this is where if the NRL had any vision it would be atleast having talks with the SA gov
potentially look at investing in the project in return for gov funding towards a new NRL team and a good deal/hire fee for a said team to play there

100%
It'll need winter content as Adelaide United and the 36ers will be using it in the summer.

They may already have and we don’t know about it. Reason I suggest that is they’ve played the Storm roosters games here from 2017-19, now the Origin..

Vlandys did say in an interview (100% footy) he’s worked well/has a great relationship with the SA govt.. was when it wasn’t sure if origin would proceed or not..

It could very well be that an agreement to host NRL games could be advantageous to getting the project off the ground.. and if those games prove successful at the gate...

Hello Rams!!!

Adelaide is where Perth was in the early 2000's after the game was on its knees following SL. It took the WARL finding a quality CEO and some investment from Peter Cummins to lift it up off the floor and start the rebuilding process. There is no reason the same couldn't happen in SA with some better funding from NRL and some decent appointments. Getting the current couple of hundred registered players to a couple of thousand and 5 clubs to 10 should be the first goal.

It will be interesting to see how much the new league stars program gets in funding nationally to see if that exposes kids at any significant level to the game.

Peter Cumins should liaise with one of the smaller Sydney clubs about adopting Perth as a second home. Look at a team that regularly draws shit crowds and convince them that 15k at Perth is more profitable than 10k in Sydney. It would be cheaper than starting the Pirates from scratch.

The worst club last year was Dragons, who averaged just 9,813. They've played 89 games at Kogarah for an average of 12,740. 123 games at Wollongong for an average of 12,511.

With a name like 'St George Dragons' and a large English population in Perth, why not use that to their advantage?

St George could become the club for all Englishman living in Australia. Recruit heavily from the Super League and they might even pick up a fanbase in England.

6 games Perth, playing in a red jersey with a white 'v'. Gold and black socks and shorts.
6 games Wollongong, playing in a red jersey with a white 'v'.
Plenty of away games in Sydney, playing in a white jersey with a red 'v'.

Remove Illawarra from the name.

Wrong thread, if you want though we can talk about St George Dragons, playing in Adelaide, (city of churches= Saints) huh? Huh? Yes?

That could work too.

How many English expatriates live in Adelaide?

There's a few, isn't there?

With no RU it will give them something they can relate to.

Get 3 teams to relocate to Adelaide, Brisbane and Perth and the NRL will be truly national. That would give us a footprint of 6 in Sydney, 2 in Brisbane plus Adelaide, Melbourne and Perth without adding new teams. 17 and 18 could go to Brisbane 3 and NZ2.

Brisbane Tigers, owned by Easts, based out of Coorparoo and playing at QEII Stadium in Nathan to represent the south-east.

St George Dragons, based in Adelaide and playing out of that new stadium that's in the works.

Now who goes to Perth?

It cannot be Sharks as they would be the team representing Illawarra, South Coast and the St George area.

Cannot be Manly Sea Eagles.

What about getting rid of Manly and sending the Bears to Perth?

Could maybe get rid of the Donkeys by sending them to Perth and adding a new team in Brisbane. That would make everyone laugh and IBM and co cry. No more Friday night Broncos.

Following this line of thought (which i agree with btw but unfortunately can't see the NRL ever relocating 3 clubs) you could bring in the Pirates fresh and have the 3rd Sydney club be Canterbury to Christchurch

Of all the Sydney clubs, the only ones I can see being accepted in Brisbane are the Tigers and Panthers, as there are existing clubs here which share those names. I can see Canterbury working in Christchurch. But, none of these clubs will ever relocate unless they're broke and have no choice.

It's a pity the idiots from the QRL and NRL never bought Cronulla Park in Logan. It would be the perfect place for a relocated Sharks. The street leading into it is Cronulla Ct and nearby there's a Balmain Street and Parramatta Rd. Across the road from Cronulla Park is a massive Sydney Tools shop.

I understand we want the game expanded, as I would too, but not to the detriment of the traditional clubs that give the game so much.

People in Brisbane and Canberra want to see their clubs beat Sydney teams like Manly etc.

Where would the money come from once Sydney is destroyed and people can't be f#$%d with this sport anymore??

Expansion has always come at the detriment of traditional clubs!

You, and Sydney fans in general, never gave a f**k about those clubs as they silently made way for bigger and better things. You were all too focused on your big circle jerk to even notice. But as soon as it was your turn to sacrifice your traditions and clubs for the greater good, well, suddenly tradition was too important to loose.

You are utterly delusional, truly f**king loopy, if you think the sport will die as a commercial product if a few tiny failing clubs from Sydney are replaced.
Why didn't the money dry up after 'Sydney was destroyed' by Norths, Newtown, Glebe, etc, etc, being kicked? Could it be that, in fact, no one club is bigger than the sport!

BTW, stop projecting your backwards attitudes onto other people you don't even know.
The vast majority of RL fans in Canberra, and I'm willing to bet Brisbane and everywhere else, couldn't give a f**k whether or not Manly or any other club is in the NRL.
As long as their club's still kicking around and has somebody to play they'll be fine, just like they were after Newtown, Norths, etc, got the arse.
