Yeah, I don't understand the desire to move away from Brooks. Look around the comp, there is probably only about half a dozen halfs or 5/8s that I would trade Brooks for and none of them are remotely possible in joining us.

Brooks is more than good enough to be an important piece in getting us to finals and even winning it, but he is not the key piece so we need to keep improving the squad and try and get a star player somewhere in our spine to complement Brooks

The only halfbacks id consider better than Brooks

Keary (I’ll run from Sydney to Brisbane nude if he left the roosters for us)

Cleary (lol)

Moses (see above)

DCE (10 year deal with manly)

Pearce (getting old but still has it, remember him saying somewhere he’d never play for us anyway)

Reynolds (been a one club man entire career, doubt it)

So yeah, who the f**k are we signing that’s better? Ben Hunt? Ash Taylor? Shaun Johnson?lol

I'd probably through in Michael Morgan and Wighton but take out Moses (even if he is better, wouldn't want the prick).

So basically ever club is in the same half position as us. I still think Brooks better days are ahead of him but he wont ever be an elite top 10 player in the comp guy so we just have to lower our expectations of him a bit.

Brooks would be towards the bottom if you were to rank him against other team's primary organiser/playmaker. Yeah, he's a better player than other halfbacks such as Hughes or Flanagan but their role is different because they have Munster and Keary.

This is the way I see it as well. He isn't a great player but there aren't that many good halves out there. A really high quality spine player would be awesome wouldn't it.

Madge did go after Latrell and that is the sort of player we need. I like AD though.

took into account Morgan, however I think he is pretty much made of glass these days. Best years are behind him but definitely 2 years ago I would’ve picked him over Brooks

I hope we enquire about Burton from Penrith soon, the more game time he gets at panthers the more likely he’ll be the halves partner with Cleary for years to come. But I really think he will end up being better than Cleary

Not that inexplicable considering he was the reigning Dally M Halfback of the Year at the time of the signing.

In short, I trust Madge knows a lot better than any of us. So let's see what he does when he gets the squad he wants.
Notwithstanding the contentious credibility of dally m judges eg Ruan sims judging a game in ‘18 which she didnt attend I admit Brooks had a very good season in ‘18 off the back of his running game & much improved defense. My main concern is Madge expecting Brooks to b our game manager which isn’t his innate strength.Id luv to c Brooks play 5/8 outside of a specialist organising halfback or give him a shot at hooker which I believe he can excel in.

Agree that judging Madge should b deferred to when he gets squad that he wants & hence when he has been able to discard the dregs he inherited.

Anyone that can kick a ball from within the 20 m line in fact let’s make it easy the 10 m to end up in the in goal area..under any kind of pressure. Anyone that doesn’t get the yips and start fumbling the ball in the last 5 minutes. Anyone that has some kind of rudimentary mix of strategy that he applies in real time to suit that situation that he finds himself in eg cut out pass, create the extra man, dummy, anything more than kick and hope eg Between/around the legs(once in a blue moon) or harmless high ball, or run at a gap and hope - on the 5th tackle or when there’s once again any kind of pressure

Hint: the level of players you mention..drop it a level or 2 and sign him up

Any actual names for this mythic half that pretty much every other club is searching for because there is no one like that in our squad and no one remotely like that who we have a chance of signing.

There just isn’t that many quality playmakers in the NRL atm. And the quality ones are already locked away with strong clubs

Rephrase ...From the above the required half wouldn’t need to be that good to be better than Brookes

The problem with dropping Brookes is that he’d prob come back worse ...I don’t even know if Madge has got any advice he can give him...Its not something u can fix with advice..Let’s hope we smash the cowboys and Brookes gets back to his scintillating form from last game last year....but Geez that was a while ago so also look out for the elephant in the room..can’t ignore forever..

Indeed. I think what a lot of the brooks critics are dirty about is he has never kicked on to be a great running half or organising half, nor does he show signs of doing so, yet we are paying him top money. He might be in the top 10 halves in the nrl but he is miles away from the top 4-5 and still has big holes in his game, especially for a guy in his 7th or 8th season (the nothing kicks he comes up with shit me to tears.) We know we are stuck with him, doesn't mean we have to like it though.

Heaps of forwards, outside backs and fullbacks but there aren't many good halves. Munster is pretty good but he isn't at the same level as someone like the Turd or RTS or Turbo.

Moses is actually a good half but I don't rate him much if any better than Brooks. They just don't come up with big plays to win games for their team consistently. Parra are doing better than us but they have a better team. I actually think we are starting to close the gap to those top teams. We don't have any stars but we are close to a top 8 side. We just need to develop someone like the Turd but one who wants to stay at his junior club.

This is fair criticism of Brooks. He has improved his defense significantly. He needs to take that step up in attack though. He doesn't have to be the best organizing half in the game if he can just create and convert more points for us. He has shit tonne of ability as well.

that is the thing, put Brooks in the roosters or Melbourne team and he would probably win a Dally M, while Munster and Keary wouldn’t look anywhere near as good in our team while players like Moses would be as bad as he was when he was with us

Agreed Ted, Brooks seems far more comfortable as a support player rather than running the show.
We really need to unfurl an organiser; could Jock Madden or Billy Walters fill this role? Can we make a play for Burton from Penrith?

I think we should be looking at a specialist halves coach. We haven’t had a star halfback since Prince, surely something has got to change?

what are the Johns brothers up to these days?
