Why didn't Brandy play more tests?

In an era of any number of wonderful halves, he was easily the most talented of the lot.

This is not a bagging thread, just something I always wondered. Sterling was among the best at game management, Turvey had the speed and matured into an excellent game manager, Alf specialised in high tempo pressure, Stuart introduced long passes and kicking game, Hasler was an 80 minute specialist, Toovey so tough and competitive. There's probably others.

My first thought is he was so good individually, perhaps his try-assists and LBAs weren't up with the others. No idea of the truth or otherwise of that but I'd welcome others' thoughts.

Because the Panthers’ practice of overrating their players is not a new one?

Brandy’s versatility probably didn’t help him in securing one spot, didn’t he score 40+ points on the wing or fullback v the French in 1990?

yep he hit his peak in the very early 90s, and Ben Alexander’s death ripped that Penrith team to shreds.

He wasnt good enough... which is not to say he wasnt a good player, but he wasnt on the level of his peers.

Combinations would have had a lot to do with it. Stuart had Daley, Mal etc. Langer with the rest of the QLDers & so on. Brandy had Freddy & MG. Being a spent unit from 92 onwards played its part as well.

Sad to say but I really believe the death of his brother had a huge impact on him, it tore the entire club apart. I don't think we saw the best of him again until 97
He played ok for Auckland before that but never regained anywhere near the form prior to Ben's death. He had a lot of time off then came back but his mind was clearly elsewhere.

I wish he’d call less games. He f**ken sucks.

Painful merkin to listen to.

He’s the reason I can’t enjoy watching replays of the 2010GF when it gets replayed on Fox. Warren Smith too, but in the era of opinionated commentators he was on the top shelf.

He played in an era where natural footballers were abundant, and there was any number of halves who were absolute superstars. Great halfback, but there were many other great halfbacks..

If he played in he current era I’d suggest he’d be easily the best going around. I wish this were the case, because he wouldn’t be behind a microphone ..

Hearing those two cockheads death-riding them all day makes it for me. It’s f**ken great seeing their hope of a Rooters win drain away. It’s the best.

I was at the game and when I sobered up, collected all my winnings and got myself home and settled in to watch the replay I couldn’t stop laughing at Brandy and that other f**kwit. It made it sweeter.

I wish I could watch it with the same humour. Aside from all the tries, it was the howling about when Mick Weyman got clipped by Daniel Conn that did it for me.. Conn came a distance, fist clenched and took a swing. Weyman was cactus and needed 2 blokes to take him from the field, legs like jelly. Yet Alexander was crying through the whole thing saying there was nothing in it.. Weyman never returned...

Maybe he was jealous Weyman has a statue and he doesn’t.

He had a chance against New Zealand in 1989 but didn't play well deferred to much to Lewis which meant Fulton could get Hasler a Manly player in the Australian team. I think he would have played more as a fullback at the highest level the depth of talent was ridiculous and if he didn't get injured he would have been halfback for the Australian team in Super League because he absolutely dominated the first tri series game against Queensland.

It was the cherry on top. The moment Brandy chucked his toys out of the cot.

He was huffin and puffin, questioning Weyman.

Brandy was shadow-boxing harder than Big Papi! Brandy thought he was in a Fred Brophy tent. He was calling him out.
