Yet the PRs of this world ignore the fact Govts like Qld suck up to the AFL.On that basis ,I'd rather have a street fighting head of the NRL who will take it up to Govts and push the game forward, than some mealy mouthed CEOs we've had in the past yes men.
This AFL G/F issue has made getting a 2nd Brisbane NRL team an absolute necessity. If you lose heartland you are snookered big time.
Rothfield and knobhead Crawley are more concerned with their clickbait hits to have any idea that AFL is taking government money at will to fund and prop up those debt ridden expansion teams.
PVL is the man to win the battle. Time for these journos to stop telling us why we can’t have another team and get it done. As PVL said the other night, another team gives more kids a pathway and opportunity.
I am under the impression he just wants to get the next 8 weeks done to complete the season, produce a big time origin series then layout the plan for 2023 onwards

I don’t ignore anything, the question you have to ask is why?
Here’s an idea, maybe because the afl actually works hard to build relationships with governments, unlike vlandys who tells them they are a waste of NRL’s time and money?
we spend what little time And resource we invest thinking about expansion to consolidate whilst they spend it To expand, continually keeping us reactive and on the back foot. The end game is inevitable If we continue down this path.

RL must be really reallly weak in Brisbane if you think holding a one off grand final there is going to convert them to afl lol you think the afl stressed at us taking origin to afl cities? They would have barely talked about it.

Its not about RL being weak in Brisbane is about the attitude of letting another code walk into the heartland, tell lies about ratings and participation that are never questioned while sitting back as a heartland with the exact same number of professional teams as your rival.

where have you seen the claim they rate higher than nrl? All I’ve seen is their claim that fta is up 25% in Brisbane, which given their low start point isn’t much to crow about.

Greenberg was on the right track with expansion state govt relations, he’d got vic govt to spend millions on a new hq for RL, got WA govt to buy big events and fund NRLWA to deliver community programs and talk up an nrl club potential, now Vlandys has undone all that good will to earn some redneck votes in the homelands, very Trump of him.

Courier Mail last Friday, Cochrane the Suns president openly stated AFL games have dominated ratings in Qld on Thursday and Friday nights.
....sorry I probably got off track on this thread

PR complaining about Vlandy not having success with Governments and power brokers...?
How about this...

How decades after Murdoch and Packer destroyed the popular appeal of a game created for the masses, Peter V’landys is putting rugby league back on top

Peter V’landys is a man with a plan to make Australia sane again. His straightforward vaccine for the financial stress and social isolation of COVID-19? The Greatest Game of All: rugby league, which, with his unapologetically bogan persona, he pronounces rugba league, a sure-fire source of amusement for smug southerners.

“An Australia without rugba league is not Australia,” declared V’landys at a press conference on March 14.

V’landys is the freshly crowned chairman of the sport’s governing body, the Australian Rugby League Commission, as well as the long-serving chief executive of Racing New South Wales. He has a twang more associated with tradies, the legacy of a working-class upbringing in Wollongong with migrant parents from the Greek island of Kythera, where his grandfather rode a donkey for a living. In Australia, his parents worked 12-hour shifts and personally skipped meals to put food on the table for three kids.

As a tribute to his blue-collar roots, V’landys dresses like a suburban justice of the peace who’s stumbled into the Supreme Court, with scuffed shoes, boot-cut trousers and untucked shirts – a subtle f**k you to the Establishment he keeps running rings around.

“The concern I have,” says the league chairman, “is more people are being affected by mental illness than by the coronavirus.”

This isn’t V’landys’s first rodeo, or, indeed, his first public-relations campaign triggered by a plague. In the dying months of John Howard’s political supremacy, the little-known racing executive sought to rescue the industry from equine influenza by seeking a $110 million bailout – he got $235 million. His style of megaphone negotiation also clinched another $42 million sweetener for Racing NSW when the Catholic Church, led by then Archbishop of Sydney George Pell, wanted to use Randwick Racecourse for Pope Benedict’s visit on World Youth Day in 2008.

“Mr Pell is a bully,” V’landys said at the time. “He’s refused any meeting with us because he realises he’s not in a position of strength, because he’s forcing his strength on someone who doesn’t want to comply.”

The wins kept coming. With Racing NSW he took gambling companies to the High Court and received an estimated billion-dollar dividend over a decade, then used the influx of money to launch an all-out war on Victoria, the superpower of Australian racing. Long story short, V’landys masterminded the richest turf horserace in the world – The Everest – to occur on the same day as Melbourne’s Caulfield Cup.

Victoria was home to “the most dreary city on Earth with the worst weather”, he complained to The Daily Telegraph, “yet NSW bows and scrapes to it all the time.”

Not anymore. The inaugural $10 million Everest race in 2017 was a smash hit, attracting 33,000 fans and more than $50 million in gambling revenue. To coronate his success, V’landys attempted to use the Sydney Opera House as a billboard to launch the second year. A public outcry was led by Nine newspaper columnist and popular historian Peter FitzSimons, prompting a petition signed by 300,000.

FitzSimons grew up on an orange orchard before boarding at Sydney’s prestigious Knox Grammar. Sitting on the lounge in his North Sydney home, with panoramic views of the dusk-lit harbour, he’s apoplectic.

“To put f**king betting ads on it?” he says, of V’landys’s plan to project promotions onto the Opera House. “That is a desecration of a work of art!”

According to V’landys, the saturation negativity from Sydney’s loud “elites” provided $25 million of free PR for The Everest, leading to a record crowd in 2018 of 40,578, with betting revenue exceeding $100 million. He declared that the Melbourne Cup – held on the first Tuesday of November for 150 years – should be rescheduled to accommodate Racing NSW.

puff piece. Hes destroyed relationships with some states at a time people on here are bemoaning the fact AFL seems to be able to get Qlnd govt to support it more and more. Instead of hating on AFL maybe we should be learning from them? His comments, which he has doubled down on, served no purpose for the benefit game and were just self serving to get home state fans to like him. What they have done is damage the relationship NRL had been nicely building in Vic, SA and WA. Hope it was worth it to feed his narcissism.
WA Govt just announced $100's million of sports infrastructure projects, RL got nothing. Nice work Vlad!

Could you ever imagine AFL being stupid enough to bag off NSW and Qland and call them a waste of time? Its dead set stupidity of the highest order and far worse than Beattie mistaking a jersey, yet Vlad gets no criticism. He is so far in bed with News Ltd he might as well be Gallop. I think everyone is in for a nasty shock when the facts about his News Ltd tv extension deal finally come out.

Your joking. What has the Afl done Gave their AFL to Brisbane. What about South Australia loyalty. Just pissed it up against the wall. Ditto WA. AFL to WA, f**k You, never going to get a Grand final even when they (fans & Gov) been asking for a long time. Absolute disgrace! Fans are furious. Talk about destroyed relationships. Puff piece you say, wrangling 42 million out of the catholic Church (don't worry they are rich) Going to High court and WINNING> More $$$ Extra Extra Extra
You just full of bile out of no NRL team for WA. As for other stuff, Now the AFL is in a fight for it's survival (Gillion McLachlan ) AFL now lumbered with hundreds of million $ in debt. Finally, the NRL got a fighter in their corner or a combination of a Ron Gibbs hitman and Arthur Beatson skills set, who is a shrewd political operator that the ex Labor Premier of QLD Beatty says is the man of the moment .

Next year will tell.
IF the format of the compeitios is what he promised on Ch9 this week then I might give him a thumbs up. If its closer to the reumours I am hearing (no canturbury cup) then he is a puppet/

I am very dubious of his reputation of cleaning up racing. How could he, the crims that run it would never let it happen, so I think its all a smoke screen

Haha you sound like the idiots who scream at SOO being taken out of NSW and Qland. AFL isnt myopic, it takes opportunity to grow its game. WA and SA dont benefit AFL by taking the GF to either, they are both "rusted" on states as Vlad likes to describe them. AFL will get some runs on the board with Qlnd Govt for taking it there. Smart move.

That's a load of crap and you should know it ,by ignoring the facts. It was Vlandys & his Apollo team who kept in touch with the State Govts of Qld/NSW and Vic and indeed NZ Govt to first of all and their medical bodies to ensure the protocols that were being set up by the NRL were the strictest around to ensure safe movement of teams around NSW and Qld,and for the Warriors to come to Oz, and for the Storm to go to the Sunshine Coast.
All this rubbish about V'Landys being arrogant was pushed by the sensation seeking media, when in fact close contact was being made with Govts.
As a result the NRL was first up on 28th May as promised and delivered and your mob the AFL took another two weeks to start, despite some of their people bagging the NRL for being early.
The state Premiers have admitted the NRL have worked in with them to ensure safe guidelines are met.It is the idiot players who have been the problem, by breaking protocols.
This at the same time he negotiated at lower revenue deals with the ch9 and Foxtel for the 20/22 seasons ,and extensions with Foxtel for the 2023-2027seasons at better than market expectations.
This at the same time organised a Line of Credit not used finally for $250m.
This at the same time V'Landys accepted the NSW Govt decision to not redo ANZ stadium, but is pushing for suburban stadium improvements..
This at the same time when Covid is over, that V'Landys openly stated on 100% Football they will be looking at Brisbane 2.
They spent money to expand in GWS and GC with large sums, and part of the problem by doing so this has assisted the AFL in looking to get a $400m loss this season.
You think this expansion is going to thrill the 20% of AFL staff that will be cut this year?

Here's an idea,do some research from far away, instead of using your blind hatred of VLandys control your thinking.

7 already said they are in no position to bid for anything until early next year at best. Signing up now as the NRL has seems logical.

All comps got back up and running, so we did it a couple of weeks earlier, you can do that when your not a national comp with the logistics that it brings. And in doing so we had a TV partner absolutely sht on the game with false fact, and Vlandys agree with them, and we lost a CEO in the process to bow down to them. Cracking result. Bu hey we were first back eh?
Guess what all codes have worked with State Govts, no biggie there.
Yep he negotiated a lower deal, and refuses to tell us what it is. First time the game has done that in 25 years. I wonder why?
Yep back flipped on the threat to move GF if ANZ not done. Hmmmm
As they should, Brisbane 2 should have been in 20 years ago. Problem is one new club brings in byes which no one wants, doesn't add any value to revenue so is goign to cost the game at a time the game has massive reduced income. If it will actually happen we shall see.
AFl has had a long term vision and strategy for a national comp, their investment in that strategy is sustainable as they have significant revenues and set up teir systems to support it. We dont even have a strategy yet alone a plan to implement it.
You think the idea of spending money on Brisbane 2 is going to thrill the multitude of staff currently getting the heave ho from NRLHQ?

I note you ignored my main issue which is Vlandys negative comments on expansion areas and the damage it has potentially done. Whats your view on that and what do you think his motivation for damaging the game in this way is?

Fin review is not a News Ltd publication.Tony Shephers is not a News exec but an AFL man(bit like yourself really).
"A News puppet", this coming from an AFL boot licker .Historically you haven't had a man crush on anyone within our code, but sure as hell provided love ins with AFL management. This coming from a gent thousands of kms away, who likes to link News sites for support when it suits his anti NRL agenda.

LOL tell me who are the competitors ATM for Pay.All the big social media outlets were canvassed.

Every code was at its weakest and still are, some even more than others ,hello Rugby union and soccer. And the AFL much to your anguish had to renegotiate lessers figures for FTA and Pay.
The NRL have in place a Pay TV deal, cerainty of income til end 2027.
They AFL are cutting back 20% staff and expecting a $400m loss.OOh but PR doesn't want to know this.

Yet Ch 7 has indicated it is interested in SOO and possibly the NRL.Regardless, this creates competitive tension.

I liked Smith and you know it :)
Who knows but I know we've never signed a 5 year TV deal without a very thorough and open tender process led by specialists, until Vlad came along.
You seem fixated how far I live away from you, very suburban of you lol

Agian i ask you your opinion on the actual issue which is Vlandys negative comments on expansion areas and the damage it has potentially done. Whats your view on that and what do you think his motivation for damaging the game in this way is?

Your first sentence shows how much of an afl fan you are .
The afl had 5 state GOVTs to deal with .
Te NRl had Three ...plus one territory govt plus one international govt .
So that is absolute bulshit what you wrote .
But doesn't surprise me ....that was the official afl line ...which as a good little fumble lover you repeat no matter how stupid it is .
