I wonder who is going to lay claim to the new Aerotropolis? It's technically part of Liverpool CC, so maybe the Wests Tigers?
There will be a whiz-bang stadium built out there for sure.

Paying some overpaid consultants $1mill to come up with another stadium strategy report that says what we all know. Go to love prudent use of tax payers money! Sounds like a good strategy to delay any stadium spending for a few more years.

So with no commitment to funding will Vlandys now backflip and put the GF on the open market?
he has to stop threatening to do it , & just do it if there is no agreement.

Threats are meaningless unless you back them up.

The NRL should have taken the GF on the road the first time the NSW government backflipped on them, not let them dick them around for years.

So, Kogarah, then Liverpool, then Brookvale, then Penrith.

Kogarah hosts 5/6 games and has had more updates in the last 20 years of the suburban stadiums. Why is it first? Is it simply politics? Makes no sense and no way a business case will stack up unless Sharks play there (they won’t).

So, if they are new 20k stadiums and one at a time, it could be this.
Kogarah 2022-24
Liverpool 2024-26
Brooks 2026-28
Penrith 2028-30.

There won’t be any clubs based at Homebush after 2026. Just finals, SOO and maybe a couple of big games. They might even sell it off. The proposed centralised (AFL) model will end up being totally decentralised. If they skipped Kogarah and got everything else done two years earlier, that would be the perfect result.
Parra - Parra
Liverpool - Dogs, Tigers
Brooky - Manly
SFS - Easts, Souths, Dragons (5)
Sharks @ Sharks
Penrith @ Penrith

Sell off ANZ and the GF goes to the highest bidder Super Bowl style each year.

I love all of that and it makes a lot of sense what you say about skipping Kogarah. But wouldn't NSW want to keep ANZ open, beacuse without it they have no major events venue (new SFS is slightly too small).

True. Perhaps the upkeep won’t be worth it for the two RL games, and occasional soccer match that would draw over 45k. SFS will be able to take over 60k for concerts.

It kind of makes you think that the new SFS should be the 80k big events stadium with club mode available for regular Roosters, Waratahs and Sydney FC matches.

With an 80k SFS including a club mode, the NRL could do some nifty things like double-headers, a magic weekend, Origin games in Sydney with awesome views for a huge crowd.. and also have a great home ground for Roosters, Rabbitohs, Dragons & any other Sydney club hosting a blockbuster game that's too big for their own stadium to accomodate. it really does smack of a huge opportunity missed, sadly..

RL will not revert back to GF & SOO crowds of 42K in the largest rectangle venue in Sydney / NSW outside of homebush that being the new SFS

homebush will get an upgrade , or pullout down rebuild at some point in the next decade with a world class 72 to 75K seat rectangle venue.
til then the present venue will continue to operate at 84K , hosting the womens world cup soccer final in 2023 , the RWC final in 2027 & with a suitable stadium policy ,, every NRL GF & NSW SOO there.

the SCG sat there for 20 years from 1967 to 1987 & it held barely any club games , only Tests , finals .. SOO's & GF's & ANZ stadium will be the same.

they couldn't fit a 65K venue at the present site for the SFS , what makes you think they can do an 80K venue. The only alternative is homebush , or somewhere else near the CBD.

I rekon they should have built the new sfs to 60k.
Personally i don't think its needed at all, it will never get to be used at capacity, only maybe the wallabies will get to use it for close to capacity, no one else, Sydney FC maybe, if theres like a exhibition against an EPL team, but then you'd go to homebush, roosters won't fill it, best theyll do is about a third on average, waste of money really, only time it'll get used properly is for NRL finals, if a sydney team opts to play there instead of ANZ, but logistically useless stadium, built in the CBD where no one cares for, seriously whats wrong with the SCG for chooks home games, and Souths won't play at the new SFS so why bother?

It makes sense if this was a one club town, like Melbourne, or Cowboys, Canberra etc, but we got 9 in Sydney, that money should have built liverpool or the new proposed upgrades instead, building stadiums in areas people actually live. Not the CBD.
It'll look so empty every game, maybe worse than a homebush game
