bow down to our genius leaders!
It’s even more funny when she goes on about how she loves footy and referred to the Maroons as her players like she owns them

seriously her rugby league knowledge could be written onto a 5 cent piece

I agree. People are leaving traditional tv in droves.

My family has switched completely to Netflix and Amazon. The only reason I watch 9 is for the footy. That too, we actually stream off the 9 app.
