To follow up from the above with steaming pile of crap is Extraction.

Completely over the top action in violence, like a poor man's John Wick, however I think this movie thought itself serious.

Also a 1, but out of 10.

Avoid.

Watched it tonight. The basis of it makes for a good movie and the action sequences were decent. However the writing was terrible.

Hemsworth is this drunken suicidal mercenary who forms a father/son bond with a 12 year old Indian kid after they’ve said 2 words to each other. They tried to make it an emotional redemption story when a cheap Bourne rip off would have been sufficient.

Also could they have rammed home that Chris Hemsworth is Aussie anymore?

Yeah, after he despatched what seemed like the 7,000th Bangladeshi cop/soldier I was well and truly out. Not forgetting the armored vehicle, body armoured troops, heavy calibre machine gunners who all barely scratched him, and then when gets injured enough he is in a sling thta gets thrown off pretty quick.

And the cliff diving scene followed by a Zen pose underwater.

Again, for me it is an Avoid.

I watched it last night. It is a steaming turd of a movie if taken seriously. But I didnt mind it as some mindless entertainment. Cant say I'd ever watch again though.

Last night I watched a fantastic movie called Annihilation.

It’s funny because prior to putting it on, I watched my first episode of Devs that I’d recorded which bored me. I looked up the director to discover it’s the same guy. One Alex Garland. He also directed Ex Machina which is also pretty good. Quite the coincidence.

Anyway, Annihilation is a psychological thriller science fiction horror, which stars Natalie Portman. She plays a former army soldier and current biologist. Her husband (Oscar Isaac) is some high level military soldier that is assumed dead, but turns up around a year later.

Lena (Portman) soon discovers what the mystery is and the fun begins. Some thing from outer space crash landed and has been causing very strange effects on a growing area. I’m trying not to give too much away.

I really loved it. Portman anchors the whole movie with solid support from Isaac, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Tessa Thompson etc. It’s trippy AF, has some amazing visual effects and the sound design is mad.

The human elements of the story contrasted with the strange phenomenon they’re investigating is cool and there are plenty of epic, adrenaline fueled scenes. 4/5

Mandy - My second time watching it although I didn't get through it the first time, lost my patience. Lots of psychedelic and trippy visuals, a bit pretentious. Nicolas Cage is in it but strangely doesn't go full Nick Cage. It's has a pretty basic revenge plot but is all about the tripped out style. It's okay, I didn't love it though.

I was pleasantly surprised by it. The style was rad.

Found a torrent of the entire "30 for 30" doco series by ESPN, some great stories but mainly american sports related. Just finished an episode about the rise and fall of the USFL, a fall (autumnish) football comp to play out and finished before the NFL season started in the spring. What kicked off really well and had great potential git royalty f$@ked over by one person.

If by some bizarre reason you dont think trump is the biggest asshat to roam this galaxy this doco will seal the deal for you. What a f@$kstain

“Tommy” is a great 30 for 30.

Yep agreed.

I love the 30 for 30 series, Americans do the best sporting documentaries, and even though it’s usually US-centric sports (and I really only follow the NFL) I find them brilliant.

My favourite of all was “Hit it Hard”. Long John Daly. An absolutely epic story. Also loved the 4 falls of Buffalo.

Real shame that there hasn’t been anyone who’s had the brains to do an equivalent doco series in Rugby League, so many stories to be told.

I just watched Parasite.

pleasantly surprised, I had no idea what it was about other than it won an academy award. I love films where I can’t predict where the plot will go, and this was definitely one of those.

Try some of his other films.

Parasite was very good, but I think Memories of Murder is better

I’ve only watched it once and was disappointed after having high expectations. I do feel like I should give it another chance though

Fair enough.

Aquaman is my favourite superhero, hands down, and I love Jason Momoa, so I'm biased - but I thought they did Aquaman great justice in the film.

They dispelled all those ridiculous myths of Aquaman being weak, or "talking to fish", and made him into a likeable badass (which he really should be, anyway).
