Listening to the game on the radio the other night it got me thinking. It seemed like we were at a loss for how to create points and it got me thinking, With Benji being the one to set up most of the points for this year what happens to us next year.
Brooks is in his 7th year of grade and to me he's never going to be a great organiser or a great half back but other whether you love him or not he is signed with us till seasons end 2023.

If memory serves me correctly we copied out current finals model off the afl and the history of both codes using this model no club outside the top 4 has won the comp. Since we look like like we'll be lucky to make the bottom half on the 8 the question I have is how are we advancing the progress of guys like Madden and the other kids others on the forum rate so highly.
(To me 7th and 8th on the ladder is like getting a wristy an ugly chick in the dunnies of the woolpack hotel at Parra. You only feel good about it because you're not at home crying while you jerk off to porn but it's still pretty sad when you think about it.)

Err anyway getting back on track Do we wait for junior footy to come back and just let them play in reggies as normal or do we dump Brooks and give the kids a real taste of first grade footy with an old head like Benji.
Do we dump Benji and partner Brooks up with one of the kids and have Benji as a quasi halves coach for the rest of the year.
It just seems like we have no plan for 2021 and onwards.

I'm not sure which way is the best but I'd love to see our talent play against tough opposition in q cup .

I think its too early to throw untried kids into the NRL, we are still in the competition.
The fact there is no lower grade, is a problem for all clubs, it will sort it self out soon enough.
I think Marshal & Reynolds are worth a shot together, as Brooks is just not doing anything atm.
But we need a goal kicker and if we have a good'n in the lower grades (hopefully a back) I would be trying him, if we need to blood somebody.

Listening to ABC yesterday afternoon, someone asked the question regarding Brooks as he has been around for a while now. Luke Lewis answered and basically said Brooks would be better moving on, he used his own situation when he moved from Penrith to Cronulla. He used Teddy and Moses as examples of how their games have improved since moving on.

Tigers have a problem with the 6/7. Age, consistency, succession plans.

I'm not saying it's the best idea, it's just one of a number of options. Moving forward I would love to see us have a q cup team so we can fast track the kids into playing against men not boys.

It will be more of the same unless we can get some genuine leaders at the club. I don't think we currently have any and they are in short supply across the comp.

We need to either strike it lucky like the sharks did when they got Graham and Lewis to compliment Gallen or somehow develop them but until we do we will always be a weak willed club

I think Reynolds deserves time in the 6 jersey. I don't think its fair to criticise anyone who has played in the halves for WT in the past 5 years because our forwards have been among the NRL's worst during that time.

In the past 10 years there are only 3 forwards who've played for WT who I would desperately want in a side built from scratch today.

Martin Tapau
Gareth Ellis
Simon Dwyer

It's too early to throw juniors in. We need to play another 8-10 matches this year at least before considering that. Assuming we win half of those and are injury free we may be able to jag a bottom 8 spot. I don't think its guaranteed that sides 5-8 would be out of the running in 2020 given everything that has gone on this season.

The first thing we need is a general....I think it’s time to give Madden the 7 jumper for the rest of the season. Let Brooks Reynolds and Marshall fight out 6

Gibbs was ok apart from the dumb shit penalties. Gavet was good but had issues with the drink.

Brooks for the benefit of his own game probably needs to find a new club,Im thinking Melbourne as they need a half and have a history of getting the best out of players that have not reached their full potential under Bellamy.Next year we keep Harry and the Storm can have Brooks.

Is Brooks signed until the end of 2023? I though when those 3 turds left he took a pay cut and signed a 3 year deal ending this year? If someone has decided to extend him I would be flabbergasted. But then again that's the tigers.

If I was running the place I'd let him know that we need our 7 to be vocal and run and organise the team. We also need him to improve his kicking game, both long kicks and tactical attacking kicks. He also needs to run more which is meant to be his strength. I see him run a lot at the start of games, and at the end if we are winning. Run every set of 6 if you see something. Or just to embarrass the forwards into having a go.

I'd tell him he has until the end of round 16 to get his shit together and become the player we need him to be otherwise he's punted. Time for showing potential is over. He needs to deliver. Of course if he has another 2 years on his contract..........

Inexplicably Maguire extended Brooks’s contract until ‘23

I agree but really he’s not even close is he..it’s like he’s told to “just go out there and run” but a half cant just run.

..He got to a point where he wasn't like the other halves ie he always froze (and still does) under pressure, eg when he needed to kick for a repeat set his kick was embarrassing. And his 5th tackle options were incredibly bad.

But he always had a couple of things up his sleeve so it wasn’t so bad. But now he’s lost those and all we have now is the high kick which has mostly been a waste of time and a couple of small runs where he’s not even linking with anyone..The phrase “beyond help” comes to mind..

.There must be a wreckers for him and Jennings that’ll pay 1/20 th of the going rate ..get them off the road

There’s options there if needed.Benji for starters.Anyone in the club that resembles a half back will need to replace Brookes eventually...It’s not even about being a good halfback. Its about not being a liability. If a half can’t handle pressure he’s in the wrong position or the wrong game.

Not inexplicable at all. Madge extended him shortly after walking in the door to stabilise the club and the spine. 2023 is the year after the club is no longer on the hook for Cleary's bad signings.

Madge watched all the big four except Brooks walk out of the club. Top shelf halfbacks are thin on the ground at the best of times and none were exactly beating down our door, even if there were, we wouldn't have been able to sign them with all the big dollars wrapped up in a bunch of steaming turds Cleary forgot to take with him when he ditched us to go back to Penrith. Perfect example is DWZ. He would have made a good fullback for us and was interested in signing, but ended up at the Bulldogs instead because we didn't have the space or the money.

This is a hard one most clubs at the moment really only have one good half and one average first grader along side them. Our problem is Reynolds has had bad luck on and off the field and Marshall was signed to be a bridge player until someone young could fill his shoes long term. Having Brooks is no different than the Roosters having Flanagan or Melbourne having Hughes/Jack's where the other half is dominant. Brooks is the type of player that just needs to organise forwards and be in position better to kick. So we do need a plan for long term 5/8.

I’m disappointed that Maguire isn’t cognisant of the glaringly obvious that Brooks isn’t an organising halfback.Assertiveness & confidence to game manage competently are not attributes that Brooks will attain after 7 yrs of ineptitude re the skillset required to steer the team around the park.Game managing requires innate qualities that Brooks doesn’t possess.

Maguire should have the wisdom to experiment with Brooks at hooker which is a position I believe he can excel in as he’s a strong defender & has the strength & speed to take advantage of lazy sluggish markers & defenders around the rucks.
