Who will be the Warriors new coach?

So IF (big giant hairy IF) that list is accurate, I'd put them in this order:

1. Wayne Bennett. Pretty damn unlikely given he's ruled it out himself, but (a) never say never and (b) he's still the best one on the list.

2. Daylight.

3. Nathan Brown & Todd Payten. Make them co-coaches, or Payten as boss with Brown as "mentor" or whatever you want to call him. Payten on his own is too risky IMO, at least Brown has NRL experience and could help with reshaping the squad while Payten focuses on coaching.

4. Shaun Wane. Good credentials but no NRL experience.

5. Jason Ryles. Same as above. Plus if he was any good then wouldn't Melbourne want to keep him around for succession planning?

I don't get the Toovey love, he's been out of the game for too long.

Really like the look of your option 3. Could work.

Regarding Toovey. The head coach's job is more about man management and motivation rather than nuts and bolts coaching. Toovey has that in spades. Plus he is a straight shooter.

A big part of the new coach's job will be to attract top-level players. We know Bennett isn't coming. Toovey can attract players. Brown maybe. Maybe Wayne can attract UK players. The club can't afford to get this wrong.

Who can Toovey attract? He was assistant coach for Manly, inherited a champion side and then hasn't even been an assistant since.

The players for that champion Manly side are gone. What evidence is there that he has any pull with players at all?

Doesn't the validity of that report just go straight out the window when you see Wayne Bennett's name on it? The guy has already ruled himself out. I know he talks shit, and has probably said he isn't taking jobs he has taken before (think that happened at Souths) but he's not moving his son to NZ, or moving away from his son. The Sydney media know that, so why have they put his name on it?

I agree too with the lack of conviction about that selection panel. What are Rob Croot and Mark Robinson's credentials in league? Certainly zero in the NRL. Cameron George has been in the NRL 2-3 years, and exhibited that his judgement is iffy. So we've got Simon being the only bonafide guy on that panel, and I can imagine those three big-noters talking over him at every opportunity.

I almost guarantee Griffin and Toovey will be on the shortlist. That article is an abomination. It says those guys aren't on it, then said Griffin was one of the names being mentioned by the selectors. We'd be crazy to overlook two guys who have taken sides to finals, when that's the exact thing we struggle to do.

The one thing about Robinson is he seems genuinely passionate about the Warriors and their success. That goes a long way in making a good decision with the options available.
Good they have Mannering there for his opinion as well but at the end of the day it will be the owners choice and im ok with that..

I think the article is just a nothing article. Space filler.
My conspiracy is they either have a big fish signed or committed already and the article is a diversion, or they have absolutely no one.

I hear you, but by that token doesn't that make every single one of us fit to be on the selection board as well?
Yeah definately and but plenty of us have our own ideas on who is best fit whether it be players or coach......and if we were the owner it would be our final say.
I feel sometimes you can over complicate things with too many opinions.

If we bought our seat like Robinson did, we'd be there already

That's kinda my point. 3 of the 4 guys on that panel, as of whenever George was appointed (2.5 years ago?) had zero league experience, or at least zero professional league experience. Now they're charged with appointing our new coach, 9 years on and one finals match on from our last successful year.

Another one rules himself out...

https://www.smh.com.au/sport/nrl/wh...in-snap-against-panthers-20200711-p55b8a.html

The Warriors have interviewed candidates for the head coaching job in recent days. But a significant name was missing from the list, Nathan Brown.

The former Dragons and Knights coach is a rebuild specialist and has a relationship with Warriors owner Mark Robinson. But Brown has decided to pursue options in other areas. ‘‘The Warriors coaching role is a wonderful opportunity,’’ Brown said. ‘‘For me personally, that role doesn’t fit at this stage.’’

I've read by someone connected to the club that Brown wasn't even on the "list".

TBH I think Payten will just get a 1 year deal. There just isn't enough quality out there. Mark Robinson is around the club for the next few weeks, I'm sure he'll be trying to get of a sense of how Todd operates. He's saying the right things, getting rid of the sook/poor us attitude Kearney seemed to endorse.

More names in contention according to the Herald yesterday - Anthony Griffin, Neil Henry, Tim Sheens.

Dean Pay might be on the market soon too...

Yip, reporting he will be announcing that he is quitting some time today.

This might give those in charge a bit of a wriggle on in regards to deciding what they want to do with our next coach

Considering the he quit yesterday, I would say he is on the market.

But no. Don't want him.

I'm really not overly inspired with the list. If only Bellamy would come.

was googling Griffin yesterday to find the reason for his demise at Panthers.
Hard to know what to believe. One article says it was a falling out with Gould, another that he lost the locker room, another that he was too old school and didnt delegate enough.

I really think the club should have approached Gould to take a role in the selection and recruiting process.
He has the reputation & contacts and can attract new talent.
