I'm saying we're better off without him (Greenberg).

I thought V'landys stumbled early when he came on TV with cap in hand. Wasn't a good look imo. But after that, and around the time of Greenberg's departure, there appeared to be some real direction. I know necessity is the mother of invention, but he appears to be well suited to deal with this type of crisis. Whether or not he is well suited when we come out the other side remains to be seen.

probably like Churchill good during a war but crap in peace time.
The big test is what he agrees to in the contract, digital and next deal and who he appoints next ceo.

One could make the argument that the NRL has got to this point in spite of its leadership. That this crisis is being used as a cover to do some pretty horrific long-term damage to the code in terms of brodcast revenue and digital assets (not to mention sacking a CEO mid-crisis) seems to have escaped many.

He’s quit. No point sucking up now because he can’t get you an NRL job

one of the shining light during this pandemic is V'Landy and what he's able to achieve in his short tenure. I can't imagine how NRL can get back to business if the same managements still in office.

NRL set a date, May 28 and essentially said failure is not an option.

AFL have struggled to set a date, the best they've got is June is 'plausible'.

The AFL's geographical issues are a big hurdle. Their lack of leadership is a bigger hurdle.

They'll need help from the Vic government, so stand by for a review of the "no special treatment" rule.

People argued May 28 was too soon. Still may be that case but much better to try then be so up in the air like AFL is

I don't watch much TV and certainly none of the footy shows. Just looked at that clip on Twitter and can't believe how useless the presenters are - what a bunch of has-beens and nobodies. Not a clue to share amongst them. No wonder the media is in dire straits, particularly when the people paid to talk about league seem to just want to run it down. V'Landys owned the lot of them & good on him.

The Storm decision is somewhat baffling, it’s not safe for them to train at AAMI but all good if they’re happy to cross the Murray and come back on weekends. Not sure what the state government are thinking here, perhaps it’s all about making a point.

Good on the players and staff for making it work though, hopefully they win a few and make it worthwhile!

What’s the lack of leadership you speak of?

They announced that they would shut the game down until 31 May as a minimum. This was always going to mean a 2 to 4 week training program would need to be completed by the players. This means mid June/July was always planned to be the earliest start date for the AFL.

It’s not lack of leadership or desire that stops the AFL from restarting early. It’s that they have completely different priorities, obstacles to overcome and are in a much better place financially than NRL to withstand the economic impact of COVID-19.

Back in March V’Landys said the NRL need the money or it will go bankrupt if they don’t get the game going in two months. Surprise surprise the NRL is desperate to restart before June.

As forceful as V’landys has been, its the financial hardship and desperation to avoid bankruptcy, that’s driven the NRL to push for the 28 May. They have no other choice. If they want to remain solvent they must re-start ASAP.

The AFLs strong, quiet and decisive leadership since 1986 has put them in a position where they can financially afford to sit back, avoid negative press, stick to their original plan, negotiate behind closed doors and see how the NRL go with the restart.

If you can financially afford to wait for a restart in July, why wouldn’t you? That’s smart business and strong leadership to stick to the original plan announced in March. It also allows your organisation more time to minimise risks of COVID-19 even further for players and the community.

Each code has completely different considerations to assess. So comparing the Codes re-start dates is just not an accurate indication of lack of leadership. The motivations behind each re-start date is a better indicator of quality leadership - and the AFL appear streets ahead of the NRL when it comes to leadership.

Shutting the AFL down until 31 May gave government and health authorities room to focus on getting on top of COVID-19 without unnecessary distractions. That’s great leadership and in the best interests of the nation. I can’t really say that for the NRL response over the past 6-8 weeks.

As for the Vic Gov’s no special treatment decision, I’d say that would be reviewed and reassessed weekly. It wouldn’t surprise me if the Storm are given the green light to train and play at aami park in the coming weeks or at least from 1 June - which is the date the AFL announced in March they would like to recommence.

And if this happened it would just reconfirm the AFLs solid leadership and decision making for selecting 1 June as the starting date way back in March.

AFL won’t get special treatment and they will start later than they{h expect .’
Andrews has gone full lockdown mode . They seem to think they can fully Eliminate the virus over there and I think that’s what they are trying .
He won’t let kids even go back to school one day a week and you think he will let afl start there, no chance

The AFL have more negativity to deflect as another recent ex coach was arrested today, turns out he has *not yet confirmed*.

A quick note on the absurd and underhanded attempt by 9 to take over NRL.com. Imagine in a few years time if 9 loses the TV rights to another free to air broadcaster, but has ownership of the main league website. What a can of worms that would be. In fact it would be a strategy whereby 9 could keep the TV rights for as long as they liked. Absolutely 100% V'Landys will not be handing over control of this key asset.

This may all be true, but the NRL has a habit of being taken advantage of by its broadcast partners. Waiting longer just gives 9 more leverage to f**k the NRL over. PVL stood his ground which is exactly what we needed in this case.

Having a gambling man in charge isn't the worst either, you just know sports betting sites are champing at the bit for some action. The gambling industry has it's tentacles everywhere in government.
