Sounds like Benji might return for the Tigers in this one. I don't think that's good news for us.

Training Gallery - Round 9: https://www.rabbitohs.com.au/news/2020/07/08/training-gallery-round-nine/

From Sporting News,

NSW incumbent Damien Cook bats away Peter Sterling's State of Origin selection call

Rabbitohs rake Damien Cook has responded to Peter Sterling's criticism of his form after the league legend suggested the incumbent NSW Blues hooker's Origin spot could be in jeopardy.

Cook has been a mainstay of Brad Fittler's Origin-winning set up for two years now since arriving at South Sydney and setting the NRL alight with his dynamic ruck speed and mountainous work ethic.

The new six-again rule change that emerged from the COVID-19 stand down was thought to owe favourably to Cook's speed-based game, however statistically the 29-year-old hasn't started the year as well as season's past.

And Sterling, who is on the Blues' selection advisory panel, addressed Cook's struggles early this season in Wide World of Sports' Sterlo's Wrap.

"I think you've got to say Damien Cook hasn't jumped out of the blocks completely," he said.

"We all thought that the new changes around the ruck area would certainly suit Damien Cook.

"South Sydney haven't been going that well, so maybe Damien is paying the price for the fact that the side aren't going particularly well."

In pointing out Cook's slower start to the year, Sterling highlighted the form shown from Penrith recruit Api Koroisau, who along with Harry Grant has been the NRL's form hooker throughout the season.

The 13-time NSW Blues great suggested Koroisau's combination with Nathan Cleary could dramatically propel him into Origin selection.

"Api has been a great buy," Sterling added.

"What he's doing through the middle there in taking his forwards forward for the Penrith side, and we keep talking about the mobility of the side, is what's making it very easy for Nathan Cleary to operate.

"Nathan Cleary, we keep talking about how well he's going, he'll probably be the halfback (for NSW) and they look at combinations, club combinations (when picking an Origin side)."

Made aware of Sterling's comments, Cook insisted he was unfazed at the prospect of competition for his Origin spot and defended his form this season for the Rabbitohs.

"To be honest, I've learned from Freddy as much as you can not to read too much into what everyone else is saying," Cook told Sky Sports Racing's Big Sports Breakfast.

"There's always going to be competition out there and that's the best thing for you, it brings the best out of players, but you've just got to keep doing your job for your team.

"Personally, for my form at the moment, Wayne's been quite happy with where I'm at and the way I've been building my game each week and the job he wants me to do for the team he says I've been doing it.

"I've just got to continue doing that and those things sort of things take care of themselves."

With this year's Origin series pushed back to November after the NRL grand final, Fittler has raised the prospect of the selection of players from teams that miss finals being impacted.

Off the back of the form shown by Koroisau and Cleary, Penrith has firmed as serious premiership contenders, sitting in second on the ladder behind Parramatta having lost just the one game as well as drawn with Newcastle.

Meanwhile, South Sydney's form has been fluctuant with their three wins since the competition returned coming against the Warriors, Titans and Bulldogs.

Lol the fact they will pick cleary at 7 again means they will pick cook at 9.

The day is here once again, Game Day!! You don't need me to tell you how big tonight's game is for us. It's huge in the context of our Season and a big test of where we're at once again. I feel like the Tigers can be one of our bogey sides at times so we're going to have to be on tonight to ensure that doesn't prove to be the case again.

The Tigers are a quality side this year and are playing some great Footy, just look at the way they pushed Penrith last week. As I said earlier in the week, the battle of the forwards is going to be key and we must match them through the middle which won't be an easy task against their solid pack. Then there's the task of shutting down their big attacking weapons such as Doueihi, Nofoaluma, Brooks, Grant and Marshall. Again, not an easy task but one that we are hopefully up for.

For us, we need a big improvement on the last two weeks. Play like that again tonight and Wests will punish us. We need to make sure we complete well tonight, kick will and are diciplined both with and without the ball. We can't let the Tigers off easily tonight that's for sure. I'm hoping the boys will fire up and get it right because this is a big game.

I know we can do it!!

This Wests left edge has been terrible. It's nice to see Cody playing with intent though.

Cleary is in form and has Penrith second on the table, why wouldn't they pick him again?
Moses and Keary will fight it out for the 6.

I'd say Mitch Moses was playing better before he got injured. But then him and keary in the halves would be to similar players.

Yewww, what a game and what a big win for us! We said coming into the game that this would be a real test against a decent opposition and well, I guess we've passed that test! A big win in the context of our Season. Was a really tough game but we hung on for a really gutsy victory and winning gutsy is a good feeling. Wasn't perfect by any means as we were scratchy in patches and disappointed we let them back in a bit but I'm proud of the boys efforts tonight. A crucial two points in the bag.

I'm not sure how to feel about our attack tonight because in some areas it was great, but others looked average sometimes. First and foremost I think the forwards did well. We had no trouble making meters and marching up field which saw us play most of the match in pretty good field position. The second thing was the errors. We were pretty clinical in that first half, completed well and cut the errors right out. This contributed massively to the good field position. We also scored some great tries out on that right flank, man that was good to watch!! However, I just can't help but feel we still weren't good enough. Things just seemed a bit mistimed and a bit clunky at various stages throughout the game. I was also really disappointed in how we let them back into it towards the end through poor dicipline. That wasn't good enough.

Can't really complain about defence as it was great for about 65 minutes. Throughout that period, we really attacked with our defence, limiting their meters and mostly holding them to within their half, it was great to watch that. The times that they did attack our line, we managed to turn them away. However, second half wasn't as good. It started off well but I'm really disappointed in how the boys let them back into it through poor defence and poor dicipline.

Mitchell: I thought Latrell was pretty good tonight. Heavily involved, great kick returns, his run meters were up, outstanding defence and he chimed into the backline well, especially for our second try oh my god whatta pass!! Wasn't pleased with the two high shots from him though and that could see him in some trouble.

Gagai: Outstanding again tonight! Great finishes for his first career hatrick and he worked hard coming out of our own end. Had some quality runs and plenty of them. Safe defensively too in a great game from Gags.

Roberts: The Jet is back baby!! What a try he scored! Beauty pass from Reyno but then his speed, strength and poise to beat two defenders to the line, it was incredible! Apart from that though, I think he had a pretty quiet night so still needs to lift.

Graham: Went off with the HIA so the start to the game was disrupted for him. However, once he came back on he was great! Very strong runs coming out of our end with a high work rate, he just didn't stop all night. Safe as defensively and he was a threat close to the line. Another good game from Cammy.

Johnston: I thought AJ was a bit quiet too. Had a few good runs but other than that, didn't have much of an impact on the game.

Walker: Was good. Looked very dangerous with the ball in hand and he constantly kept the Tigers guessing. I loved how he was floating around on both sides of the field and that paid dividends with his beautiful try assist for Gagai's first. Seemed to run the ball a fair bit tonight too and he even came inches away from scoring himself.

Reynolds: Shakey start to the game as it seemed like he was trying too hard and trying to be all flashy. However, about twenty minutes in he really came into his own and ended up being one of our best tonight. All of a sudden he decided to run the ball and it looked great, opened up so many opportunities for us. His passing game was excellent too and he had a hand in just about all of our tries. The pass to Jimmy for his try was probably my highlight of the game. General play kicking and defence was gold too. The only area he was prehaps a bit average in was his goal kicking. Easily his best game since mid last year.

Tatola: Great game from Junior. Seemed to play less minutes but had just as big an impact. Good, hard running making a large amount with no errors.

Cook: That's what we've been waiting for! Cookie was great tonight. His service from dummy half was perfect and he got the boys rolling forward nicely. What a great running game from him too as he picked his times to run and he just pinned the ears back and didn't hesitate like he has been. In addition, he was his usual busy self on defence. Seriously, a great game from Cookie and I'm really proud of him. Just need to get him tp do that every week now.

Burgess: Very solid once again as he maintained his standards from every other game this year. Made no errors and got us rolling through the middle with strong, barnstorming runs.

Su'a: A good game from Jaydn yet again. Once again, he was really aggressive on that edge and chewed up the meters with strong runs. His defence was awesome too as he put in a few good shots. Ony negatives were the couple of errors he made.

Lowe: Have to be honest here, he offered nothing in attack tonight really, a few decent runs and that's about it. However, his defence was outstanding. He was everywhere and tackled everything!

Murray: Another fantastic, typical Cam Murray performance..... enough said.

Nicholls: Once again just being honest but he didn't offer a lot tonight, hardly notced his impact.

Sironen: Increased minutes tonight and he used them well. really strong runs everytime and he had a few really quick play-the-balls too. A nice game from him.

Mago: Not the best night for Pati. He didn't play many minutes and came up with a few errors.

Sele: Brilliant!! Honestly, I love this guy! What a game from him. Almost every run he'd carry defenders with him. An outstanding talent.

So yea, not perfect once again and there's still a hell of a lot to work on but it was a good, gutsy win. The two points are ours so I'm happy.

I got right into the game and the members willing the boys on is what got us home.

Geez I’m so proud of Sele and Sironen, both really stepped up tonight in the middle. They did us very proud.

We need to hold onto both these two.

I knew the Tigers would come back at some point and Cummins did his best to get the Tigers home but we dug deep.

For mine it was our best win of the season tonight. We made lots of key one on one tackles in defence.

You could see at start of the match the Tigers had a little bit of the size advantage as well but we hung in the battle and stuck at it.

So proud of Adam Reynolds he was great.

Junior is having massive year along with Tom both very good again.

Murray was well Murray did what he does.

Su’a I thought had another strong game except for an error or 2.

Lowe was average barely made any metres but he had some big plays in defence.

Latrell had a very good game but will miss a couple of weeks I reckon.

Gagai was great again along with Campbell.

Cody and Cookie overall were good.

Mago is a strong lad but dropped the ball a couple of times unfortunately.

Plus the fact they'd both be debutants.

IMO Keary would've played last season had he not had concussion issues but Freddy is a big fan of Moses. It'd be interesting to see who he would go with.

Good to see Reyno run the ball, he was a bit unlucky not to bag a try in the corner.

I voted for Reyno there.

Johnston shapes for No.1 return as Mitchell waits on MRC: https://www.nrl.com/news/2020/07/10/johnston-shapes-for-no.1-return-as-mitchell-sweats-mrc/

While there wasn't a lot in either incident, I'm still thinking Latrell could be in some trouble. Hope I'm wrong though obviously.
