Our Limp Forwards

Got to say.
There's your problem....
They have very little or no punch.
They are slow up to the line and have no ball skill.
No wonder our halves are finding it dificult.
There is no forward progress and they are standing on top of one another.
We are in this position for a reason.
Time for the players to man up a take responsibility for their own in-action.

No I don't agree. They're not limp at all. I don't think they're being managed correctly by the coaching staff. I'd be starting Kerr and Vaughan together and rotate with Blacker in the front row to lay a platform from the start. The back row should not be just considered battering rams but challenged to support these three and look for offloads and be hole runners. Combine that with halves that can read a game and change mid-game to suit the circumstances and we become a chance. The game has changed be we haven't.

I'd happily take our entire forward pack be mongrel battering rams for the first half, what a change that would be.

We need a JWH / Tapau / Paulo / Papalii type player.

A hard nut who are just a little unhinged.

I like our forwards, but that could be the problem. They’re easy to like because they are too nice.

They need to be angrier.

My solution:
- Vaughan: Tell him Ricky Stuart is laughing at him.
- Kerr: Tell him he’s off to reserve grade unless he steamrolls two players each week
- Laurie: Make him watch the Broncos semi from 2018. But make sure he’s watching it clockwork orange style.
- Frizell: Tell him he won’t be missed.
- T. Sims: Steal his dog
- K. Sims: See Laurie. Then tell him he’s the lesser Sims & if he can beat Tariq this year he can have his dog.
- McInness: Tell him to hit the gym. Then steal his dog too. But tell him that a referee did it.
- Fuimaono: Keep doing what you’re doing.
- Merrin: Show highlights of the women’s surfing tour
- Ford: Tell him he’s a just poor man’s Coen Hess

Our forwards are not big and intimidating enough. They lack punch in attack and mongrel in defence and are not feared by opposition players in the slightest.

Until we sign a couple of big and powerful guys who have some brains as well (not too many available that would want to come to our club though), we need to manage what we have got and I agree with Dragons4me that Kerr and Vaughn should start and Blacker rotate with them.

Oh for some hard running giants!

It is time for Millward to man-up and resign!

No marquee forwards signed to replace Graham, Frizell and De Belin.
No marquee players in our back 5.
Two top-grade hookers, one who is on top money.
Norman and Aitken who have not performed to standard for many games.

Frizell 600k
Graham 600k
De Belin 600k
Aitken 400k

That is 2.2m per season available to hire players who can make a difference. I mean last years wooden spooners can make a better case than Millward for Fifita's signature.

I say sack Mary and Millward right now! That will take care of half our problems at least.

So many have pointed this problem out of late , whether it be a lack of desire , instruction from he who gives the players their game plan or mere mongrel it’s becoming painful to watch them behave so meekly .

The Dragons do need a few big , bad bods in the pack , forwards who know their job and ply their trade with the same enthusiasm as any of the top teams - no beg-your- pardon forwards and finally with a coach who is able to instill the killer instinct into his players .

A big ask considering the mind-set of the J.V hierarchy , what we are asking for is certainly what is required to get our mob to breath fire once again , but at the end of the day it all rests with what ever meandering board considers is right .

Spot on DD- it was almost a repeat of the Bulldogs game ie a game of three thirds- in the middle third we were monstered by the Sharks bigger pack and had no ball - a losing combination. Thought we were harshly treated as the Sharks were offside all night and we hardly got a repeat set.

We finished the stronger as we did against the Bulldogs so hats off to the strength and conditioning staff but a priority for 2021 has to be at least one bulldozing prop. The Sharks obviously have better talent spotters than we have to sign up Hunt, Hamlin -Uele and Rudolph beyond this year- in addition to Woods and Fifita.

Agree..

We should be delving into our history to inspire the present..

Back when the broncos went back to back, we had it within us to not be overawed by the big names..

To have our forward pack stand up and show dominance..

To show the reigning premiers that no, they weren’t getting their way, even at home.

Our current forwards need to watch this:

If you think we have limp forwards now, wait til next year without Frizz.

Sure Millward will sign someone to replace Frizz but more than likely a reserve/fringe/plodder from another club that isn't wanted.

We only ever recruit rejects or pay way overs.

Vaughan has been wonderful the last few games but the rest of our pack, by and large, have been less than inspiring. Cam gives his all and is more effective as a ball running forward than I thought he would, and he always produces in defence. Hunt has improved playing hooker and his kicking game is far more effective. His confidence seems to have grown. Lawrie is physically strong but seems unable to pass the ball and lacks the ability to react quickly in defence. He is young and he might grow as a player but he reminds me of a 1980s style prop. It is 2020. Tariq was brilliant in 2018, but that player seems to have disappeared. Tyson is trying but seems tired. Kerr, while I am pleased we have kept him, always seems to not quite reach the level his physical strength and pace would indicate he can achieve. He always seems hesitant rather than intimidating. That may change. Host simply has not developed and has been hindered by injuries and poorly utilised. Ford may meet some of the expectations placed on him but, as yet, he lacks physicality. Merrin has been good with offloads but is not as mobile as he once was. Fui possesses a strong physical presence on the field and a reasonably good turn of speed, but he often makes poor decisions, albeit always enthusiastically. Overall we have a willing but not an intimidating pack. We are down at least one strike forward. JDB would have been that forward, but we won’t go there.....
