I am picking them to sign Anthony Griffin.

They need someone to come in, set a culture and work ethic. Rebuild the club with no nonsense football types.

He'd be good for three years, like he was with us.

He did but that was a transitional year for that 20s team. The players that formed the core of each of those dominant 20s sides were either moved up to reserves and first grade or still playing SG ball and Harold matts. Just before he took over that side Waqa, Dallin, Yeo, RCG, plus the hooker and fullback from that team(forgot names) all moved up to reserve grade or first grade. Guys like Cleary,May, Luai, Egan, etc were not yet ready to play 20s. Barrett had CHN and JFH just coming into the 20s as young guys playing up plus a lot of guys who have not gone on to have NRL careers. Not making excuses for him but that squad just wasnt in the class of the 2013 squad or the 2015 squad.
CHN,Soni Luke,Tyrone May,Soni Hala & Oliver Clarke played a few games in that Barrett squad including the draw with a strong Warriors team that saw us miss the 8 and the Warriors go on to win the comp from 8th position.

Though those players were playing a few years up

Agree with most people here, the Dogs need a coach that can rebuild. Trent Barrett would be a good coach to take over from someone like Griffin or Nathan Brown in a few years time to take them up a level when all the foundations have been made.

That must've been after SG ball finished, I think CHN moved up before then I remember Barrett talking about him in an interview. If he had the 2013 squad or the 2015 squad he wouldve done much better, I couldve coached those teams to a premiership. In 2013 we still had James Roberts playing NYC games for us that squad had so much talent but like 8 or 9 starters were gone after that year from the NYC team.

The reason I see for them wanting Barrett is their Salary cap is about to be in a good position to sign players and he has a connection to our talent. We've got a few fringe guys ready for the NRL that are better than what they have. Top of the list:

Burton
Lenui
Burns
Staines

It was,I was at that game and the Warriors scored last minute and converted from sideline to get the draw which saw them tie with us on 8th. They advanced to finals on better for and against and won the comp.

I can remember being bitterly disappointed about the result but I cant remember the game. He probably should've done better with the NYC team that year but any team that loses most of their starters from the previous year is always going to take some time to get them playing good footy.

Forgot Hetherington and add Crichton who they have tried to get.

2 props, a half, a fullback, a second rower and centre for modest $$$

It should be a simple matter to tie up the players we want to keep, and certainly the Bulldogs could be made to enter an undertaking not to sign players we want to keep prior to releasing Barrett. Blokes like Tamou and Sauce would certainly bolster their side though.

Given that we are doing the right thing by Barett and letting him speak with the dogs i dont think he will f**k us by recruiting our young guys. He will still be employed here until seasons end at the very least so we just have to sign them up before next season. I mean we are going to lose some of them eventually simply because you cant keep them all. By next season if he is coaching the doggies its on us to keep the ones that are most important. Kids like Spencer and Crichton are not going anywhere, those two are probably top of the list with Staines and Burton next. Not sure about their current contracts but we should be able to keep them unless they really want to leave.

While im sure most assistants would jump at the chance to coach the dogs(or any other NRL side) going to a rebuilding/struggling team as a player is a bit different. We have a very happy and close squad right now who are really performing well, the players should want to be here rather than a club that is anchored to the bottom of the comp. There are 16 head coaching contracts in the NRL so if that is your goal you jump at any chance basically, but i see it as a bit different for players.

If a couple of guys here want to leave because (they think) they aren't getting an opportunity or want more money, he should have every right to sign them imo. It's a business, we aren't going to keep them all regardless & he'll have to look after himself & his club.

Different kettle of fish if he's approaching players that are contracted for the next couple of seasons.

Definitely. We'd probably have a few we could afford to send to help him in all honesty. We have nearly 2 teams of talent with, as frog said, some experience who are getting to redundancy.

Yes i could image the Roosters and Uncle Nick being all fine with a situation like this....yeah take who you like LOL. Seriouly should be escorted out by security as soon as hes agreed .Dont get me wrong Trent has done a great job with us but the dogs are last with one win they are a true 5yr plan... people will squeal like pigs on here if he takes young talent that we developed .

Jason Taylor was one of Robinsons assistants when he was announced as the tigers coach for the next season and the re-hired by the roosters when the tigers sacked him.

We have thirteen players off contract at the end of 2021. Our club has plenty of time to make decisions on players we want to keep. I am confident we will keep most of the players we want to keep.

Not sure why Trent gets all the credit for our attack. I think Api has been the biggest difference in improving our attack.

He actually runs from dummy half. Has turned our pack into one of the best and our halves and backs are usually playing with momentum and space.

Im sure Trent has helped to some degree. But if we had Katoa or Egan at hooker we probably sit at the bottom of the ladder instead of the top.

Api has been a huge difference no doubt, but I think Trent has put the polish on the side. Tommy Turbo said he can see Barretts hands all over the way we are attacking this year. I think we will be fine though there are plenty of guys out there who can be good tacticians if we need one after Trent. The hard part about being the head coach is creating the culture and work ethic in the side and managing egos.

Also I wasn't saying it out of a sense of freaking out more why would they pick Barret over someone like Griffin who has a 50%+ win record and coached in a rebuild before.

I see why you say that but I also think the criticism the Bulldogs are taking & will continue to take re; treatment of Pay, will probably benefit the incoming coach & how they treat him.

I'd also think the Bulldogs & there supporters realise it's likely a 2 - 3 year job just to get them competing for the 8, so I think he'll get a bit of leeway & lower expectations. $3M in the kitty helps too.

It will be a 2 coach job. Someone like Brown or Hook to get to a level. Then someone else to finish it.

The guys they have there aren't improving they pretty much need a whole new roster which takes time
