Bulldogs-bound Lafai to become next Dragon to depart

Tim Lafai is set for a Canterbury homecoming that could result in him playing against St George Illawarra next weekend.

Lafai is poised to become the latest Dragon to leave the club before his contract expires, following the likes of James Graham and Issac Luke in recent weeks. Winger Jason Saab has also been agitating for a release, while Tristan Sailor is frustrated by a lack of opportunities at the Red V.

Lafai began his NRL career at the Bulldogs, where he made 74 first-grade appearances. The blue and whites are attempting to bolster their back line and are keen for him to join immediately. The deal is for the rest of 2020 with the potential for a longer arrangement if he settles in at Belmore.

If the Dragons can reach a termination settlement before Tuesday’s team lists are named, Lafai could face his former club in next Saturday’s clash between the sides at WIN Stadium.

The Bulldogs are also eyeing Canberra’s Nick Cotric for next year, and are hopeful of retaining off-contract stars Adam Elliott and Kieran Foran.

The Red V continue to consider replacements for English international Graham, with Penrith’s Kaide Ellis on the shortlist.

Yep just found out he is going back to the kennel. Seen him play for DOGS way back he was a standout then. We got him didn't get me going did he have a knee op that slowed him down apart from a loser of a coach. Goodluck Tim.

We have only 24 to choose from when we are supposed to have 30.
We won't use all 30 but how about we replace the ones we let go.
Graham,Luke, lafai gone and jdb still on the books.

That'll be Super coach's next excuse as to why we continue to under perform.

With Millward and Mary in charge, there will never be sound management of players on and off the field. I say the CEO should place is thumb on the scales and bring order SGI Club management. Don't get me wrong, Lafai, Graham and Luke departing is a good thing however, the bad thing is that replacements were not made. Surely we now have the salary cap to secure a couple of marquee players and if the player list was managed properly, a few more good first grade recruits for 2021.

I have said before and it is now showing to be true, drop the players we do not want to keep to reserve grade and their managers will quickly move to find them another club. Lafai, Pearson, Saab, Robson are just a few examples and Graham could see the day he would be over-looked as well.

Our seaon is over, why not drop the players we do not want to keep and test potential first-graders for the remainder of the season. Other clubs manage to take players on loan and sign players for the remainder of the season while Millward sits there twiddling his thumbs.

Being content to field non-performing players like Aitken, Norman and Hunt together with average players like Dufty, Pereira, Ravalawa, Lawrie and Merrin is just laziness on the part of our two Illawarra incompetent managers, Millward and Mary.

Why not go and find the top players and secure them this year for season 2021 or heaven forbid take on loan replacements for Graham and De Belin as a means of testing them for a future contract.

I honestly try to fathom the reasoning for the way we are managing our roster and apart from the most obvious reason of incompetence, the only other reason could be the want to pay some over-paid players front-ended payments in order to make them more affordable in the future years.

Looks like Flanagan is ridding the team of Mary's failed favorites. The next cab of the rank should be Aitken. Drop him to reserve grade and his manager will soon find him another gig.

Clune looks like a keeper. Then we have Dufty, Sailor, and Sullivan who I believe could all have the potential to be good first-grade five-eights. So I would drop both Norman and Hunt to reserve grade, hoping their manager would find them a new club either on a swap basis or a no-cost release.

So with James gone, Frizell on his way, and De Belin in doubt, we have over 3m to spend on 3 marquee players; an outside back/fullback, a prop and a back-row forward. Given that we would be left with a low cost 17 as it stands, there is no reason why recruiting 3 marquee players is beyond our capacity.
1. Ramsey or Dufty or Lomax - all under contract
2. Feagai or Pereira or Ravalawa - all under contract
3. Lomax - under contract
4. Williame or Feagai - both under contract
5. Saab or Ravalawa - bot under contract
6. Sailor or Dufty or Sullivan - all under contract
7. Clune or Sullivan - both under contract
8. Kerr or Lawrie or Merrin - all under contract
9. McInnes - under contract
10. Vaughan - under contract
11. T Sims or Ford - under contract
12. Fuimaono or Host - under contract
13. De Belin - may need a replacment

14. Laurie
15. Merrin
16. Ford
17. Brittain

So new marquee players could be used in the following positions:
Prop
Backrow
Fullback/Left-centre
