Yes although regarding Brisbane, they have a lot of expat Victorians who’ve moved up over the years to thaw out from years in bleak city. So think the lions have plenty of barnacles stuck to their hull, plugging the gaps to keep the old boat afloat.

But on the subject of Qld Rugby - what ever happened to Ballymore??

Ballymore is still there. They decided to move away from their spiritual home to Suncorp when it was re-built. They forgot one thing though. Unless they have a championship winning team playing an entertaining brand of Union.... which has only happened once in their history, they aren't popular enough to warrant playing there permanently.

Re: the Lions, I see what you mean. They do survive on away support from ex-pats for sure.

A second NRL side here would be bad news for both the Lions and Reds more than it would be bad for the Broncos.

You’d think with all the cockroaches moving to Victoria, RL would be more popular in the south?

Especially as they have an all seater modern stadium, handy to public transport, very competitive team, you know all the infrastructure that brings in the crowds (and why Sydney clubs should all have one).Very strange.
Maybe expansion or relocating clubs is not the be all.

Or maybe nsw people arent really rl fans and jump on the afls bandwagon when they move to melbourne?

You would think with little FTA coverage of the NRL, they would be attending the games live in Melbourne.
Teams outside NSW and Qld should do exceptionally well, and this seems to have thrown a spanner in the works.

Well as you well know in Melbourne, the media fawns all over the AFL ,of course a little bit more than you do.And their players can do no wrong, even when they do wrong.

Anyway doesn't augur well if Perth gets a gig.

This makes absolutely no sense to me.
I get that Sydney is not everyone's cup of tea and Melbourne certainly has it's charm, but to live there??

Both have their pluses and minuses. I prefer Melbourne over Sydney due to bars, restaurants and general coolness (much more like a European city) except for weather but prefer Sydney for a short holiday As more touristy in centre. Most people move cities for work reasons rather than lifestyle.

Yet they still in a city of their size with that" availability" you'd get decent TV ratings and with all the other great infrastructure big crowds. It ain't happening.I'll be cheering when their junior league starts producing the home growns for first grade.

Then don't complain about Sydney clubs.

lol, invest in the place and you might see it.
Built nicely at the top level, now needs some serious support to build at the grassroots.
look at all the hundreds of millions in RL in Sydney and it gets 400k watching games on tv and 14k at games in a city of over 5million after 100 years. The bar isn’t exactly high lol

Oh dear.Investment Has been made in those places Melbourne and GC and we really haven't seen it ,at this stage.

Top down. With a club that's been highly successful on the field, await the bad tomes on the field ,the bar will take a hammering.
More effective long term bottom up growth, create the base. The GC had the base but stuffed it ,with going over the top for a Centre of Excellence and then getting the community offside.

You've been and truly showered over a long period with the geography and transport issues with Sydney, but still do the ostrich.A bar which is an impediment for many. You cannot comprehend Manly/Penrith/Wollongong/Cronulla/Campbelltown travel .

Whatever the Sydney TV ratings are, their influence provides the underpinning of TV deals .Whether you like it or not, it is the biggest Australian commercial market for rl viewing and for sponsorship.

Then. you cite 14K ,you need to times the average home crowds by the number of Sydney clubs plus the Tv ratings, plus other forms of streaming. The WSS stadium has shown crowds will attend at decent scheduling in big numbers.

The bar is not that high ,with all the infrastructure, transport facilities in Melbourne. One city, one club, private backing.Game once a fortnight ,SFA impediments.

At least Sydney produces talent for the NRL clubs.

What does Melbourne do other than take the best talent out of QLD, NZ and the Pacific?

Perth gives more to the game than Melbourne.

Every negative tactic that has made the game less free flowing over the last 20 years can be attributed to the Storm.

seen what? Investment hasn’t been significantly made at all at the grassroots, nrlvic would be running on a n oily rag same as NRLWA. Well what that tells us is that top down either takes a lot longer, or doesn’t work. Only time will tell that if the nrl do nothing about growing grassroots in vic.

100 years and still sht support, it’s not all about geography and trains lol. Rid and gets nearly as many viewers as Sydney and is half the size. RL would have been much better off if it had been switched and was more popualr in vic, SA and wa rather than nsw.
