It's getting beyond a joke now where a contracted player can tell their employer they won't "ever wear the jersey again" because said club wont release them from final year of their contract. History repeating after the Ryan Matterson dramas 12 months ago?

I hope Wests Tigers dig in and hold onto him, banish him to NSW cup for the year and teach him a lesson.

Yeah WT need to make an example of someone. They're getting f**ked left, right and centre by managers lately. Cop the cap hit and make him an overpaid water boy, his job to clean the sheds, put shit out for training and pack it up. Can always quit if he doesn't like it. Do Manly still value him as highly in the 2022 market after a season out of first grade?

You can't actually do these things, it would be seen as constructive dismissal (ie forcing someone out without actually sacking them), but you don't have to pick him in first grade. The trouble is, having a disgruntled player around the place can have all sorts of detrimental effects on the playing group. In this way, players and managers hold the whip hand.

Yeah I get that. It was an exaggerated example. Basically treat him as shit as contractually possible. If he becomes detrimental to the environment send him home. It'll be painful but WT can't keep being treated like this.

The question is, what do Manly see in him? Honest toiler but not someone who strikes fear in to the opposition or will win you a game.

The NRL should just step in and state that if a player is contracted and demands to be released, the club can apply for cap dispensation, f**k that player off from the squad, and the NRL will not register any competing contracts for the duration.

So yes the WT would still have to keep paying this fool, but they'd not lose a spot on their squad in order to do so and could simply bar him from training.

I can't imagine he'd have much luck suing over it given he'd still be getting paid his full freight to sit on his ass at home.

I agree, it is up to the NRL to step in and show some leadership and set rules around this.

Breaking of contracts willy nilly is a blight on the game.

Does anyone think he is worth the rumored 600K manly are offering?

I am a Tigers fan and think the 450K we have apparently offered is to much! his current contract of 350K seems about right for a average run of the mill prop.

In saying that we need to hold him to his contract, we missed out on Stef and JAC being release but have bent over to release our players.

Yeah, but this comment kind of gives the Green light for any player is justified to quit on a club because it's not a winner or they want a pay raise. This is about money and frankly the club is a 'basket case' excuse is not cutting it particularly when it takes the onus off the players to lift the club out of their position.
