Peanut will probably use the demise of Kearney (plus potentially Green, Morris and Pay) as leverage to get the board to extend his tenure here. Our nepotist board will probably take the bait as well.

"Oh I've been offered a job elsewhere"...

Well we could have signed the current Roosters coach way back when we played the world club challenge game in the UK - 2011. But instead we decided to elevate Price as our replacement for Bennett. So we have a history of this.
Yep that was Millward's fault..I read an article that even when he was working in England he talked St George Illawarra out of signing Robbo and rang Wayne Bennett and told him to endorse Steve Price.
Wayne thought so highly of Millward that he complied...the rest is history

Paul Green to be sacked, John Morris to be sacked, Dean Pay to be sacked, Kearney already sacked. That means there will be potentially 4 clubs looking for competent coaches. Meanwhile Dragons will again be caught with their dick in their hands and will come up with the same excuse of “all the good coaches were signed up by other teams so we resigned McGregor for 3 more years.”

It is looking more and more like this R&WTILLIDIE! If Mary can get the team up to beat the Roosters this Friday night, the pen might just be given to him to sign on the dotted line. Oh no!

Yep...If they do manage a win, all the heat will be off Mary, and the players and club will go back to being and accepting mediocrity.

Hi All posted previously about the role of coaches. Great players make great coaches.

I believe we overestimate the influence of a coach. Yes, they do have an influence no doubt. That said even the ‘great coaches’ ( Gibson, Bennett, Bellamy, Robinson) need a top roster of players. Have Maguire and Green suddenly become poor coaches? Probably no, don’t have the rosters anymore. Gibson won comps with Parramatta yet tanked with Souths due to modest roster with Souths. Bennett had the great Brisbane teams and a Dragons side with top players but tanked with Newcastle when rosters slipped and adversity struck. Robo and Bellamy have stuck to one team only on the main. Both coach clubs who are modern powerhouses able to keep and recruit top line players.

Even Mary ( been here too long now) had us almost to the Grand Final but key injuries to Widdop and Tariq beat us at the death.

Agreed Coaches do influence but not as much as promoted.

In my eyes, Mary stopped being the coach 2 weeks ago when he lost the power to choose the team. Flanagan is the coach now, any upcoming wins are more proof that Mary was the problem.

Whilst this is some what true, and great players make great coaches.

The question is: how does a player become 'great' in the first place?

I do not believe you are watching the way we play very closely. The coaching in our case is fundamentally the problem; no less.

I agree but our #1 issue right now is recruitment and retention which is becoming increasingly difficult without a top liner.

Hi All,

I do want a new coach and trust the club finds one shortly. Too much water under the bridge for Mary now.

Mary had his chance in 2018. Back then we had Leeson a genuine 1st grader and strong metre eater and defender, JBD, James Graham joined 2 years younger, Tariq healthy in the pack. We recruited Ben Hunt and added Matt Dufty both going well because they had a strong forward pack who actually went forward. Finally, a pretty focussed Nene who returned big metres in early sets and was big and fast. We then got to a heart breaking one point loss against Souths in preliminary semi after losing Gareth and Tariq when thrashing Broncos in 1st prelim semi. Had Gareth and Tariq stayed healthy we would have gone close to making GF. BTW Kurt Mann was good in covering Gareth loss. Tried his heart out.

Our roster is now much weaker. The forwards are not driving ahead and getting other teams on the back foot. It is true that what follows is poor attack.

Natural talent including speed can not be coached. Players are ‘great’ because of that talent. Coaching helps but it’s only minor. Our own Changa Langlands and Teddy Goodwin were already junior champions in the Illawarra league at young age. Tedesco was a prodigious talent already before he blew out a knee very early with Tigs. Joey Johns coming through the grades was always a champion half. Cam Smith the same recognised from early age. Josh Ado Carr was a flying machine from get go with the Tigers. At the Storm he was placed on the end of a fabulous backline and happy days.

Let’s hope with the new coach ( whoever?) we can recruit top players/ identify the up and comers/ and the club has a financial capacity to buy a James Tedesco for only the rumoured $700k on the cap haha. It seems a big ask at the moment but here’s hoping.

The Warriors deserved all the poor results they’ve had over the last few years. Appointing Kearney as coach was moronic. If it’s possible that there is a worse coach in the NRL than McGregor, it’s Kearney.

Yet Kearney has outcoached McWrecker the last 4 or 5 times we've played them.
