Cleary to 9 luai to 7 burton to 6 we get to keep them all and have a great spine for yrs.Lets face it cleary is a great defender hes slower than luai and burton and he could kick out of dummy half.Melbourne showed as long as you have a good spine you can find makeshift forwards and backs that can still get you to a gf.Not sure what you would do with api short term but burton wont wanna stay to play centre or backrow his prefered position is 5/8.

I can’t understand why you would dump Api to make this happen.

Barrett knows jack all. It is doubtful he would be privy to inside knowledge once he signed with the dogs.

He'd know what he needs to. Sounds like him and Panthers have been on good terms with everything including the dogs opening speaking to the club out of good will when interested in players.

I think he was excluded from the retention committee after he had signed with the dogs.

Elsewhere the Wests Tigers are closing on Penrith Panthers fullback Daine Laurie.

Laurie played three games in season 2020 after making his NRL debut in round 13 and has one more year remaining on his development contract at the club.

The two parties are in negotiations to finalise the move but it’s believed the Wests Tigers have offered Laurie a two-year deal from season 2022.

Born and raised in Iluka on the NSW north coast, Laurie joined Penrith’s SG Ball outfit in 2017 and went on to the named the Jersey Flegg player of the year in 2018, where he scored 17 tries, made 119 tackle busts and 20 line breaks from 22 matches.

But after a resurgence from Dylan Edwards, Laurie found himself down the pecking order for the no.1 jumper at Penrith.

The 21-year old is one of 13 players off contract - without a contract option - at the end of season 2021 at the Panthers.

Penrith’s salary cap squeeze has meant the grand finalists are open to exploring a number of early releases, including for the likes of Laurie, rising halfback Matt Burton and Josh Mansour.

The Bulldogs have offered Burton a two-year deal from season 2022 believed to be worth in the vicinity of $800,000.

But new coach Barrett, who was Ivan Cleary’s assistant at Penrith, is keen to have Burton join his ranks as soon as this pre-season

Geez it’d be a real kick in the guts to lose both Burton & Laurie. Understandable if we lose one, but both would be a huge loss.

There has not been a peep from Matt Burton, and his manager, so I call bullshit on that, as I do with the others. The silence is deafening, and hopefully, we all get some much needed answers.

Guys aren't going to hang around too long as back up guys. Burton has a spot in FG but Laurie not so. Lower grades are back and with the young NSW Cup side we are going to field then plenty of chances for the next backup guy to come through

No, but Laurie has barely given it a shot here. Look at Luai who bided his time for a couple of years. It’d be nice to see Laurie give us another year to see if he can crack FG at the place that have him a shot.

I agree so very much with your comment.

Why move away to a club that's struggling, and in reality that's what the W/T are. For whatever reason Robert Jennings career went down the toilet there too. Was it Robert's lack of worth ethic and committment or was it the lack of established first grade players playing at the top of their game there.

We will never know.

If Daine is prepared to show patience like Lui did the Panthers in time may become his oyster.
