Why are people so adamant the ground is not a problem .... you can tell by looking at it its nowhere near as good as a normal current day NRL surface with plenty of grass

Are we getting all defensive cos it is Parramatta's home ground?

Players are used to playing on wonderful grassed surfaces now days ... it will absolutely affect the way you run and change directions ... you get used to your foot giving a bit in the gress, whereas hardening mud will grab your foot

I don't know if it had anything to do with the injuries suffered on the weekend, but it is a bit stupid to have so many games on the one surface in such a short period of time. I'm glad they are resurfacing it during this week. Hopefully it will be perfect and ready to go by Friday.

Anyway, a new "tallest" has been lodged with Parramatta Council.
Currently, there are 4 "new tallests" under construction. 2 towers by Meriton in Macquarie st, 6-8 Parramatta Square and 8 Phillip st - All 200 mtrs+.
There's also another in planning at 2 O'Connell st.

This new one is the tallest of all. Most of you will know where it is with the map provided. Just south of Westfield on the GWH. RL of 242.65. Only 30 mtrs shorter than Packer's Barangaroo hotel/residential tower.

Huh?

It still has to go to State Govt and Gateway for approval.
There will be a design competition to ensure the best possible design. This pic is just a render of the possible proposal for the application.

From Parra Council -

A planning proposal at 8-14 Great Western Highway was approved at June council meeting

Increasing the height of building control from 28 metres to 211 metres and 65 levels
With Design Excellence bonus of 15% this gives 242.65 metres and 75 levels

That
the Planning Proposal be forwarded to the Department of Planning to request a Gateway Determination be issued

The reference design submitted by the applicant indicates the proposed controls would facilitate the construction
of a mixed use development comprising of approximately 399 apartments and
5,766 square metres of commercial gross floor area.

Lodged by GLN Planning
currently owned by JM Malouf Investments.

The Planning Proposal has undergone a merit assessment and is consistent with the Parramatta CBD Planning Proposal.
Its height and density has been considered in the broader strategic work undertaken by Council.

Link to Parra council meeting June document

The planning proposal and reference design were originally for 170m and 52 levels - so some of the following images show that.

What gets approved and built probably won't be anything like this. The 12 yo will have to find work elsewhere. This is standard procedure for proposals of this extent.

Lots of construction happening from the tower near the train station to the light rail construction blocking Church and Macquarie St at the moment.

The light rail construction has removed the free parking on Macquarie st

So, if anyone hasn't been to the partly finished Parra Town Square yet, here's a vid that gives an idea of what it is like to arrive by train and walk through to it.
The whole development is about 2 years from completion. An incredible employment and dining precinct in what used to be a derelict dump of an area just a few years ago.
